when the beeb news reported this , the reporter was talking through it 🙁
back2basicsFree Member@legend = review show
the beeb will put on the full ar*e lick of hamilton as he writes for them on the bbc website anyway, and will probably feature “exclusive” interview with him on the “review show” with his usual “pretending to be humble” talk from his monte carlo mansion while showing off his newly repaired supercar. 😉
back2basicsFree Member“I don’t know the big picture and ultimately you have to rely on the engineers to give you the optimum strategy,” he told reporters after the race.”
………..Lewis……… – you gotta laugh – if you want to rely on the race engineers then stop bitchin at them on team radio that they are doing it wrong and blaming them after the race, get faster, get pole.
back2basicsFree Memberand lets not forget i said it months ago – alonso will not be in a McLaren in 2016.

imho its time anyway for the bbc to go private and advertise. the licence fee is an outmoded concept in this day an age,
back2basicsFree Memberaye – seems they have spoken to bernie already and he’s sticking firm to the original agreement they signed to take us to 2018 – saying that, thats what happened last time and then they secretly sold it out to Sky – would not surprise me if it doesnt go back to the good old days of 2 commentators watching it on TV from the UK as highlights package….
personally they could lose eddie J and suzy p, and i would not give a s***
on other news TAG leaves McLaren for red bull because its more trendy and young and happening – boy thats gotta hurt Ron!
back2basicsFree Memberinteresting to hear RBR have spent the most this season at £200million increasing their staff number by over double, makes me wonder if they planned to build their own engine all along, simple plan – destroy your current engine relationship to get out early, cry wolf about leaving and get FIA and Bernie to apply pressure to everyone and everything to give you options for building on someone elses engine (merc, ferrari, renault) and renault finally cave in (perhaps on the threat of bernie not paying them the “historic” team payment for their works team next year) and give them their latest engine to develop for next year….hmmmmmmm
back2basicsFree MemberI think for all their spin at the start of the season about the drivers being allowed to race, Mercedes really have controlled the 1-2’s as well as the internal rules around racing to the first corner and then to the first pit stop (ie. overtaking when the other car is not put in danger, then after that its hold position unless an issue) it really has taken the edge of out the season and we as spectators are always wondering if it was managed from the pit-wall….i think both drivers have suffered this year with “stay where you are” scenarios….
the only highlights for me was when Ferrari managed to get their weekend together in Malaysia and Hungary.
which is pretty crappy considering there are now more F1 races on the calendar than ever before!as i said before, i hope the gloves are off for abu dhabi, although if Merc dont have to worry about saving the engine, they might run it full power and lap the entire field up to 4th (vettel/rakki) 🙁
back2basicsFree MemberLewis just needs to accept his team orders about strategy and vent his anger to the team in private not on the podium- showing once more he just cannot take any hits to his “Image” as to why he was second.
The team wanted second in the WDC secured at the earliest opportunity, and i suspect the Nico has obeyed far more team orders in the previous races than he has wanted to, in order to ensure WDC/MDC points for Mercedes rather than “risky” attempts to win 1 race in entire season.it makes for a more interesting abu dhabi if indeed “the glove are off” now and they can both do whatever they want, because if lewis doesnt beat Nico he has no one to complain too and i think he’d take a big hit on his ego.
back2basicsFree Memberi think you all know me and my views on Lewis, but , him hitting a lamp post shows what a slow news day F1 is having this week
back2basicsFree Member…and you also missed out from the report you quoted :
“The team does not have a designated reserve driver, with only test driver Wolff and development driver Alex Lynn on their books in addition to the race drivers.”
So given that your options are – bring in a driver who has never driven the car before, or, use your TEST driver as your reserve driver…..seems straight forward to me…
anyhow, clearly Williams didnt want her to step up to a RESERVE driver either 2015 or 2016, so i dont blame her in leaving, although i am surprised she didnt go for a smaller team and at least get a race seat – but as we know, big money usually needs to go with them, and i am not sure she got any sponsors/backers….
back2basicsFree Member@nemesis, umm i think your over simplifying how Honda can claw back the massive deficit, considering neither Ferrari or Renault have been able to all season starting from 3rd position on the grid. Yes they could make up to the mid field in 2016 if everything goes ok with out of season developments, but its a law of diminishing returns – the last 1 second to make up being the hardest to find.
Button is a realist, and thats exactly how he stated it about no wins in 2016.Despite what people may think, those in the know, know that aero & chassis is totally linked to the engine, because it has to react to a lot of factors other than top speed, how the engine retards/braking, acceleration forces / pitches and kers harvesting, and of course torque.
even the best CAD modelling for the chassis and estimates of these figures from Honda cannot create the exact environment the chassis / engine combination will be running with.
so even if Honda turn up in 2016 with a mega powerful engine, there still need time to mate it to the chassis and aero package – even if McLarens current one is the best of the field in 2015 (not that i am saying it is) thats no guarantee it will mean they will fight for wins in 2016back2basicsFree MemberI’m amazed Ron’s still at McL. His intention was to buy out the Arab investors and take back the company – he has no money to do this, due to no income from sponsors, and i wonder how long he can keep blaming Honda for being at the back.
when we saw a glimpse of that Honda engine 2 races ago they were midfield at best, yet, the car still looked unstable compare to the likes of RBR and Merc – if you look at all the flaps and winglets and little aero bits on the Car, i think Ron’s view of just getting the engine power up is not going to cut it next year, when Honda can turn round and announce they have an engine with parity of Ferrari or Mercedes. (not that i think that will happen either, i think Honda will sell out end of next year)
i dont think the Mclarens have the talent in the aero department anymore, in fact thats been the case for about 3 years now.
