Whinlatter is fun but Gruzedale really is some of the worst riding in the lakes. Much better natural trails in that area.

Totally disagree the Northface if you have not done it before is good fun one big climb the rest is down hill high speed fun with a few fireroad climbs thrown in. There are lots of cracking bridleways there of course as well.

I really don’t know why people slag it so much Winlatter is good but I must admit the first time I did it after reading all the fan boy posts I got half way round the Nothern Red loop and wondered if I’d been riding the right place, was not that impressed TBH! It got better after that though :-)

Horses for courses I suppose ride them both and make your own mind up OP Oh and were are doing Northface again tomorrow just for the hell of it :D

Karinofnine when our dog was put to sleep he used to have a trick which I showed him of flicking the double doors open to our living room, months went by and every now and again the doors would spring open as though he was coming it at first it scared the family then it was just accepted Teal was coming in like his usual self. :-)

Also for years his fav spot was the top of the stairs waiting for the family to come home and for years and I mean years you could always smell him there (the house was well cleaned BTW) :-)

for mtb go and loose yourself around Delamere for a couple of hours :D

Other wise stick ot the canals we do a “local ride” Sale > Sale water Park > Chorlton Water Park > Sale Water Park > Sale Canal > Lymm > Lymm Dam > Dunham Park > Sale about 20 od miles easy riding on mtb more for mile munching and a few decent pubs than anything else :-)

Now and again, when we get customers in I’ve to dress up but as I’m usually on the shop floor it’s more a case of wearing long combats to keep clean and have enough pockets to carry all the crap I have to carry round with me :(

But this week short sleeved shirt and baggies with leg pockets have done the job nicely :D

Why not start traveling further a field? Lakes for instance have a weekend there

In general we do a rotating month (base in Manchester).

Week 1 local mile muncher (mileage muncher 25 mile minimum) easy local riding straight out the front door.We do find a bit of techy stuff as well.

Week 2 15-25 mile tech stuff plus bridleways localish Rivington Area

Week 3 Delamere, Philips Park etc short but fun stuff

Week 4 Big Ride currently The lakes.

Next year the big rides will be all in Wales

This is not set in stone be we tend to be out 3 out of every 4 weeks :-) Just mixes it up a bit and keeps thing interesting :D

robbieh the thing is when I’m not working my arse off I’d rather be riding the **** thing rather than pissing about with it FFS

I have the money why not pay someone more qualified/experienced than myself to do it I walk in pay money ride my bike simples OR not in this case it seems

I’m sure I could have, had ago at it but for the cost of an hours labour charge and the parts (which I would have had to buy anyway) why not get it done by a qualified person? The 2 hours it would have most likley taken myself (at least being my first time) I can be doing more enjoyable things, like riding my other bike :D

I though they had stopped all the riding now through the gardens I was up the other week and there were signs?

Best thing is to go to the top do San Marino they ride your self back up to the top then ride Dog Kennels and back down :D

Or do this via Turton and get 25 miles under your belt :D

I was in Delamere the other week with the gf taking some photos wearing all the gear more for looking 8) than anything else lol

Battering down the skills area front wheel washed out and ended up going sideways and smashing my head into the roots on the ground. Lucky I had the FF on usually I don’t bother and just wear my normal lid in Delamere lesson learned.

If I could find a decent way of attaching my FF to the camel back I’d take it on every ride from now on, I’m just hoping as the Enduro stuff gets more popular due to PB videos etc.. They will start making camel backs with sutable nets, attachments etc.. to carry FF about to swap out on the trails :-)

    We NEVER prosecuted

    . That’s because you can’t, surely?

Yes you can in civil courts, in fact the landowner, or person, persons under their instructions can use the minimal force as is necessary to extract the said trespasser from their land.

So if your trepassing and the landowner or person/persons under their instruction come up to you and says “your trepassing please leave” all you have to say is “ok no problem I’m going” and that is that.

If you start ballooning about, making threats, damaging fences, gates or actually assault the persons asking you to leave they can pretty much in the worst case pick you up take you to the nearest edge of the said land and place you down gently to get you off the land.

BUT this is where the grey area is between using minimal force that is necessary and assult, GBH etc…

99.99% of the time never had any problems but we did have one occasion the 0.01%

Where the minimal force turned out to be 12 blokes, 3 4×4 tractors, a Rottweiler and a German Shepard 8O New Age travelers bless their cotton socks :D

    To answer the question yes.

My legs are shredded every time I’m out and it’s usually the pushing up rather than the actual riding that does it. :-)

I’m male so don’t really give a toss to be honest it’s usually when the gf says “what have you done to your legs?” or “did you come off?” before I look down and notice I’ve blood trails down my legs to be honest, got to love those Nano’s :D

I’ve given up on any hope of wearing a summer dress again

    Same here

I’ve seen this from both sides of the fence.

I used to be a gamekeeper and lost count of the numbers of walkers/day trippers/sex craved individuals :D I’ve had to tell to leave the private ground they were trespassing on funny enough never saw any bikers but there you go.

It’s was usually down to 2 things; distubance and their own safety. On the whole people were ok had a couple of death threats as well but mainly people were just bumberling along in the wrong place. I always remember the day I was looking down the scope of a .243 full bore rifle when the target did one and a pair of boots and socks came into view 8O

We NEVER prosecuted we just explained where they had gone wrong and directed them to the correct right of way for walkers or for people at night in there cars naked shone 150,000 candel power lamping into the car and told them to “Get dressed and F@~K Off! Your on Private land”

From a biking point of view locally I do ride some footpaths but strangly enough when we go on a proper rides, lakes etc we always stick to bridleways don’t know why but we just do :-)

The only trouble I’ve had on the bike has been dog walkers complaining I had no bell on a canal path as their dog wondered on it’s 30 foot bloody lead  And I woman screaming at me on a bridleway “There people round the corner!, There people round the corner!” which to be fair I was trveling at a fair lick but had seen them before she opened her mouth :D

How about getting rid of half these “managers” that do sweet FA on the wards.
Seriously I wonder how much of the NHS huge wage bills are taken by middle management.

You just need to drink more mate :D

We go to alot of my BH family doo’s and to be honest thers a couple of them I get on well with but the rest are in general either alot younger (and female) and I’d look like a pervy old man trying to talk to them or very old.

So as she shwishes round the room I just sit and drink, and drink some more because at some point when the BH finally returns she will want a dance and I consider the drinking vital preperation for me hitting the dance floor :D

Oh and smart phones are great in these situtations as well :-)

Ok I’m semi pro shot with most of the Canon line here is my take on it.

Buy Canon 550D Tell her to set it to the portrait mode when shooting images of you or you of her or third party of you both. Landscape mode for everything else and you will not go far wrong on your first outing.

And if she gets into it invest in glass (lenses) not camera bodies.

Really these days you can put a DSLR in the hands of an 8 year old and get some decent (in layman’s terms) images. If she gets into it then learn about shutter speed, aperture and ISO etc.. But if your not bothered use the above settings and it will get you most of the way there, people love to over complicate stuff.

Are you sure he/she is living there or just passing through? Maybe was chased under there by local cat,dog or fox? I’d give it a day or two and see if it’s still there as there are not prone to living close to us to be honest.

If it’s still there I’d send it a bill for rental accomodation :D

Or just give a prod with a broom (give it a escape route don’t have the garden full of every one just you go on your own and let it run in the opposite direction and out from the decking) if wild it will be gone if it stays it’s either a lost pet or injured and may make a decent stew*

    * Depending or said injury.
