When I started my original commute (7 miles each way) after not being on a bike for over 20 years I just built myself up into it 4 weeks at 2 days then 2 weeks at 3 days then another 2 weeks and 4 days then 5 days a week a month or so later.

Avoid busy roads and roundabouts at all cost if you can there bloody dangerous, after some very near misses I actually change my route to avoid one roundabout in fact.

And just ride like every one is trying to kill you as most of them are and finally buy the very BEST water proofs you can afford trust me you will never regret spending good money on waterproofs when you walk out of work and its pissing down!

I’d go round and explain the facts of life to her and if she carries on punch her.lights out 12 months of weekends doing community work would be worth it TBH and cheaper than moving.

Stone Roses, She Bangs The Drums :-)

My mate got married last year at Worsley Court house after 10 mins of the DJ playing his own shit my mate’s best man went up to the DJ and told him from now on he plays what he says for the rest of the night with the B&G full permission.

Stone Roses, Oasis, Rainbow, AC/DC, Metallica etc etc etc……. One of the best weddings receptions EVER!. The first and only time I will no doubt see a bride in full dress moshing to Metallica 8)

We are in out early 40’s

I used to do 14 miles a day (7 miles in each direction) 4 x a week now moved alot closer so it’s only 5 miles a day whatever the distance the best investment you can make is in waterproof clothing, it cost in the short term but your in for much more comfortable rides in the long term.

The only PIA is you need to carry it all the time due to our none predictable UK weather.

Both for me the big rides are nearly always with 1 mate for safety more than anything else but it’s just good fun just a couple of us.

Solo is usually local or stuff I’ve ridden alot before.

mynamesnotbob we go to Delamere regular (usually Sundays and the odd Friday evening) if you fancy the tour (of what we know), it’s a 12 mile route there or there abouts let me know it’s a bit of a maze if you on your tod to be honest took us a few months to work out some good routes there.

Other than that Rivi is close by then the Lakes of course.

Rivi has some nice stuff for a place a stones throw from a city the size of Manchester. :-)

I enjoy San Marino but it doesn’t like me lol I’ve binned it on the last 2 times I’ve ridden it. According to the GPS the last one I hit the deck at 18 mph and that hurt big time I had the imprint of the Gopro chesty on me for days :D

We are up there this Sunday doing all 3 descents San Marino, Dog Kennels and Ice Cream I hope i’ll stay on for once LOL

Cheers guys coolhandluke started to do the “Don’t hang onto the brakes, let it run then brake” today and eased it off until it gets really sketchy and started to cover brakes again.

simondbarnes I was thinking that today as well. The only thing that comes close nearby would be the Ice Crean run at Rivi from what we were riding today and even thats pretty tame but as close as we get local so planning lots of runs over the next few weeks down that with any luck :-)

Cheers everyone for the info :-)

To be honest good luck to them if I wear FF I’m usually planning on either traveling extremely fast so trying something new, not trying to impress anyone else TBH just keeping my good looks LOL.

With regard to Gopro guilty here as well but I prefer it to stopping and taking stills for keeping great memories of cracking rides. Also using Gopro is great for when we want to ride a route again to see whether we can make time up , avoid things that slowed us down last time etc.. Starts as a good reference for improving a ride we have done before. :D

Ok I’ll spark in again their attitude just sucks! I’m on a narrow country lane off to Delamere come round a corner and 5 of them in front of me 2 then 3 now the lane in question has a few blind corners and is not a straight road so I sit there with the tunes on waiting for the 3 and the 2 to maybe just go to single line and left me past and at the same time would allow me to give them plenty of room.

No they stay in there 2 and 3 formation chatting away drinking from there bottles just totally ignoring the now 3 cars stuck behind them and so it goes on and on until we finally get to a junction when they spread themselves 4 wide and sit there deciding on which way there going to go FFS

And they wonder why cars will do risky moves to get past / try to get past them. **** ****.

Hi gents a quick question, my mate and myself are up there this Sunday we were planning to park at Torver then go clock wise
    Hummer Lane
Follow Bridleway throughthe woods to Stephenson Ground
    Up Long Mire
Down Old Park Beck to Seathwaite
The join the Walna Scar Road
Then follow it through Banishead to Bowmanstead
Then join the Cumbria way along edge of Coniston Water back to the A5084 and Torver

BUT at Walna Scar Road would the better decent be turing right just after Goatfoot Crags and follow the bridleway down past the Quarries and Climbing Hut towards Crook and Torver??

    Cheers for any info :-)

There a pain in the arse when trying to over take also riding 3 abreast are just being pricks i **** hate rodies in groups they just come across as ingnorant pricks.

Even on the way to Delamere on side roads (country lanes) you get groups of 5 riding 3 abreast taking there time chatting away holding people up just bloody ingnorant IMO

Just got one of these Lowepro Rover Pro 35L AW Backpack after reading the review in Singletrack and although expensive and mainly for photo kit lugging it would make a cracking 35l overnighter acres of room.

Did 16 miles in it last Sunday and it was very pleasent. Lowepro stuff is pricey but having 4 diffferent bags off them (for different types of video / photo jobs) they will last a life time even when abused. :D
