OP sounds like my standard commute TBH :(
It is a bloody nightmare I have one big set of lights (stick to the outside) and 3 mini roundabout all of which on a weekly bases I’m nearly killed on. The roundabouts are the worst TBH

spent many, many nights in the woods at night pre mobile days while working as a gamekeeper looking for poachers.

The worst thing to come at you is a badger, sounds like an elephant coming through the undergrowth. And the odd very close fox call which sometimes sound very like a woman screaming.

I’ve been in a 1000 acre block of forest and had the mist roll in to the point you cannot see your hand in front of your face. The only way to get out then is to look up for the lighter bit of sky above the track your on LOL

I do avoid watching scary films though :-)
Your probably in more danger of a deer misjudging your speed and taking you out then at axe man. :D

The chase scene in the first 5 mins of this film was ground breaking for camera work, well before the bourne identity films.

The start of “Lord of War” is excellent as ell (life of a bullet lol)

TBH when I first saw it I though it was a blurred shot of two flying ducks :D

The problem with the BBC quote is the complete statement is bollocks as the pan itself is top left corner to bottom right or the other way round either way he was not panning.

I go for the falling over with slow shutter speed myself.

Blimey that put mine pretty hi
26″ FS with 22% sag 40 PSI front & back
    29er HT 50 PSI front & back
And i’ll ride anything at those pressures whether commuting on the 29er or big lakes rides on the 26 FS.

Wet concrete covered in leaves works well for this :D

I’ve never washed out on my 26″ Spesh Enduro but my 29er Spesh Carve hardtail is a whole different story lost it 3 times once on some wet wooden planks nearly putting me in hospital. Also lost it on wet grass when turning sharply :? I ride the 29er pretty carefully these days in wet conditions :(

If it’s really bad I take them off but I’ve just got some sports glasses that are way better than standard ones in the wet (mine have a sealed gasket around them like swimming goggles.).

I’m going through a phase of wanting to ride through the bridge at the Trafford Centre then go down the stairs by the fountain at present.

GoPro it and stick it on Youtube just wondering how much I could do before they could grab me

We use Blurb for albums but always add half a stop (brightness) as they seem to always print slightly darker than our calibrated PC’s.

CaptainFlashheart as a Enduro owner (2011 Expert) I thank you for the review really useful I am looking to upgrade next year and was nearly going for a 29er.

But my mate as just got a 650B Ghost and started looking at 650B myself the only fly in the ointment for me is the pricing for Spesh Enduro bikes has just got bloody crazy for 2015!

I don’t have any of my own but had a deep and meaning full conversion with my god daughter last weekend about why going out and getting pissed out of her head and bringing her 2 mates back both as pissed to her mums house late on Saturday night then having one of them throwing up all night is NOT acceptable behavior for a 14 (going on 20 ) year old

Enjoy them while they are young gents it get worse!

My Cus never had any bother with her son (now 22) but her daughter is, in her words ” a **** nightmare!”.

I see this as a good thing and the dogs love it but just don’t push them as they love you they will follow regardless but may shorten their lives in the long term with joint issues leg issue etc..

So while out with dog just bare in mind the speed your traveling.

Same all over though look at Whinlater red to Northface for instance in the lakes both Reds as well.

TBH sometimes we have more fun on Blues as they seem to be smoother where a competent rider can travel at real speed the only problem then is other users who are not as confident.

As others have said you do not need a big knife to deal with anything the UK has to offer game wise.
I’m an ex-gamekeepr part of my job used to be to kill things on a very regular bases here is my take on it.

In general in pursuit of game without the landowners or their representative permission is classed as poaching, fish carries heavier fines than fury game, and river bailiffs have the power of arrest.

Gamekeepers to not have the power of arrest except for citizens but have the power to remove you from the land using the minimal of force necessary.
So I in the past have asked people to leave and they have **** off or we have had 12 blokes, 3 4×4 tractors a Alsatian and a Rottweiler to do the job. The final result was the same in both cases BTW. The third party/s left. :D

Armed tresspass is a big one and you will do time if caught.

So back to the OP the biggest knife you need is a Opinel #8 that’s it. You as someone with very little experience will starve to death using your outdoor skiillz at present having snares, traps etc is one thing known where the hell to use them is a different skill all together :-)

So being helpful to survive and hunt for food you will need a Opinel #8 knife,a wire saw or folding saw and a decent air rifle with scope and ammo. You will then need to get your field craft skillz up to speed fairly quickly as you will once again starve unless you kill anything.
And the final fly in the ointment is with this perfect tool kit for self sufficiency you will be committing armed trespass.

