Local loop tomorrow as the weather is due to buck up although given the rain today it will be a muddy one.

Haven’t a number of regular posters on here ditched the legal game? My old man tried to push me that way and I’m happy I didn’t even open the prospectus.
Whilst I’m sure there are some diligent, conscientious people, the jokes and cliches are there for a reason. The most obnoxious team I’ve ever played darts against was the Oxford University Graduate Lawyers.
Whilst contract law can indeed be a beautiful thing, a significant number of the profession ultimately make their living from human conflict.
We’ve also latterly imported a litigation culture from the US which has made things worse.

When your quarterly bloods tell you that your cancer hasn’t come back…

    Bit selfish but wtf

I wouldn’t call that selfish. I would call that a Result!

The marketing of divorce law is also on the rise. Girl next door to me drives a Smart Car advertising her divorce services, and unsurprisingly she is one of the most unpleasant people on the face of this rock.

Polonious’s speech to Laertes is full of dramatic irony, as the old man doesn’t really follow his own advice – he just likes the idea of being seen as a wise old sage.

In reality he is an interfering albeit ineffective manipulator. And on this the Bard is right – often the people most vocal about giving advice are the least trustworthy and just want to influence/control people.

I wouldn’t intellectualize it by giving it a fancy name though

This is a really good point. The thieving sod / cow can always try to claim diminished responsibility by saying they are afflicted by “narcissistic personality disorder”.

It’s more common than you think, but not always easy to detect. For example, the person may be fairly quiet rather than boasting all the time, but still have a hugely inflated sense of self-importance.

My best friend is a professor of law at a well known university and he is working on a study of how modern legal tactics undermine levels of community trust, he has had no trouble finding case studies!

    Daily Mail influence I suppose.

I was wondering how long before the old Daily Fail/Daily Hate accusations came into this. Sooner than I thought!

If anyone wants to shut down a debate on this forum, then calling your opponent a Daily Mail reader seems a tried and tested method!

It’s similar to the strategies used by the early Bolsheviks, who used to label anyone who disagreed with them as mentally ill.

    Wow, just wow!

What I took from last night’s documentary is that there is a lot of fear/pressure piled on the Salazar athletes in terms of protecting the programme. If you were doping, then there’s no way you would distance yourself from the coach, as he and the medical staff would have evidence of that doping.
I’m 50/50 on Farah being innocent, at the time of the London Olympics I remember being surprised by his kick in the last stretch, and the fact that he didn’t look very tired after (I’d seen him finish 7th two years before and he was absolutely shattered).

Farah was completely out of sorts upto 2010, then he joined up with Salazar and there was a remarkable improvement in his performances. This can happen just as an athlete hits form naturally, but the Salazar connection is worrying.

I will try to attend the meeting too, I’d be interested in hearing more about the Henry who managed to gain public access and how he went about that. Hertfordshire landowners in my experience are fairly ruthless when it comes to squashing dissent and protecting their land.

Encourage the village bike to copulate with the village idiot and you’ll end up with a village scarecrow.

The only long-term solution is to dedicated bike lanes completely separate from road traffic.

Better than the self-righteous, anal formal language people use in such letters.

That’s bloody terrible, I’m pro-cycling but have no time for the pavement cyclists. Walk it or road it.

Have a word with the landlord beforehand, put £20 his way, and stand at the bar with a beady-eye befitting a matriarch with her eye on naughty children.
Being London, it will only last an hour anyhow.

DirtyRider, I hope you recover quickly, I’m all for moaning about the NHS, basically because I don’t agree with the premise in the first place.

If they are that desperate it’s unlikely you will have any time off work to enjoy the riding.

you’ve got your head in the sand

Those are peripheral changes, which only make much of a difference for performance riders.

For the rest of us, I don’t see much difference in a 2007 standard Stumpy compared to a 2015 Stumpy.

    Mountain bikes.
Other than that, as a cultural pessimist, I really can’t think of a single thing that has improved. The internet is nice to have as a communications tool but it has destroyed far more wealth than it has creative, e.g. Amazon has put lots of traditional retailers out of business, but has never made a profit of its own.

I ride the same 2k bike Ive had for the last 8 years, probably spend £150 a year on maintaining it, considering the hours I spend on the bike it’s one of the cheapest hobbies you could have.

The top-end of things has gone up because the sport went mainstream, attracting the more money than sense brigade and the all-the-gear-no-idea wannabees.

Also, a lot of tech innovation between 1995-2005, but that’s largely come to an end now.

I’ve lived abroad in Italy, and I didn’t miss the UK, I had to return for work reasons, whereas the OP is as free as a bird. Granted, though, everyone has a different perception, you definitely have to like muddy mountainbiking!

I’ve been thinking about this for 10 minutes and I think you are out of your mind for wanting to return to the UK when you have the option not to.
I don’t understand the fascination with the Lake District in particular, I’d go for the West Country, somewhere near Exeter.

Tony Blair understood the true value of announcing an inquiry was the fact it meant enough time passed for the public to eventually care less and less about the original crime/misdeeds.
We also have a minefield of a legal system which makes the prosecution of those who covered up the abuse in Oxfordshire and Rotherham extremely unlikely.

I’ve nothing to add other than the fact you have been at that place a long long time so maybe a change is in order: new job? self-employed? Like others above I can’t imagine staying at the same place for that long!

If she isn’t overweight, then I don’t think she can do much about the wobbly bits.
Maybe attend a gym twice a week with training sessions, but if she is really bothered then cosmetic surgery would be easier in the long run.

All these incentives/ sell off’s etc are just playing at the edge of the market, the problem is and will continue to be a lack of supply.

Lack of supply compounded by mass immigration, especially in the South-East, which is rapidly becoming the arse-end of the universe.
