I’m still amazed men in the UK choose to get married i.e. not at gunpoint.

Depends on what commitments you have retraining is a lot more viable in my opinion if you don’t have a family to support.

Nearby landlord retired after a heart attack now runs my local pub.
He doesn’t talk about it, I imagine he’s seen some rough shit.

I used to have a nice little ride down the river Lea towpath, but rarely bother with it now, the towpaths are too busy with walkers, runners (often listening to music) and other cyclists.
Regents Canal in London – the horror, the horror!

IB is superior to our A-level system in every possible way.
It is better structured; better assessed; better thought-out; a better educational experience for the students.
When I taught both, the A-level syllabus teachers’ guide was 40 pages plus (a testament to never-ending interfering by politicians and educationalists).
The IB guide was 10 pages. Simplicity is genius.
But I noticed it tends to be the preserve of the independent sector.

but to contextualise religious extremism in Western countries in this way is massively misleading

What I have posted, I have posted. I should add, I don’t actually believe Nando’s is the only thing saving us from mass slaughter.

    Subways plays its part too.

(I posted because I thought it was an example of the literary concept of Bathos – trying to make an elevated point whilst referencing a well known restaurant chain).

All this nonsense about depriving the Jihadists of their British passports. Just give them a life ban from Nandos. Problem solved.

From a recent video by a British Jihadist:

“This is the golden era of jihad. What are we doing sitting in the UK, what are we doing in their lands, it’s not the land for us. Are we content with eating Nando’s every week? Come to the land of jihad and shout Allah.”

So that’s what’s keeping us safe from mass slaughter, peri-peri chicken!

They’ve raised the level today, but say they can’t tell us why in detail until Monday. The art of political distraction.

This is sounding more and more like it could be the plotline of some random comedy from the 1980s.

Why the various PCCs in scandals are sitting in their posts, resolute.

I’ve noticed the government have raised the terror alert just now, which conveniently helps bump the story (along with the UKIP defector) off the front pages.

Well when you have the likes of Martin Brundle saying there was a definite second more on the steering wheel into Hamilton’s rear tyre, you really know the game is up.

But the racing authorities didn’t feel the need to investigate it.

He should have just kept his mouth shut.

G/f says the Robert Crais “Elvis Cole/Joe Pike” books

The early ones are especially good. I read lots of LA crime writers the best imo are James Ellroy, Michael Connolly, Joseph Wambaugh and Robert Crais.

Starting to play football again after a long break is pretty much knee-suicide. If you do have to play just say you play goalie and hope your team aren’t crap.

Fullers tried their best to ruin one of my locals.
They have shifted their strategy onto London and I’d say they generally run the London pubs better than their provincial portfolio.
No boozing trip into London is complete for me unless I check-in at the Cheshire Cheese on Fleet St.

Remember the context a bit, perhaps.

This is a good point, the overall context has a great deal of gravity.

That’s partly why I decided not to continue on this thread. Ultimately horrific acts of injustice have been committed, and I feel uncomfortable forwarding my politics, which I freely admit are right-wing, on a public forum and getting involved in a game of one-upmanship. I think that would be wrong. But civility is a virtue, and although myself and Tom are hardly back-slapping, I’d rather leave a conversation on a good note than a vindictive one. As I said, I hope justice is served, but at the end of the day a discussion on Singletrackworld is rather meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks Tom for your kind words, it’s been good to debate on this, let’s just hope that justice is served (I think the issue is attracting a lot of political, media and public pressure that it will do).
    Time I did some work!

I bet you’d love living in Saudi Arabia.

I’d argue my negative attitude towards mass immigration stems from the fact I would rather not live in Saudi Arabia (unless I owned all the oilfields, naturally).

Nope, I just automatically assume everyone else is wrong.

Probably a good place to start from, I admit. I do love the similar Brian Clough quote!

specifically in relation to China, I suspect?

Alas we didn’t get as far as China. No it was used to denote the social changes in the UK in the late 50s and 60s (the pill, change to divorce laws, changes to crime and punishment legislation). I think the term “social revolution” was also used.

Where as you made a claim that does not have any evidence to back it up, ergo, it’s racist.

I don’t think the founding fathers of Western philosophy would be too convinced by your “ergo”. My point was about political correctness!

Btw, when you debate with someone, do you automatically picture them as Bernard Manning?

I do love this phrase in relation to the changes in Western society over the past 50 years – is it something Fox News use?

“Cultural revolution” was used in my school textbooks (and I went to a very liberal comp), and I think it is a historical term to describe social changes which is used by those on the left and the right. It is an increasingly politically loaded term, I’d grant you – that’s partly why I use it!

For none of that, for saying that Pakistanis are more likely to sexually abuse girls. An unfounded accusation which reveals his true self.

That wasn’t my point back in the foggy mists of yesterday. My point was:
“the allegations were not properly investigated before because the abusers were asian and the white staff were worried they would be accused of racism.”

You then went off into hysteria-mode, played the racist card, and bish bash bosh, here we are!

The problem is Tommy, by using the racist-accusation, you’re using an increasingly defunct language.
He’s against mass immigration – racist.
He criticises political correctness – racist.
He dares question the wisdom of the cultural revolution – racist.
It’s been done to death and people are increasingly unafraid of it.

For all the posters talking sense on here (let’s face it, Tommy is the only one who isn’t), I’d advise them to check out the posts on Breitbart London. It seems sanity is slowly being restored and the country is lurching to the right, after 30 years plus of suicidal left-wing thinking.

It’s largely pointless arguing with enlightened souls like Tom, I’m afraid he is the successful product of years indoctrination of state education and media exposure to liberal ideas. He knows what to think, not how to think, and won’t change his mind. No point arguing really. Night all.

The social workers I know see some truly horrible things. I think it is fair to say that most of their cases are on problem estates, with problem families, which have been incentivised by 30 years of left-wing utopian thinking.
Mass immigration and political correctness are essential tools in the arsenal of your average cultural revolutionary and I think the extent of both the abuse and the cover-up are a damning indictment of the social and cultural revolution which your average STW’er likes to defend to the hilt on these forums.
It’s nothing to do with spending cuts or too few social workers.

Sounds terrible MrTall, I hope you manage to sell up soon.

Right, I do concede I crossed the line of provocation in that last post, as dannyh has pointed out with the sage wisdom reminiscent of my old Deputy Headmaster.

In recompense I am willing to start a new thread, “Council tenants next door from Heaven.”

The sun has finally appeared too.
