Pretty sure I used a new hose, but not 100 percent. It’s not drastic, just enough for a bit of a howl which may or may not clear with enough descending, I’m using genuine shimano, but did use Halfords in the old caliper.

Longslade was running amazingly last night, bone dry.

Weeksy, that comment was aimed at molgrips father daughter dialogue. Some of the upgrades were purely my own doing, things I had that would improve things, like dropping 350g off bars and stem and proper grips, the ones that came on the bike were too big for my hands, never mind his. He didn’t have the hand strength to properly stop, hence hydraulics.

He has a quick release, but not the strength in his hands to quickly or easily use it.

geex, things are very different to when I was that age, the number of cars around being pretty significant If my son was playing with mates it wouldn’t matter, but trying to do a trail ride with Dad (because he wants to) is a different matter.

    Maybe girls are different?!

    More toys and gadgets son?
Yes please Dad, the more the merrier!

Thanks weeksy, a very useful answer, I will wait and see how he gets on and will leave my own seat position compromised to even the playing field, until he starts beating me anyway.

That is the main question, is there a suitable dropper on the market? Fair enough to compromise on mild ups and downs, but a biggish climb needs good saddle height, especially given how heavy kids bikes are compared to their body weight! There is at least one Dad on here who’s son is the same age and races XC, so how are they dealing with it?

For a short ride I would agree that somewhere in between works fine, but to progress from that and get up bigger hills it is far from ideal. Maybe I should look for flatter trails to ride?!

Have you considered a Sonder transmitter? I looked at the Roscoe myself, but was put off by the strange rear spacing (141 rather than 148 boost) and it is rear QR not bolt through. Also the fork is very basic. At your height I would go XL.

It shouldn’t be an issue on my new rims, but the love mud’s are known to be difficult! It didn’t help I used gorrilla tape instead of stans.

you could only move the tyre about a mm, not enough room to fit the tip of a tyre lever! Job done now, it took three people and two roundish screw drivers, plus two tyre levers. Put the same tyre and insert onto my new stans Baron rim in under a minute.

I’m very interested in this too, the main concern is my son not being heavy enough to compress the post.He can probably get away with 125mm drop in his Voodoo Bakka 24.

It’s been three and a half years since I built my home gym, the only idiot in there is me! No wobbly dumbells from being dropped, no shouting or swearing and I can fart as much as I like!

Seiko also have pretty much the best lume going, but some of their rubber straps are terrible!

Good call on the strap, fine over a dive suit, but terrible on the skin.

I like the Mark & sons watch  on a rubber strap, but it is very big.

I’m also looking at 300m+ depth rating for absolutely no other reason than I want one, I rarely dive anymore and certainly not deep anymore, but we want what we want!

    I already own

and a vintage Citizen promaster auto.

Not keen on metal bracelets except on dress watches, I like the integrated look of the strap on the two I have chosen and they look comfortable, unlike my Seiko.

Only used the Dakine, but I find them very comfortable and they very rarely slip.

If you are using uplift the heat wont be too bad in Finale and it’s fantastic swimming in the sea after a days riding, plenty of gelatto too!

How does a 650b 2.4 Trail Boss size up? Thinking of pairing it with a 2.3 Magic Mary.

Sonder transmitter on cycle plus, love the bike, although I had to pay £120 admin fee on top.

I have maxle stealth, hardlite and mt zoom, all do the job, look better and weigh less.

So ignoring the actual maths, when I remove the offset bushes reach should increase slightly, then decrease again when I add the angleset?! max of a 5mm spacer under the stem, so body position on the bike should be very similar?!

I’m very pleased with my Rhythm, 95 percent of the time as good as pikes. The price has gone up so ride them and then decide, doubt you would lose any money if you decide to sell.

I have rythm’s on my Sonder transmitter, very impresed, especially at the price I paid. Not noticed any flex issues, but they are only 130mm travel, I would certainly buy them again. They haven’t been used on rocky trails, only rooty woodland, but whilst riding them I haven’t given them a second thought, they just do their job quietly, not divey, not harsh, not spikey, feel similar to my pikes and x-fusion slides.

Depends on your criteria and budget? For me I always want a large platform, low profile and not too heavy, I have Raceface Atlas and Specialized Boomslang, previously Spank spike. Smaller platform, slightly thicker and a fraction of the price Electron copies from ebay for £12.99.

Brand X ascend XL with Raceface turbine 1x lever, works nicer than my latest version reverb with 1x lever.

Some effective looking trail tools there, the Irish slasher looks great, but a little too deadly. Chemicals are out of the question as not very good for the cows. For that money the folding sickle looks worth having and easy to conceal. Did a bit of stomping yesterday, works pretty well.

I was thinking some nice blades protruding from my hubs would be a nice lazy method, but I would probably end up cutting off my own leg.
