I have singletrack and humvee 3/4 lengths, both are pretty good, but quite warm/heavy so good when it's cooler. The Humvee's are pretty rubbish if it rains though!

Just bought a pair of Fox attack 09's from Stif for £50 and they are very light, quick drying and comfortable. The liner is removable, but only comes down to mid thigh, which I prefer for summer. They are dry as soon as the washing machine finishes it's spin cycle. The only down side is there are only a couple of pockets.

Sorry I don't have any pics at the moment, but may be able to get some this evening. It is in good working order (still currently on my bike, but coming off tonight.)and will look just like the ones on crc.

The superstar one looks ok, just an e13 copy. I have an E13 LG1 minus the taco if you are interested? It weighs half that of the Superstar and is designed for use with a 34 or 36t ring. I'm looking for £40 posted. Oh it is white.

I ride an Alpine with Lyriks, but very rarely use them at full travel. If you have u-turns there is no reason why you can't run them at 140mm or 150mm. Unless you are pointing downhill the handling gets worse the longer your forks get.

Thanks khani, I will get in touch with them, although there isn't actually
that much play.. better check the saddle first!

Khani, I did remove and clean all the seating assembly, but still it creaked. I will try another saddle and see what happens.

I have followed the instructions for maintainance, but still creaking. Unfortunately there is nothing on the website for creaking like a bagstard! I guess I will give them a call, but was wondering if anyone else had had the same problem?

Bump! Come on guys, this is STW, somebody always knows the answer! The creaking is driving me mad!

Thanks for your efforts davy-g, but my MG1's have sealed bearings and although similar at a glance very different to work with.

The dust cap can be removed easily and I guess I could just squirt some grease through, but for a proper bearing change how the flip do you get the nut off?

I'm currently using fox attack 09 which I got from stif for £50. very cool and lightweight with a comfortable liner.

I'm not going either, baby will be arriving in November and my finances need to be as healthy as possible, so it's goodbye to my DH bike come September. :0(

I have had Domain coils and totem solo air's and for general mucking about they don't feel a worl apart, but on a long tech downhill the totems were much better damped and a lump lighter too. They feel very much like a coil fork.

My totems were reliable for the time I used them, although they did leak a little oil from the lowers after a day of DH with fair sized jumps, ie the Cwmcarn hip.

Jedi – for messing about at Woburn or Herts the Domains are still pretty good.

I was talking to someone who had been there recently and they pronounced it Kilitree!!!

Chances of me spending time in tea shops is ver high and I don't want to offend anyone.

If you are looking to lose weight stay away from creatine. Your muscles fill up with water and you will carry extra weight. It goes on easier than it comes off.

Nicer, but not always as convenient.

I use whey protein to help with my weight training, it is just a convenient way of getting low fat, high quality protein, nothing more.

In the past I have used creatine, but never really noticed much in the way of gains, maybe slightly improved recovery. A major downside is you can put on around five pounds of weight as your muscles fill up with water and you will lose definition.

DMR revolver hubs not great, the freehub's are made of cheese, but they are cheap.

Should he be wearing tweed on his bike then?

Thanks for 'most' of your replies. The plan is to drive up very early from the shire and get an afternoon/early evening of riding, then two full days and do Cannock chase on the way home. Inners is tempting as I have done the DH there many times, but I want to keep driving to a minimum.

Kirroughtree is a definite, as is Dalbeattie. After reading recent posts about Drumlanrig I am tempted to try it out. Ae forest XC loop didn't overly impress me, but I was completely overbiked, so it was an awful lot of effort.

I'm running ghetto tubeless on my hardtail and very pleased with the results. One puncture in eight months, repaired without even taking the wheel off.

Perhaps on full suss it isn't noticable, but with large volume tyres I can definitely feel the extra cushioning from my tubless rear tyre. I'm running 719 rims with Bonty big earl wets. Rider weight 15 stone with kit, camelbak.

Oh bugger! They do make riding and camping much less fun. Oh well, I guess I will have to MTFU and cover myself in deet etc.

I would say ten miles is a nice distance, I'm currently doing 27 miles a day, which takes around 53 minutes each way on an MTB. It is definitely tougher as the weather gets worse though. At the begining of the year I did twice a week, then three times and for the past five weeks I have done everyday, but will drop back to three when the weather worsens.

On topic – love my gravity dropper multi with remote, but as someone mentioned it can be tricky finding slight drops, but full drop is easy.

Back on arguement – I cannot ride anything technical with the saddle up my **** , whereas one of my riding friends can. I'm sure your body geommetry has something to do with it. I am 5'11" with long legs, long arms (I think) and short torso and everyone comments on my long seatpost.
My friensd is almost 6'2" and I find his saddle height about right for me, yet he is three inches taller. Anyway I'm loving my gravity dropper
    and wouldn't go back.

Very nice bike, the blue goes well with the white rims. I have an alpine and run 34 x 34 which covers for most things pretty well. Mine has u-turn lyriks on the front which are usually set at 130mm for XC, 145mm for messing about round Woburn freeride area or similar. They would only get the full 160mm for pure DH. Enjoy your lovely new bike, it looks a lot of fun.

I can heartily recommend the Dialled Alpine, I have ridden a few hardtails for DH and having a slightly more giving frame is definitely more comfortable. Personally I would only want steel or ti for this type of bike.

Mine runs Lyrik u-turns and is used for going up, down and along.

For the minimal weight difference I would stick to the coil and pay out for the light spring. Plusher (IMO) and less to go wrong.

What make of forks are you planning to run? I had a Hoss for a little while and ran it with 04 Marzocchi Z1 freerides which were 130mm travel, but a pretty tall fork. A set of pikes would have had a lower axle to crown measurement and probably ride ok, but 150mm zocchi's will be awful.

I got my first tubeless puncture last week and fixed it with a tubeless repair kit. No need to even take the wheel off!

Dual ply may be expensive if only used on holiday, but surely being able to enjoy your time riding rather than constantly fixing punctures is worth it? You can always use them next year too! And the next…
