Trampolines are great too, a fraction of the cost and take a fraction of the time to build, just keep the drunken adults off!

We got a monstrosity from Wickey, two towers, a wobbly bridge, rope ladders, two swings, slide, firemans pole etc. Have to say it was quite an effort to build, but my boys are on it loads. We put a border around it and used rubber chips underneath. Sometimes I hang my punchbag from the swings and I will be putting some gymnastics rings up there too, the swings are probably used more than anything. Luckily I have a big garden, so it isn’t too obtrusive and it looks nice anyway.

Not sure I would buy the same make again, it is great now built, but it wasn’t easy. We expected a giant airfix model ready to go, but you have to measure, mark and drill almost every bit of wood!

Always swap mine to stealth front and rear, just leave a 6mm in the boot somewhere. No worrying about lever position, lighter, looks better, seems more secure too.

I loved the original in the nineties, but after watching the admittedly bad remake I watched the original again… some great scenes, but actually very bad.

    Those Clarks look ideal!

I love the MBR at Coed y Brenin, but I sort of see what you mean about rocky for rocks sake. That said, I’m sure it has always been a bit of a rockfest, I used to pinch flat all the time before tubeless!

The grips on the bike were way bigger than what I used myself, swapped for raceface half nelsons. Deore is looking favourite so far.

Hopes would be nice, but unfortunately way over budget.

Thanks everyone, some great info there, I will probably get the bike in time for the bank holiday and see what juniors legs are made of with some local stuff.

That bungee cord looks a great idea, just when I think my two bikes are safe from upgraditus for a while I have another to worry about.

    Some great ideas there folks!

That towwhee looks fantastic, I can see that coming in very handy!

By freak chance most of my UK holidays end up being very close to trail centres, Solway coast, North Wales etc.

Swinley is a good shout, I don’t want to push him too hard to start with, luckily there are some fun local trails to test him out on.

Think they all had a chunk missing and used five ten sponge technology!

Interested in the chopper weight! Those grifter grips were horrific if I remember correctly, the saddles were legendary!

My wife has a 13 inch hardrock which has hardly been used and may well be called to duty at some point. My boy is 127cm tall at seven and a half, so I am currently almost decided on a Voodoo Bakka 24 with a few mods. His younger brother is just turning three, so still on the balance bike, but will inherit the mx16.

I had the Uni seat post/saddle combo, later swapped for a layback as I got bigger. Most of what I had was on the heavy side though.

    Pleased sillyoldman, difinitely pleased!

In that case what did the grifter weigh? Or the Chopper? That must have been horrific!

Mine was a bit of a mash up, chrome burner frame, Acorn wheels, T bars, but I’m only looks at a rough figure. Pretty damn heavy for a small child anyway, makes me less concerned about the bikes I have been considering for junior.

Woburn sands should be pretty much plus perfect at the moment, full suss for the rocks.

That is the thing woody, once a little older they can upgrade, but his current bike has the potential to kill him off road.

Blast does look alright, especially for the money. It is a bit of a gamble really spending out if they don’t take to riding much.

Looks like the Bakka is more his size.

Have to agree with everything you said there weeksy, but still too much to spend at the moment.

Voodoo looks pretty good, especially with a few mods.

That Whyte looks amazing, sadly way over budget.

He is tall for his age, but not sure how tall exactly, better sort the facts really. Is there anything off the shelf that doesn’t cost the earth? Off to google the Whyte.

Currently have a Ranger on the back, may just leave as is and actually ride the bike!

Mostly to be used on sandy rooty soil, so should be ok, already have a 3.0 Nic on the front. What are the sidewalls like on the Rekon?

A quick google says you are correct chief, an also quick and not neccessarily accurate search suggests women will likely be more comfortable with shorter reach due to weight distribution and lesser upper body strength.

    Bagstard

We are all different, I’m all legs with a short body, so really long reach isn’t needed for me. Most women also have comparatively long legs and shorter torso.

It does seem at odds to me that the best in the world is happy with a 435mm reach and the smaller tester is finding 450mm too short!

Is that Gorilla or gaffer tape? Don’t think gaffer tape is waterproof?!

The voodoo Bizango is a great bike for what you describe and more, better bang for buck than the rockhopper etc. For my money I would  go with that Bokor posted above.

Think I will just stick to longnecks.
