I’m pretty new to riding singlespeed and was surprised what a faff it was to get one gear working properly. After having done all that I’ve decided to get a Bizango on the cycle2work scheme, so I will have to go through it all again. Does the built in chain tensioner work well? It is hard to see how the adjustable dropouts work from pictures on tinternet.

It is fun to ride different bikes, my Orange Blood is vastly different to my 29er singlespeed (both heavy mind.)At this time of year it is nice to not worry about your drivetrain being destroyed!

I did the qualifier in 2008, but the main race was a bit of a washout and most people gave it a miss after freezing for so long.I would love to go again, but not on a DH bike this time, it brings out the racer in everyone and it’s great riding.

I’ve always used Rogues or similar in the past, but after trying ESI grips I wouldn’t want anything else.

I would counter that the YT isn’t heavy and certainly doesn’t ride heavy. It is a very taught, poppy feeling bike, climbs really well and descends even better, also the spec is amazing value.

I’ve ridden a YT 170 and it only feels like 170mm when you need it. With BOS shocks front and rear it doesn’t give up the travel easily.

I would say a good amount of posts are requests for imformation, so if you don’t want to know the answer…

My inbred 29er looks like a tractor, so the agricultural Gravity Dropper matches it well!

Thanks all, looks like it will be a no for the fat monkey then.

It is more of a height, than a width issue, I wouldn’t have thought the wide rim would make it taller?!

    Chakaping, thanks mate.

It is a nimbus Dominator from when I ran rigids. The Bonty tyre is flipping huge!

I thought single speed would be a nice easy fix! This is the longest most drawn out bike project of the many I have done!

****! Just took out a link and it is now so short you can’t get the wheel straight, definitely needs a half link.

Well it didn’t survive the works car park test without slipping a bit, I may have to try and put a 19t on the back for tonights ride.

It is a bargain build, using mostly bits and bobs found in the shed. The current chain tugs are from my old dirt jump bike(Azonic steelhead.)Maybe some On-one chain tugs are the way to go?!

Pretty much as jimfran says, if I take a link out it will be too short, but as it is it is fractionally too long. Not a new chain, but not far from it. Running a 32t hope chainring with an 18t sprocket on the back.

Maybe I’m mistaken calling it slot drop, it has horizontal drop outs and a mech hanger.

I would say my chain is tighter than the video, my bike does have chain tugs on, but they are only just engaging.

I purposely chose a stem with a very rounded profile for that reason!

I just used gorilla tape and an old valve, less messy if you end up with a puncture.

Maybe that is my problem Ben?! This is a budget build trying to use as much as possible from the shed, hence 185 rather than 160mm.

Thanks Brant, it is the correct mount for the rotor, but maybe there is something odd with the tektro caliper?!I will see what happens with the 180mm.

Duh, just realised I have a sram DH cassette which is pretty much all seperates, that should be enough to keep me going. 32-18 sounds like a good starting point then.

Must admit I’m really impressed by the ESI chunky grips I put on for yesterdays ride, trail buzz was much reduced compared to the Renthals I had been using.

Pretty happy with my saints, nice big platform and lowish profile, they have taken a few good smacks too. Previous pedals were nanos which seemed comparable for grip.

Whilst I like the look of my Renthal stem and it matches my bars and chainring I wouldn’t buy it again. It can get a little creaky after a while and has to be taken apart, cleaned and covered in anti seize, my previous Hope didn’t have this issue.

Well done Mark, you only need to keep it for six more days to hold true to our pact! I’m still loving my Blood. :-)

My wife had a buyer lined up before we got married! The money she got back paid for our safari on the masai mara, we wouldn’t have the space to store it anyway.

Climbed that many a time as a youngster, my gran lived in view of it.
Always wondered if there was much riding there?!

I hope so, I will be staying in view of it for a week, so it would seem wrong not to climb/ride it.
