Asda do something called soya nuts – lovely, high protein and lowish fat. Great with beer.

Cheers all and yes project, it was the Maelor and their shiny new critical care unit(s).

Alas, no morphine. Which was a shame.

Twice in two days I’ve had to stop the horror.

Fish finger sandwich; saucing in order of acceptability: tatare sauce, salad cream (Heinz) and mayo (Hellmans).

I also have extensive and authoritative views on the use and consumption of chilli and hot sauces the scope of which, I suggest, is outside the ambit of this thread.

I’m sorry, I can’t let the fish finger butty saucing issue go…

Brown sauce, ketchup, are you all raving mad? Tartare sauce or, indeed, salad cream, bit of tomato, and cheese. Obviously.

    Sheesh

It’s not such a difficult thing to do yourself really. Like all challenges, set yourself an achievable first goal – start with the crown race.

Learn how to do it yourself, and do it for your mates for biscuits!

If your calorie intake remains constant and you add exercise, even one which consumes 300 cal/hr you will lose weight. IRC 1lb of fat is the equivalent of 3,500 calories i.e. 12 hrs of 300 cal/hr exercise will see you lose 1lb – 2 hrs with the dog 6 times a week should do it!

A Big Mac and fries is about 700 calories, or a couple of walks. I say: cut out the burger and let the dog get fat.

IMO high intensity stuff tends to work better for me when I need to lose weight (w/ sensible calorie intake reduction) than the received wisdom of the low impact ‘fat burning zone’type exercise.

Reba 100-115mm on mine, feels best at 115mm IMO. Juicy 3s here, which I’ve had for 4 years (and not bled) and work just fine. Carbon Easton bars and 70mm stem; SLX drivetrain.

    Top, top bike.

    ^ Oh Dear…

    5’5″ and ~10.5 stone.

As for being 55kg above – I used to weightlift in the 56kg category (when there was one) as a 19year old…strong, but a rubbish cyclist!

Over a couple of months our food bill, 2 adults, 2 boys (7&9) averages out at around £100 per week inc. wine and beer and household consumerables. I do all the shopping and the majority of the cooking and make all meals from scratch – except fish fingers and the odd pie for the boys! Shopping at Aldi has saved me a packet – I estimate around £30 p/w when compared to Tesco and probably £20 to Asda.

On the free range chicken thing – I will always buy free range chicken, not necessarily for the taste (although I do think the meat looks and tastes nicer) but I can’t bear the thought of battery farmed chicken. I’ve some concerns over pork too, in this respect…

    My new Uncle John:

Came in at around £1k plus a pair of Model Bs with road tyres. Been training on the road, around Llandegla, just a great all rounder.

I’ve owned a Ducati and a T595 (the older version of the 955i). Ducatis are more expensive to service, but given it’s only for weekend fun, you might not be notching up the miles. The key with all Ducatis is ensure the services are up to date (esp. the belts, as mentioned above)and personally I’d walk away from a bike not serviced by a Ducati dealership.

Both have great engines, bags or torque. To my ear the Ducati sounds nicer. Ducatis also tend to be a lot lower.

26 eh; 1989 for me. After a fun time in the City during the 80's – remember Big Bang? – I jacked it all in and went travelling for a couple of years. Was skint for years afterwards, but definitely the best thing I've ever done. Don't hesitate; jump.

Surprised no-one has mentioned the Mazda Bongo.

We've had ours 8 months now and had it converted professionally (fridge, rock and roll bed, cooker sink etc.) but used it in its unconverted format beforehand. V6 petrol, does about 24mpg, cruises easily at 70-80 mph and drives just like a (big) car. Great, practical vehicles and quite a bit cheaper than the VW range. Forum and more info here
