    @dovebiker & @wwaswas – looks like I’ve gone the Irish route then.

    Guess I’ll get the cranks and then hope the BB is correct, no doubt I’ll be back on here in a week or two trying to figure out how to gauge chainline correctness – thanks for the heads up though, I’d have probably just fitted it thinking a like for like swap is what was required.

    @bez – nice! and a black option too – I like it

    @thomthumb the rear hub is 135mm

    @tthew haha – aye. It always ends up that way once I get invested in upgrades

    I don’t mind running it with a spacer kit, I have one from an old inbred ss build. Any off the shelf roadie wheels going to be up to the task? – not investigated getting one built as it sounds expensive…

    Was going for 11 speed. Had heard the SRAM cassette was better, would need to also change my hope free hub tho so will need to factor that in. Also wasn’t sure about the XT brakes but upgrading the shifters is news to me but seems to be a common theme. It’s a winter build project anyway so guess I’ll just keep an eye out for some bargains on the forums.

    What’s the compromise there? Is it just a weight penalty? My thoughts were that maybe some of the components in he XT group were weak and should be swapped out for better??

    Subjective for sure, I read about some people having chain line troubles with the bike on a 1xX configuration making me wonder if it was better suited to 2/3xX? I like the idea (less faff) of 1×11, especially coming from SS which I like for it’s simplicity. As to what/how I ride (apart from badly) I’m not really sure as I’m just finding my feet.
