Sounds like you need new bushings/seals. You can buy them from places like TFT.

    Good choice! 😛

I reckon the alloy ones are a better choice tbh, I’ve bashed mine on loads of rocks so far, partly due to the wider platform, but they are solid!

I went from V8s to the nano-techs. The Nanos are far superior, both in platform size and grip. They are nice and thin too so you feel closer to the axle. I always felt like I had to point my feet inwards to use the V8s and could feel the edge of my foot falling off the sides, but I just plant my foot down on the Nanos.

I thought X9 was the equivalent of XT, so would probably be better overall. That said I’d rather have the Shimano as I don’t get on with SRAM. Swings and roundabouts really.

I have an older version of the Alien XS and it’s good. I like the way it splits into two so you can have the allen keys and the spanners at the same time.

I’ve worn mine on and off since cutting my shin/knee down to the bone on my chainring. I could do with replacing them as they are old “Hard Knox” thick neoprene things that are far from breathable!

Anyone recommend some good knee/shin pads and also some elbow pads?

Another vote for Malware Bytes. It’s the only software I know of that deals with the most persistant malware infections (eg ones that adaware and spybot cant deal with).

Just put enough pressure to give you about 25% sag and tune from there. Using trial and error is the best way to setup suspension.

Run more air in the -ve and add some compression damping if thats an option.

If you have no preference yourself, go for the cheapest. I personally find Shimano gears a lot better than SRAM stuff though.

I ride flat pedals and can pull up on the up stroke, just by tilting the pedal forwards and pushing back and up, makes for a more consistant power stroke.

Basically what MrNutt said is 100% the truth and dont let anyone tell you different.

The Superstar pedals are about as thin as flat pedals get, and they are pretty cheap. Nice big supportive platform that grip my Duffs a treat.

Both gear cables cross over each other on my 08 Meta 5. So as you look down on the bike from a riding position, the front mech cable uses the left hand stopper and crosses over to the right as it approaches the BB.

I raced the welsh points series in ’95 or ’96, and the terrain was pretty damn rough even then. You just had to choose your line more carefully and I’m pretty sure we went slower than you would these days. By then most people had early suspension forks though (I had Manitou 4s, they were ace!).

Mine took a week, but the build quality was fantastic. They’ve stayed true for a couple of years now.

I can only compare the Floats to qr Revs.

Floats: Lighter, better suspension action with a more linear stroke.
    Revs: Slightly stiffer.

Undo the stem bolts, loosen the headset top cap bolt a bit, tighten the stem back up. Is it still rough? Hard to tell you how tight this bolt should be without a torque wrench.

It’s because of the way DNS works (DNS is the system that converts the URL into an IP address). DNS is cached around the world in different servers. A DNS entry will tend to have an age associated with it, between 24 and 48 hours, after which time it will renew which IP address is associated with the domain name. So yeah, just wait and try again tomorrow 😛

omg that pic of the Raleigh Burner… I had an identical bike and had totally forgotten about it, happy memories! It finally died shortly after I rode it in the sea, I wonder why 😛

Considering SSing my commuting bike, I’ve already converted it to fully rigid, I’m just not sure I’d get up the many steep hills on the way to work.

Having just checked out the lowest gear I use, it is 32-18, so maybe I would get away with something like 32-16…

I was just going to buy a big syringe and some tubing and diy it. Surely you don’t need any thing else bar brake fluid?

Nah 440mm, but then the bike originally came with 80mm forks so it’s been relatively slack for a while. It certainly feels twitchy now but that’s probably only compared to how it was.

Out of interest where can I buy suitable syringes for bleeding brakes? I need to do my Hayes Nines and Juicys at some point in the future.

I’ve just changed my commuter/hard tail from 130mm Revs to a steel p2 and oooh my god. It certainly teaches you to ride more smoothly! I never realised that the cycle to work was so bumpy! Feels really odd standing up to power up a hill and the bike just driving forwards.

The only reason I rang was because of their reputation for being helpful, and they were obviously going to get a sale out of me anyway.

It’s kinda like when I buy parts from the local BMW dealer, the parts guys are quite willing to impart advice on how to do jobs and what parts they think I need, even though they potentially lose my business by getting me to bring the car in for them to do it.

@ ziggy, that’s why I’m asking for advice! He can conditionally say that I generally will need X if its been used for y hours or something.

At that point I was a bit wary of the advice I would be given, kinda like being told by a dodgy mechanic that I needed a new engine when it only needed an oil change or something.

My wording was along the lines of “Which kits do I need to buy..”, something like that anyway. I would have thought that I was buying it from them was implied.

Basically I was asking what I would likely need out of:

32mm Seal kit, Samurai wiper, oil seals & foams – all models
Pike/Reba/Revelation Dual Air Service Kit (all O-rings, air valves, air caps, bottom out pads)
Pike/Reba/Revelation Motion Control O-Ring Kit (all O-Rings,Circlips, Bottom Out Pad & Foot Bolt

    but he wouldn’t tell me.

edit: Oh I wasn’t asking how to do it, that would be taking the wee I think, I was asking which of their products I should buy!

Man I’d go for one of these, bargain! That postage is steep though.

I’ve got an E36 328 coupe so I know what you mean re bike carrying. It’s as if they designed the car to be the hardest to carry bikes in/on. I’m not sure how I would feel going from an M3 to a diseasel though, urgh.

lol at working in Forbidden Planet and not knowing about Bike, you’re almost next door! I like Bike as they’ve always done me well.

Mine works differently: You can claim up to £800 towards bike & accessories. Work generate a cheque payable to the bike shop. You then pay 800/12 = £66.67 gross (£44 net) per month. At the end of the year you pay 5% of the £800 = £40.

    Total paid: £568

I rode it just before xmas but one part was closed for an unspecified reason. The berms on parts of this course were just stupid silly good.
