OK, prompted by this thread I’ve just subscribed to a month’s free trial of Tidal. BTW this subscription will be £12.99/ mth from June, which is more than the pending increase to £11.99 I have for Spotify.  Didn’t realise until the payment part!  Anyway playing the same songs through Tidal and Spotify I cannot decern any difference in music quality.  As I type this, I’ve just noticed my Dac going from 44.1 to 48.0, so certain tracks are streaming in higher quality.  Anyone else perceive a difference? Streaming via Chromecast Audio.

I believe the Solo uses WiFi or cellular network. It will definitely for shared use, but with one account.

I will try the cleaning thing, but the phone charges ok and works it’s just that I get this message followed by the phone not having the ability to broadcast music, etc.

No I haven’t checked for fluff. Thanks, I’ll give it a go and report back. Just assumed it was a latest firmware update and Apple’s attempt to only have their accessories used! Charging appears to be ok though. Anyway, anything to get it performing again..!

Hi all, As posted, after selecting Ride I’ve hit the start button but clearly this has not “started” recording the ride. This is the point of my post, what am I doing or not doing to end up with the GPS not following the route (which it is) and recording the ride?

First Post disappeared, so I’m bumping this one in the hope that it posts properly!

@kneebiscuit I’m not a particularly neat writer. I always seem to want to think faster than I can write and especially when I’m using a ballpoint, I sometimes can’t read back my own writing! However, having rediscovered the fountain pen during lockdown, I find that the very act of using a fountain pen, even for desk work, is a more enjoyable experience and almost makes me want to write more legibly. Hard to explain, but I just enjoy the experience more. I’ve also taken up penning my thoughts in a journal. It’s amazing what lockdown is doing to us all, in hopefully a positive way.

My recommendation FWIW is to look the range Viking Uk do. The sweet spot will be 8×32. Decide on your budget and then shop for the cheapest price for the range you decide on. I’ve just bought a pair of Viking peregrine 8x32s and they are absolutely brilliant.

Oh, and the Kaweco Al Sport is my current writing implement and posted it’s a superb writer. And I’m a leftie with large hands. I also use Diamine ink which has also been great, with a wonderful colour choice.

The power and influence of the Singletrack Forum! Been lusting after a Pelikan M800 for over a year and after reading through this thread, thought, sod it! and ordered my grail pen! Many thanks for the push I needed! 🤗

Thanks for all the replies. The problem I have, is there is no garden, only a two car parking space. So a caravan seemed like the obvious answer. Anyway, I’m going to see one tomorrow, to get a feel for what the space would be like as a working setup. I’ll let you know how I get on. As others have said, the other benefit, is that I would be able to work from anywhere and have the benefit/possibility of beach and bike rides from my office door! Not sure I’d be able to benefit from the C2W scheme anymore!!

@paton, I’ll be sat in front of two screens and a laptop, so a comfortable office type chair is preferable to the usual caravan foam couches which I would imagine like most couches are not very ergonomically friendly. Sorry your link above doesn’t seem to connect.

Thanks for the advice @willard. I have off street parking so no issues about that. However I want it to be fairly presentable, as I don’t know what the neighbours will think of the unit parked permanently on the drive (having said that, my current next door neighbour has a large caravan on his drive and it’s only taken on trips maybe 3 times a year)! I haven’t moved in as yet, so don’t want to be labelled as the “neighbour from hell”! I’m almost tempted by a “European” version as I would ideally like the door to be on the “drivers” side of the van for the proposed location. It also needs to be relatively small i.e. two wheeled 3 berth, to fit in the space available.

OK, Chris keeps harking on about the live cameras on the BBC website between 10 and 10, but I can’t find a link on the site to these cameras. Any pointers from you lot? And yes I was looking between the said hours… Thanks 😊

Do you need planning permission, if you stuck one on your drive? Asking for a friend.

We need some clarification here. I don’t use a TV and have Chromecast Audio to stream music from Spotify (no subscription as yet, so put up with the annoying ads). I’ve got a comprehensive library of CD music on Apple music which I’ve transferred to Google Play and stream this also via the Chromecast Audio puck to my Hifi. As others have said I’ve looked at the pending closure oy Google Play and transfer to YouTube Music, but don’t seem to be able to stream music using YouTube Music via Chromecast Audio. I see there is currently a no commitment 3month free subscription to Amazon Music. So considering all the above, what are my best options? I’d prefer to go subscription free, for the time being at least.

Apologies for the thread highjack, but what is VeloViewer? It sounds like something I’d be interested in. I’ve tried to look for the app on both the Play and App Stores, but cannot find it. Can someone send a link or enlighten me? Thanks

Tried a Brompton and a Birdy back to back. Thought the Brompton was far too twitchy, but the Birdy behaves more like a conventional bike. Bought the Birdy and never looked back. A great piece of German engineering! Try both before you buy. Also better suspension and the newer models now come with disc brakes!
Edit: They are pricy, but also hold their value well. Can’t see me selling mine any time soon.

Many thanks all for your feedback and suggestions. Items on Amazon purchased. Hopefully the install won’t be as bewildering!

@CraigW thanks for your recommendations. This simplifies things somewhat. I’ve looked at the TP-Link WAP (getting used to this now!) and it appears to have a 2-port switch already in the box – Just looked up the Spec and this is described as a Passive PoE injector(?). I assume this would giver me WiFi and the Ethernet port to plug into my desktop PC; can you confirm? Would I still need the 5-Port switch with this setup?

Still confused. I’ve looked up “Wireless Access Point” and “5-port switch” on Amazon and gives me all sorts of weird and wonderful recommendations. Can someone with some tech savvy, give me a recommendation on what to buy. Many thanks; it’s been a long day…

Ok, I’ve never bought any Rapha clothing, so don’t know how this compares to Castelli clothing sizes. Is Rapha generally smaller or larger than Castelli?

@easily I agree with ‘forgotten’ but Americans never use the word ‘got’ and instead use ‘gotten’ which good English or otherwise, just makes me shudder when I see it in print or spoken; usually with an American accent!

Have we done “Gotten” can’t stand seeing the word in print or spoken. I’ve even seen it used on this forum. What’s wrong with “got”! FFS…!

Is there a reason why the Corona virus dashboard (link on page 1) is now password protected? Shame as it was a useful gauge on the situation. Hope there’s nothing more covert going on…!

Get your nearest spot height from your local OS map and use a dumpy level to transfer height difference to your ground floor. Give them this level to three decimal places; job done. I doubt they will ever check the accuracy. It should be good enough for planning and gives a tick in the box for the planners.

That Apple link is still confusing the hell out of me! Surely, if an iPad has a sim embedded in it, it should act in the same way as pairing it with a mobile phone, regarding making and receiving calls? You can tell I’m not in the comms industry!!

Ok, I followed the apple support link above to get a better understanding and now I’m more confused; easily done at Christmas! CZ, is she going to benefit from having the additional cellular feature (eg VoIP) or can these calls all be made with a conventional Wi-fi connection?
