I’ve had one for about 3 months now, and as said above the only thing I’m not happy with is the rear mud clearance – this never gets a mention in any of the hyped up “trail bike of the year” propaganda.
More than once on muddy rides I’ve had a stone get stuck inside the swing arm between the tyre and it’s now worn down to the casing. I wasn’t planning to replace it with anything that had bigger than the original “2.2” as even the original only has about 1/8″ clearance.

The sooner Cannock is closed to mountain bikers to allow it to concentrate on its core activities of chopping down trees and walking dogs the better IMO.

I had a devil of a job on a replacement Genesis i0 frame. Never had the issue before in 15yrs of MTBing, tried various seat posts (they all vary slighly around the manufacturing tolerance), I tried heavy duty downhill seat clamps, I was going to try an oversize seatpost (27.3 instead of 27.2), in the end a shim made from a coke can wrapped around the seat post solved the problem and never had an issue since. Mind you, I probably won’t be able to get it out again 🙁

I saw loads of reflected eyes staring at me from the undergrowth at Swinley last night, I’ve no idea what they were – I tried not to think about it – gulp!

@Madison? Any chance of responding to an email I sent 2 years ago about the warranty on my Genesis iO?

    The singletrack cognicenti can’t be wrong s this probably isn’t what you were looking for;

I thought the mount was pretty idiot proof 8) – how wrong can you be.
    I used my new one for the first time last Weds and concluded;
1.As Yak sez, put it on the top not the front and the weight isn’t noticeable.
2.The mount is fine, I just had to cut off the excess velcro and I lopped it through the vents on the helmet, rather than around the entire helmet as the picture in the manual shows.
3.No – my helmet did a bit but after tightening the straps and doing point 1 it’s fine.

I did it last year. Didn’t know what to expect, the run was down down down (thinking this is gonna hurt sooner or later) then it was up up up.
MTB course was superb – did it on my singlespeed, there was only one hill of any significance, really bermy twisty fun. The second run was as expected this time down down down up up up. Definitely worth a go. But I’m not doing it this year.

Slight change of emphasis, but it could be an important factor when choosing? Not sure what warranty comes with a cotic, but I’ve just got a new Genesis i0 frame for my 4 year old bike due to a cracked weld near head tube – no quibble lifetime guarantee – didn’t even realise it 🙂

Love ’em – my most ridden steed.
After 4 years just found a crack in gusset below head tube, but hopefully the lifetime warranty will kick in? Fingers crossed.
It’s not put me off owning one…………….. yet

I panicked and thought it might be me – then I realised I was already home!

I’m regularly using a set, I get the same clunk (but I don’t let it bother me!) I think it comes from a rather fragile bit of rubber that acts as a buffer to stop this noise, it has probably split and fallen off. Item 9 on page 6 of the duc32 fork manual that you can download off the Mav website.

I tried to make my first visit on Wednesday, I’m working at Heathrow, but after spending 30 minutes trying to get on the M25 I gave up 🙁
    I’ll try again this week.

I’ve used conti’s of various sorts for years – never had the black chilli variant in any type. Got ordinary Mountain Kings on my Singlespeed, and I’d buy ’em again.

It is feasible – just choose a more friendly dealer next time – I got just frame and forks on the scheme – and frame forks & wheels is a lot more like a complete bike

    Glad you enjoyed it xcentric.
But with all due respect I will continue to buy kit in the hope of it making me fitter and draw my own conclusions 😉

Well last Saturday it was “better than shite” so as we haven’t had any rain, this week it’ll be “much better than shite”.

    You’ll be fine.

    I entered yesterday 🙂

I did the Bristol Off-road Duathlon in October last year – it was quite tough. I was 29th out of 31 in my age group after run #1, but had loads of fun climbing back up the field in an “assertive” manner once back on the bike. As whytetrash suggests “they” aren’t very good on MTB’s.

    See you there.

I may be going mad but the nutcracker website doesn’t actually say what date it is on?

    I’m not sold on it.
But I did like the tractor at 1m29.

I always buy Endura as first choice, I currently have a pair of 2 year old singletrack shorts that have done over 100 rides and are still going strong. They are replacements for some that only lasted 3 rides – but Endura changed them no problem.

Dead easy, pull the cover thingy off the axle wi’ some pliers, non-drive side is easier, then just whack the exposed axle(carefully) and it’ll drift out the bearing on the drive side, remaining bearing even easier.

I’ve got the same problem on my singlespeed, been driving me mad, have to tighten ’till they almost shear off. SS bolts will be too short to cope with more than 1 ring, they’re only just long enough for the one. I’ve currently got some stainless steel single ring bolts with loads of copper grease, but they still creak – roll on winter – when the mud seems to provide some form of lubrication and they go quiet.

I’m 6’0″ and have just built up a small in-bred, with a 400mm seat post, and it feels just about right – but I wouldn’t want the seat post to be sticking out any further – so I think the answer is NOT A SMALL

LS – you’re talking hard as nails CXers, we’re talking mincing MTBers, I predict carnage 😆

Had it happen once on an XT cassette, it was an older type that had a 4 arm spider, that same year they upgraded them to a 5 arm (less space between supports for bending to happen). Never had it happen before or since – just unlucky I’d say.

No pics, but having had mine for 5 years now, I have no intension of changing it anytime soon.
Beauty is – I know – in the eye of the beholder, but I just don’t see any modern bike looking quite as good.

    I stand corrected.
I bet there is someone out there though who has tried to remove the green/blue anodised ring hoping that it will get the freewheel body off?

+2, I’ve got a set in that are so old I don’t think they are ever going to wear out.

The pins aren’t for removing the freewheel, they are for dismantling the unit to get access to the bearings and pawls. It’s the 4 big slots that are for removing the freewheel for the hub.

I got a Park tool (51605) from CR for 12.99, although it doesn’t look like the photo at all so it will fit.

Thought you needed to weld it in an inert environment, i.e. if it’s a frame, you need a glovebox big enough to fit a frame inside – which I wouldn’t have thought was a run-of-the-mill pice of equipment?

Sent my entry “guaranteed next day delivery before 13h00” fingers crossed that normally gets me in.

    11th year this time around.

I’m liking the 12h00 start this year.

Sorry I thought it said the “funniest trail” – but I’ll post on that basis anyway – The Barbie Trail at Cannock which features (well it used to I haven’t noticed them for a while now I come to think about it!) various Barbie & Ken figures in various states of undress and disassembly.
