enduring a hangover for two days and feeling sick at a conference day tomorrow?

Now that is a toxic combination.

I have a slow puncture on my town bike, but I’m in two minds whether to continue reinflating it every week or to replace the inner tube.

In London, people are generally reserved, but they are not generally ill-mannered. The culture is to keep yourself to yourself, which I imagine is the case with all big cities.
It’s a vicious cycle – if people act reserved to you, you are more likely to become reserved.
The worse behavior I see is on the roads, rather than public transport, more often than not an Audi driver for some odd reason (it used to be BMWs).
I generally find people friendlier and more open to a chat the further north I go.

Hangovers last for two days rather than a couple of hours.

Great place to visit…you would need Hebrew if you were to live out there a long time.

Look on the bright side. As bad/stressful as our working lives are, at least we are not being marched off to be shot at by Germans like our grandfathers.

As above, model making can bring in a good income if you pick the right market and are exceptionally good.

Did you guys have it in both knees at the same time?

Might try out the patella taping too.

    Cheers

Co-working space? Does that mean you are still working independently, or it is just open plan and you are all working for the same company?
I used a co-working space whilst doing my own thing and generally it has all the benefits of an office (conversation, gets you out of the house) without the main drawback (having to engage with work colleagues).

He’s very different from his public image. My dad’s family knew his extended family in Hackney as they lived nearby.
Male suicide is a major issue and it doesn’t get enough attention.
But as an example of what we are up against, take the idiotic lady who said “All white men should die”. She DIDN’T lose her job.
Unfortunately, too many of us seem to be taking her advice.

AgriTech is a growing area in the East of England.
I work with some of the established and upcoming companies. And some of their work matches your job description.
I’m not aware of a central agritech job site but there are various industry events promoted on the Agri-Tech East[/url] site.

Riding wise, to improve my knee situation, which is stopping me from any 20 mile plus rides.
Then a new bike and some technical coaching and visits to trail centres in Wales and Scotland.

Sounds like one of the most useful PhDs I’ve heard of.
My favourite remains a PhD on the life expectancy of celtic cowboys in the Wild West (not very long, the conclusion).

As a freelance consultant I spend time at other peoples offices, between an hour and three hours to get there, then a two hour meeting. But that’s only a few times a month.

I live in a commuter town and don’t envy those who travel into London every day, on overcrowded and often delayed trains. I’ve avoided such a destiny like the plague and am happy to earn less and do my own thing.

DrJ, what I’ve found has helped me is using tubagrips around my knees under my jeans whenever I go out. You forget your wearing them and they help absorb everyday impact from things like walking.
My main problem with swimming is picking up colds all the time, no matter how much chlorine is in the pool.

If you swim, don’t do breaststroke, maybe just use a float infront of you and paddle away with your knees.
Be careful when talking to fitness people about your knees – they will invariably say, if you join my gym, you can build up the muscle around the knees and that will sort out your problems. This is not the case a lot of the time, it can make it worse.
My knees are fecked so I’ve settled for outdoor group classes on a mushy field for the moment, with tubagrips underneath leggings to give as much support as poss.

    Buy both.

Is your market mainly in the UK? Use the .co.uk and set up a redirect from the .com.

If your market is international then use the .com and set-up country-specific sub-directories with geotargeting.

Ive joined and left gyms on countless occasions as I get mind-numbingly bored, but what has worked for me is group classes. I try to get in 2 or 3 a week and the time flies by compared to working out on your own.

Probably my worst summer for getting out on the bike for 10 years. Hit the gym but have now largely lost any fitness gains through illness and eating and drinking too much.
But I’m planning to turn it around this autumn. Trails in Hertfordshire looking good at the mo.

I’ve always avoided senior positions for the following reasons:
    – I don’t consider myself an ambitious, driven person and work doesn’t motivate me
    – More money normally means more responsibility, which I equate with stress, something I know I don’t react well to
    – Politics tends to get nastier the higher up the food chain

BUT I think the job protection is better the higher up the hierarchy you go, as when job cuts come along, they always hit the people at the bottom first.

Really you need to work out what motivates you.

If the reason she needs speech therapy is just because she is picking up mispronunciations off your partner, then the problem is situational and relatively easy to resolve 1) some speech therapy but it shouldn’t take long and 2) she will start attending school on a more regular basis so will be exposed to native English speakers.

I wouldn’t get upset over it, just one of those things and they will be able to correct her pronunciation fairly quickly. Infact I think some speech therapy is good for verbal intelligence anyway.

I had lots of speech therapy as a kid, three times a week after school, from about 5 to 7 years of age. But I had problems with my hearing, also I think my first therapist was scamming the system – trying to get as many sessions as possible and she exaggerated how bad my speech was. so make sure you find a reputable therapist.

badnewz, have you got contact details for that doctor? I could do with some advice on pPROMs.

Sorry Willard, I can’t remember his name (although I remember he had an Indian or middle-eastern sounding name) and can’t locate him on the John Radcliffe hospital website. Maybe he has left there now.

IMO the best age is to have children between the ages of 25-38, although I was reading in the “I” newspaper today that a new treatment might improve IVF success from 30% to 80%.

Neighbours either side of me are both early 40s and have just had their first kids and seem happy enough.

I was at a reunion event at my old college in Oxford last year. Most of the women there had had their first child after the age of 35.
Apparently in Oxford there is a doctor who specialises in such pregnancies and they all said he made the difference, as he could guide them through the process and know all the potential complications.

Ive broken and dislocated my right patella twice, the pain was agonising to the point I feel physically sick typing this.

    Ditto.

What I can’t understand is how people have actually straightened their own legs and put back (reduced) the dislocation!

I can only assume they are either the hardest bastards in history or there are smaller gradations of dislocation.

Sorry to hear about your other ailments MuddyDrawf. Just out of interest, what was more painful, the patella dislocation or the shoulder?

The shock of actually doing it the first time was harder to take than the pain (which was awful). The second time I did it, I knew the procedure and just counted the minutes until Mr Ambulence arrived with the oxygen.

    Baldness.
The patella dislocation was more intense pain, but the aggregate pain of losing my hair has been far greater:-

What strikes me about myself in my dreams is my complete lack of anxiety/worry when presented with crisis situations.
The only recurring one I have is having to go back to school at the age of 34 to take my A-levels (my uniform doesnt fit me).
It always ends with my having to take the exam the next day, but as it turns out I haven’t attended any of the lessons over the past 2 years.
But it doesn’t bother my dream self in the slightest.
