The hot tube came with the house, so just following on from the previous owners. However, as the water is at a higher temp than the pool, I think bromine doesn’t have the same “wiff” and irritation as chlorine might. Yes, it came with a pool as well, which uses chlorine!

Did the Ridgeway a couple of weekends ago. My top tip if staying near Uffington, is don’t rely on the Fox and Hounds serving evening meals (even though confirmed the day before!) and cycle to the White Horse in Woolstone instead, for a superb meal and couple of pints! All doable on a CX bike and hopefully the trail will have dried out a bit since my trip!

Giant TCX SLR1 here. Fantastic bike and the D-fuse composite seat post is really complyant. A really versatile bike. Mine: https://goo.gl/photos/r5x6BkopdBP8pWAa7

One thing I did before attaching the additional strap is move the original saddle rail strap (if thatmakes sense), as this gave a better alignment to this fixing IMO.

Trying a photo link to my strap modification.

Please tell me if this works and I’ll add others with an updated explanation. Thanks.

Haven’t owned a dog in years, but love the smell of a dog, especially that bit off fur in front of the ears!

I’ve modified mine by putting an additional strap through a couple of the loops to the rear of the saddle rail strap. This is then tightened around the saddle post and reduces sway quite effectively, as it clamps onto the central webbing rather than allowing it to run to and fro as the saddle rail strap does. I may have to post pictures to explain this better.

It’s a bit late to be asking, I’ve just looked it up and entry is now closed for this year! Have fun and I hope the weather holds. I’ve bookmarked it for next year. ..

I managed to get a TCX SLR1 discounted to £999 as it was the 2015 model. The frame is wonderfully complyant for an ally frame, especially with the composite D post. Although pushed as a CX bike, the geometry is similar to so called “adventure” bikes. Just completed a bikepacking tour of the Ridgeway and the bike has been faultless. As said above, you can even mount a rack if so inclined. Take a closer look at the frame (made in the Netherlands), with loads of mud clearance. I love mine!

Thanks for the replies. Reason is, I’m replacing a 46T chainring with a 50T and hoping (haven’t yet counted the existing links) that I’ll have an extra 4ish links to play with!

The existing chain (very low milage) is a KMC X11L and as I need extra links, I was hoping to get an identical new chain and transfer remaining links to the old chain giving me a second chain; is this doable?

Bikebouy, lovely looking Giant, with a few upgrades I see! Can you tell me what gear range you’re running? Doesn’t look like the stock CX.

Yes, knew this was in the making as I had to review cranage for some of the filming. Not sure if it would be a spoiler to mention the location. 😉

A.S. Adventure are selling the Garmin Edge Touring for £120. Seems like a good price. Anyone used this website before? Any cheaper elsewhere?
    Cheers.

Yes, it’s something that was passed down from my grandparents who hailed from Lincolnshire and our family have been upholding this tradition ever since! And no, I’m not in a cult…

Apologies for resurrecting the thread! Also looking for a cheapish headtorch for winter running duties. Looking at the Alpkit units and not having worn one before wondered if the single strap is sufficient on the Munon, or would I need the extra over strap (Gamma currently sold out!) to stop the light unit from bobbing around? Any real world experience? Liked the simplicity of the Munon; presumably less weight and no extra cables, but is this a false economy?

@Stever, as you say, 34T looks like the smallest the RS500 chainset will take, unless anyone has a work round! Not sure I like the sound of an 11-32 with a short cage.

According to Shimano a short cage mech, which I’m pretty sure I’ve got, will only go to 28T on the rear. However, it will accommodate a 16T difference up front. So the cheapest option would be to fit a 32T up front. But from what you are saying, it sounds like these rules can be broken!

Hasn’t happened yet, but was wondering if I ever needed lower ratios for continuous steep climbing what the current rear mech would take? I think it’s a short cage with current 11-28 cassette and 46/36 up front. If I decided to change to say a smaller 34 ring what could the existing mech cope with at the back?

I managed to hunt down a 2015 Giant TCX SLR1 for £999. Bang on the money for the CTW scheme and a cracking spec. Apart from the price, the bonus for me was that I much prefer the colour to the 2016 model. Didn’t realise but the frame is made in the Netherlands another plus point!

Just ordered a lizard skin thanks. Yes the bike takes a bit of getting use to; the Spire brakes aren’t as snappy as hydraulic mtb brakes. And I know that at some point the toe overlap with the front wheel is going to catch me out when I least expect it! But it certainly puts a smile on your face; loving the honeymoon period!

Not bling, but more the additional “stuff” that you justify spending on a new bike! It’s all good…

All I’m really after is a cloud storage app that I can have on various devices (Android/iPad), with the ability to stream my own music. I haven’t gone into it in any detail either (currently at work!) but hopefully you can configure song choice and genre, etc.

Apologies, Just looked it up, so presumably depending on stove location and set up the fan helps to Circulate the warm air around the room.

Just acquired a log burner, so not up to speed on stove etiquette, but why do some have small fans on top? What is the benefit?

The valve actuators are like the ones shown in Stoner’s latest post bottom two pictures. How do I know which value is going to be the open zone?

    badgerbater
    Free Member

I’m not sure. I was referencing Stoner’s description. There are three white dome shaped units attached to electrical wires and there are four valve units on a copper manifold with screw threads that match these units. I have yet to attach / fit the units to the manifold because of the extra valves to units (if that makes sense).
