If you’re looking S/H, then I can recommend a cannondale prophet (best get an MX if you can as it’s designed for the longer forks)

I have sunline V1s (710mm) which I really like. I may get some V1 flat bars for my hardtail when I get round to building it – they’re doing them at All terrain for £40.

maybe the bolts rivets fixing the steel rotor to the alloy carrier have worn the carrier a bit? One of my riding mates has the same issue and you can hear them rattle as he rides along.

I think the taped seams thing is to do with silicone elastomer coatings. You can’t adhere tape to these, so the fabrics which have this on the inside can’t be taped and you need to periodically seam seal them with sealant. I have a 10 year (ish) old Ultra Voyager which has a version of their watershed fabric which has PU inside and silicone elastomer outside. The seams are taped. Assuming the design hasn’t changed much over the years, it’s a fantastic little tent, but there isn’t a huge amount of room for two people with kit, especially in poor weather.

I just used the Lumicycle spring sale and got myself some LED system 4s for £160 with the 2.6ah battery and fast charger. “Only” 1100 lumens, but still looking forward to a massive boost to night riding speed after a few years with Hope 2 LED mk1s.

I’m using some new Hemisphere armadillos having had an old set that only got one puncture per tyre in a 9000km tour – and never punctured again in this country. I do know what mrcamel means about dead feeling, though, and they are heavy.

I took these (not so good, but I’m still quite pleased with my efforts):

I had a pretty good day marshalling on the nice left hand corner 3/4s of the way down. It was pretty cold and damp being stood there for 7 hours, though! It sounds like it was a great success, though, which is what it’s all about.

Cheers ben, they’re with Hop, so i’m seeing what they can do while they have them, but it looks easy enough should that not work out.

Got mine a day or two ago – Shimano ones. My front brake’s pretty low now, so I’ll fit them and see how they survive a bit of peak district grit bashing.

    All sounds good.

PP, they just seem to tick all the right boxes regarding power / burn times / cost. I’ve looked through all the available options and I can’t find anything else that does what I need it to for less than £200. If anyone has other suggestions, I’d be glad to hear about them.

Good to hear – have they been reliable so far?

same as ir-bandito here too – got some for my SLX brakes winging there way to me shortly.

I can’t believe the Bfe hasn’t been mentioned – it looks to be one of the most versatile frames out there at the moment.

I liked them. They’re not really toothy, but are still surprisingly grippy. I ran one year round on the rear in the Peak. I would try and get an EXO version if they do one as I found the side walls didn’t last as long as I’d hoped in the rocky stuff. As for tubeless, I can’t comment on ghetto specifically, but Maxxis generally work very well with sealant. I’m currently running advantages on stans rims with absolutely no issues.

Tiger – tried that and it always fails and says to try again later. I’ve been trawling forums about this for the last couple of weeks.

Thanks, I’ll give K9 a go. Does K9 also sync with the hotmail calendar?

As has been said above, I can get emails through but it’s not properly syncing these or my contacts.

I used to. I still think it was the best riding top I’ve used. After about 3 years of use, it got trashed in an altercation with a barbed wire fence. I replaced it with a Gore NTS jacket, which is far less breathable, and doesn’t really seem to offer any more protection. My next riding top will definitely be another vapor rise.

A practice I used to work for did a similar thing, but it was pretty generous really. They changed from 20 days annual leave a year plus a free christmas shut down to giving 25 days annual leave, with the christmas shut down included within that figure.

However, everywhere I’ve worked since has had 22 days annual leave with the Christmas shut down included.

The BBB rollerboys look like they have better bushings / bearings than the SRAM replacements. Does anyone know if they’ll fit the 2009 mech?

2009 mech (well at least it’s from a 2009 Cannondale Prophet).

It’s not the post that’s a problem for me. My order of in stock items placed on Tuesday at 8.20am is still showing as processing. The stuff I orderd at the same time from On-One arrived yesterday. I wish they’d just get it in the post in the first place.

after doing a 9000km tour on a £300 Kona Smoke (with a few upgrades admittedly) , I reckon any steel framed mtb with rack mounts would be perfectly capable.

Maxxis Advantage 2.25 F & R at the moment, and they’ll stay until they wear out as they cope fine with most stuff.

They’re both great rims. I run crests on my Prophet, they’re a lot lighter and narrower than flows. The effective internal width is only 1-2mm narrower than flows, though, so they give a good shape to big tyres. they’re not noticeably less stiff than my previous DT 5.1s or Mavic 321s and the tyre profile is pretty much identical. I think they’re also easier to run tubeless with just yellow tape than Flows, but I may be wrong. They were certainly easy enough with maxxis tyres.

I’m a big fan of specialized hemisphere armadillo tyres. They’re quite heavy, but they really are fit and forget in terms of punctures, which is really important for commuting IMHO. My last pair had two punctures in the 3 years I used them and that included a 9000km tour. I’ve just bought another pair for general getting around / commuting / fitness riding duties. £40 a pair including tubes from dales cycles.

    bit narrow aren’t they?
