It is a pefect venue for jumps and drops and Tom has a good reputation. I’m doing a skills course and guided ride at Forest of Dean this weekend.

I was looking at doing the same recently, but my googling didn’t come up with any upcoming courses, clearly I wasn’t very thorough.

Someone posted about it yesterday, have a quick search.

There are other videos of the same guys crashing on jumps at Chicksands, I would hope the legal action rumour was BS, it would be seriously taking the P!Given that the rider ended up in an ambulance it seems likely the site location was compromised. That said, after reading on the Surrey hills thread that forum chat is monitered I feel pretty stupid for linking to youtube.

No bands in mine at fifteen stone, 30% sag and it’s spot on.

Can’t really answer your questions, but I can highly recommend the edit, very confidence inspiring and very quiet. The length of it makes it a comfortable place to be on climbs and keeps the front wheel down. Bird are also great and the Aeris was my other option, but as I was only buying frame and shock there would be issues with boost.

Can’t comment on the 4.2, but I had the 4 and it was a great bike, just a little short for me.

Licensed to ill for me, must have been 1987, still play it on occasion.

It is a lovely flowing trail with great berms and plenty of speed, but they are built in the style of do or die. Even though you know you will overshoot them, the look of them can mess with your head.

Be sure to ride Hotstepper and popty ping, great fun!

Did the old cable tie down the seals trick on both sides and got my missing travel back.

Found it! Nicely built, flows well, but bottled the last couple.

Mine suck down about 9mm too, but I have included the lost 9mm when setting sag and they ride really well. Since they ride higher in the travel now it ia a non issue, not noticed any noise though.

Didn’t manage to get out yesterday, but I am going this afternoon. Usually I ride the waymarked trails and back woods, so I’m not that familiar with the Bob’s drop area, but I have had a good scan on Strava
and it’s an excuse to explore anyway.

Thanks hammerite, I will have a search tomorrow.

Asgard for me, you need an angle grinder to have a chance getting in which will make a hell of a noise, then you have to get through any locks and chains inside. Much more peace of mind than a wooden shed or garage.

At 95kg I am running 100psi in a 160mm Yari with no tokens and it feels great. I would experiment with a little more air before reaching for tokens.

    Will do, thanks Paul.

Are you positive? I tried a mt zoom 100×15 and it didn’t seem to fit.

Can someone give me a clearer direction to flight path please, by pm if need be. I’m familiar with the Longslade trail and most trails around the golf course.Ta.

It is cornering I really want to focus on, so BPW is great for that. I agree that transferring the learning to other trails is the hard part. I’m fairly confident on jumps and drops and if I improve my cornering skills jumps and drops will often be easier as I should find it easier to carry speed.

Thank you both for the in depth replies, I particulatly like the idea of half day coaching and practice, I just switch off after too long.

    Chicksands isn’t far from me.

I knew that was coming David, I meant my limits not the bikes. I would think driving a car on a track day would be a closer analogy.

The theory of driving and riding may be similar, but no way would I drive my car on the limit like I do my bike. My car tyres never get tested like my bike tyres do.

Chick sands is a good shout, but it is the lower less supportive berms that give the most trouble. As many have said, I know the theory, just need to take time to practice without peer pressure.

Rob Hilton, in a car no, I really don’t see the two as comparable in any way. The trails yesterday were full of dust and gravel, don’t think the rock razor helped much.

My issues are worse when riding in a group, it is a mad dash to catch the rider in front and lose the rider behind you. These days I don’t get the opportunity to practice much, so I guess time on the bike is an issue.

P-jay, been there, only noticed after fitting them to the bike!

For the record I have been on more than one skills course, where you practice the same few turns and get used to the required speed and grip levels, then you ride a long unfamiliar trail and are all over the place.

Well apparently Kris Kovarik does it on occasion, so I feel better.
