Ernie, you could argue that equally socialism (the failure of) killed these people.
Ernie is quite correct, on the scale of economics all countries fall somewhere between free market and centrally controlled. No country is a perfect example of either.
I like the thought of socialism (it's nice and fluffy), but don't think it could ever work because of one reason; greed. Those in control will always have the most and this fundamentally ruins the whole theory (IMHO).
Classes are not something that impact my day to day. If someones a ****, I tell them "you're a ****". I don't care for their family name.

Sorry TJ, but the US is 5th place in the quality of life scale, cuba is 108th (alongside mongolia and senegal). You're wrong about this one mate. It may be sunny but for its citizens, it's a sh1thole.

hmm socialism worked well for the russians, is working well for the cubans and the north koreans.
Ernie, you're being very balanced for a change – turning over a new leaf? :D
BTW, Che was bessies with Castro. They say you can judge a lot by the company a man keeps.

I'm more afraid of new labour than tories. Both bad, but Brown is the worst leader I can remember including Thatcher. He really is that bad IMHO. Sad really.

I like it, but don't see the reason for its existance, I don't doubt that its mega fun. I'm happy to be guided on this, but why would you want a bike that rides similar to, weighs similar to and and looks similar to a 5" to 5 1/2" trail bike but with only 4"? for example, the alu SC LT2 is 1oz heavier and a far more capable bike IMHO. I think you're looking for an Intense spider2 or the new Knolly endorphin XC. Thes are not race/marathon bikes and are definately more trail orientated. I look forward to a lot more bikes like this coming out

So that makes them ~6lbs2oz? around 5oz less than a 5spot.
Less than half a pound for 1 1/2" less travel.

Aren't they supposed to be the same weight as the 5?
If so, you'd need some top drawer kit to hit 24-25lbs.
I was looking at it too but it's just too heavy for a 4" bike.

Having done some work for neath and port talbot council recently, I understand that mountain biking brings in as much revenue as the rally.
The FC have not built the trails for the sake of being nice to MTBers, someone at some time performed a business case for the benefit of the local community. The local community ARE benefitting from it and thats why the FC can't abandon the trails. If they need more revenue, they first need better and more trails. Its that easy really.

maybe we should ask Brant, Cy, mike@dialled, Lester etc.

    Fair comment Mr A.
If this is unsustainable for the FC, maybe they should shut the trail centres and cease maintaining the trails. Some would still go ride there but it wouldn't be as good. Others would go elsewhere. MTBers managed before trail cantres and could manage again. Be a shame to see the locals' new income disappear though.

People have been riding Cwmcarn for far longer than there has been signposted trails so yes I would.
Anyway, not the point. At the moment I'm happy to pay parking spend a few quid in the caff etc for the trails I ride. If the FC want to charge, then they need to improve the trails. Never mind about the bloody cafe or bike shop or showers (although theyre nice to have). I notice that there's now a hotel at afan, and lots of accommodation opening up so the local community are benefiting, which I thought was the whole point.

    Mr Salmon, there's the rub.
What the FC cannot do is start charging without first building more trails to a very high quality. Also, they need to ban walkers from them unless they are to contribute.

    WE DONT DEMAND FACILITIES!
We pay for anything extra, showers, cafe, car park, bike wash.

A better metaphor would be to put the idea of charging the walkers to use forestry land. I think we know what they'd say to that.
Edit, I don't demand facilities. I dont need showers, cafe, shop etc.
Walking paths, styes etc all require upkeep.

bentos, is the traditional way more difficult than getting a mix or is it quite manageable?

Checked the forestry commission website, which states that it's a govt department. So it belongs to the taxpayer (us), along with the forests and trails.
It also states that the foresty commission "cares for" the forests, which does not equals "owns". So, I would suggest that even though there are people willing to pay to use trails, it would be very difficult to introduce and impossible to police. Are walkers going to asked to contribute to the maintenance also, since they're also permitted on all MTB trails in Wales?

Serious question (forgive my lack of knowledge).
If the forestry commission owns the forests, who owns and funds the forestry commission?

Yarp, what I was trying to allude to. Unfortunately I do not have BDs talent with words.
I want to have intercourse with pretty much any good to fair looking woman with a good set of cans, i cannot be reprogrammed to suddenly not want to like women with big cans.
We must accept that we cannot change a peado and start controlling them more effectively.

I'll reinterate my stance that I would be prepared to pay to ride but not at the current standard of trails featured at the centres (or at least a very minimal amount).
It should also be agreed that ALL revenue from MTB centres goes directly back into the MTB trails and facilities. I'd also be willing to give some labour (perhaps a credit scheme which earns trail time?).
You will always run the risk of making it too expensive and then people will just bypass the pay station.