When I first started gamekeeping many moons ago we were told any cat over 35 yards from home can be classed as feral a pest and shot. Not sure the legality of the 35 yards but the shooting of feral cats is covered.

The following mammals can be controlled by legally approved methods all year round – see British Association for Shooting and Conservation for more information. linky

    Fox
    Rat
    Mice (except dormice)
    Rabbit
    Grey squirrel
    Mink
    Weasel
    Stoat
    Feral cat

    Edit more info
If you shoot a domestic cat you would be committing criminal damage and as well as being charged you could also be sued by the owner for damages.

trail_rat my point was if OP wanted to say get a 4 bike rack for him and his mates and 4 downhill bikes for a trip to Wales etc.. He may be in trouble.

For him and his Mrs bike no issues.
Depends on what he needs the tow hitch / bike rack for, just something to take into account before getting an expensive tow hitch added. :-)

Just be careful OP with what nose weight your car can take if it’s sod all you may find it’s not worth the cost if you can only put one bike on the back 8O

I drive a Shogun Sport it only has a nose weight of 150 Kg so for small cars best check your manual.

Hi-Powers were total shit IMO. Me being of an age when we were allowed hand guns I shot them every other weekend.

Always found it had a very wippy recoil hated shooting the bloody thing now a Colt 45 was a completely different beast cracking gun super smooth very accurate. :-)

The story goes when the bans were coming in every one bought up any old second hand shit as they got full price compo for when the police carted them away and paid up :-)

Still miss shooting them though :|
    Edit
I could hit a coke can at 30 yards with a bow and arrow :D

We were on a walk a while back when the gf needed to go. So I said just go down there off the path into the edge of a wood.

Just as she was getting her kit off I told her someone was coming and she struggles to get her kit back on only for myself to start laughing (no one coming at all) :D

She then got back to business when a dog walker started coming along the path I warned her she swore at me and I just carried on walking next thing she had a wet dog nose up her arse

Tom_W1987 I really would not give a shit if they were green aliens with pink spots the problem is they see themselves as soldiers of whoever / whatever but we piss around with a drone strike here and there.

If they want a war with the west give them a war with the west in the 21st century gloves off. Wipe them off the face for the earth.

I bet you do it once and the next along the line bunch of nutters would give things some serious though when they know everything and every one they were fighting for would be gone in a large mushroom shaped cloud as soon as they kick off.

As the locals have done one as soon as they hear ISIS are on the way why don’t we just sit on a hill several hundred miles away and nuke them. Then watch the fireworks.

Surround the area with tape saying please return for the oil in 2114.

Job done! People really do over think these things.

I suppose it depends on the weather conditions as well we went to do Black Combe the other week coming up the back side of it to ride down the Whicham side bloody straight forward on the map, reality was completely different.

We go lost. Had the map the compass but the trail we were on slowly vanished in front of our eyes into the heather and then the low cloud rolled in and visibility dropped to 15 feet.

So we carried on knowing the path we should be on was just ahead after 40 mins of hike a bike through high heather we were pretty ****.

The cloud turn day to pretty much late evening and we had to make a decision. As the path we were trying to find just did not seem to be there.

Final look at the map and we made a call just to get the **** off the mountain before it became really dark, we followed a stream back down the fell which took us back to were we knew where we were.

Looked at the GPS track the following day we we approximately 350 meters from the trail when we turned back, sods law but we will do it again another day.

I could see how less experienced people may have been dialing the mountain rescue in a similar situation.

The signs did give it away to them but unless you were there on the day in the weather they were in it was there call to make. I suppose.

    Not much help to OP
But when my parents were selling they had one party interested but the Estate Agent kept telling the third party my parent were away, too busy to give second viewing etc..etc…
All because the estate agent wanted the property for themselves for rental, scum bags

I was crap at football alway last to be picked, in the rugby B (as in don’t bother) side. Very good at Cross country within top 10 of 120 lads and in the top 3 for wrestling.

Those Wendy ball boys did not like it when you put them in a half Nelson and rammed there faces into the crash mats.

    Karma is great! :D

chakaping we do it part of a bigger ride and slogged it up from Old Man’s Hill off the Witton Weavers Way behind Belmont Res.

Start at the car park by the big school near Rivi Barn (The Castle).
Then up Wilderswood the up Dog Kennels then up to the mast.

Then San Marino, edge of Belmont Village turn right towards Charters Moss Plantation then Joint Witton Weavers Way to Old Man’s Hill.

Up Great Hill to White Coppice then Healey Nab (not going round it though) Lane Ends then back through the park to the car park.
    :-)

TBH the hike a bike near the top of Great Hill was good training for Walnascar Road in the Lakes the other week LOL :D