Shame to see S. Wolff retiring – but the writing was on the wall when Williams overlooked her when Bottas hurt his back , considering she was labelled the official reserve driver. All it was , was a promo stunt for Williams (yes i know a womans in charge there too) to get more Press.
back2basicsFree MemberIMHO in a few years if McHonda look competitive he’ll be persuaded to return to them to “emulate” his “hero” Senna…. Lewis has never mentioned Ferrari at all IIRC, where-as Vettel grew up watching Schumi in a Ferrari.
I still dont believe Alonso will be in a McHonda for the first race of 2016.
back2basicsFree Member@captainflashheart has it spot on.
i bought rapha when they first started , just because i liked the understated look and quality of it, but have stopped getting anything from them for many a year, partly due to the ever increasing cost, but also because i got disillusioned with the image they are aching to create / project – especially the “limited editions” every 2 months seem a shallow marketing scam to try and bring history of exceptional races / moments in cycling into their brand at a more than premium cost.
back2basicsFree MemberHamilton defo in cruise mode – although i think he played a little game of fastest laps near the end to force a mistake so he could pass Rosberg – i do believe Mercedes want the 2nd spot all sewn up and Hamilton was not allowed to pass.
Renault takeover of lotus seems dead in the water – i suspect Bernie, annoyed that Renault would stop supplying other teams if they became a works Team, has told them they wont get the 50-odd million due as a “historical” team….
this has probably resolved the RBR situation and they will run with Renault 1 more year.Ferrari looked a disaster ! both drivers seemed to be unsettled in the car – perhaps they have stopped all work on the 2015 car and look to 2016.
McLaren took a step forward last race – and 7 back this race!
In order to change the status quo for 2016 the FIA is seriously going to have to allow pre/in season testing before next years start…..
Manor are about to die? think the Merc engine deal is dead….
back2basicsFree Membersafety car – – so we’ll see now if Lewis is under team orders to stay behind Nico so he can claim 2nd spot in the WDC…
back2basicsFree Membertotally agree @nemesis.
The FIA backed themselves into this corner allowing teams to have the power and being weak and indecisive when it came to real hard out decisions in order to control costs / direction of F1. Todt i feel always thought (like governments thought about Banks) that they would “do the right thing” by F1, and realise now its too far gone to save.
I suspect the real reason the v6 tender is for 2017 and not 2016 (which could be achievable) is to give the big manufacturers breathing room and negotiate a deal with the FIA. which again will be a half-hearted looked good on paper type deal, thats got us into the mess – the manufacturers will look after their works teams with A spec engines and everyone else will get B-spec or nothing if they start complaining, all for 10mill EU per power unit.
personally they should just drop all engine regs and instead bring in a fuel restriction per season of how much petrol/diesel they can use, and all other energies must be either gathered from the engine or braking (ie. kers/hybrid/flywheel/kenetic) during the race.
let anyone and everyone build “engines” / “pu’s”.
speeds can be controlled via tyre compound/sizes and aero regulations instead.
back2basicsFree MemberBah, i suspect tthis RBR situation is not going to come to anything – a 1 year engine contract with Renault (with clauses to not to be negative!) to give them breathing room for this new V6 engine formula in 2017 or if VW decide to come in, i also suspect that deal will come about and Bernie will suddenly agree that Renault is a historic team and pay them 50-odd million they are waiting for in order to fund the Lotus takeover/works team…
back2basicsFree MemberWilliams seem to run hot and cold with their setups – the car must be on a knife edge of performance, or, they are just going backwards and are perhaps looking at the 2016 car already.
well, thats almost 2015 titles all over, lets hope we get a 2016 start where at least 4 drivers are in with a shout of the WC and it goes right to the wire, then we can see what lewis, and all the other drivers in the hunt, are made of, instead of this domination that we have…
back2basicsFree Membercongrats to Lewis, he has been epic in that car this year, if not a little pushy towards his teammate on the track sometimes – but winners are built that way – personally Nico has been the biggest disappointment this season, i thought he could blossom outside of Schumi’s shadow but he is the new Barrichello.
no one brought up he may have been told to “slip off” and let Lewis past? ;p
sounds like were getting a new engine to line up against these Hybrids – possible the bravest thing the FIA/Bernie have ever come up with – is it sensible – time will tell – will this lead to the big manufacturers who have poured millions into hybrids getting a little miffed and leaving when they see a cheap V6 COSWORTH-MANOR pass them on the straights 🙂
back2basicsFree MemberAlso anyone notice thee poster having a left evil and right good fell to it… But… Stormtrooper are on both sides
back2basicsFree MemberNot sure about the whole Starkiller weapon thing. Kinda like one up man ship on the other films. Rotj did that a bit….
back2basicsFree Member@pigface. So your saying I should order the new films bedding and matching pillowcase with free onesie just yet B-)
back2basicsFree MemberDidn’t they discover that the first O Ring disaster the engineers had raised the issue in a memo about the problem ages before it went pop but the management said it would be ok and the cost of ree engineering the solid was to much
Then the incident of the foam padding hitting the wing at take off. Engineers put in an email they thought it was enough to rupture the Tiles. Yet again they were overruledback2basicsFree MemberGood job it wasn’t based on too real life NASA emergencies otherwise it would be a 5 year government investigation that revealed a memo from engineers state matt Damon is alive on Mars with 100 percent probability but only survive 3 months before ares 4 can land 3 years later, and the response would be “we believe it will be fine….”
back2basicsFree MemberTo the OP
too fu####ng right. Same feelings here and getting the same attitude too.
Car drivers get home 13seconds faster yet leave us thinking through the consequences of their near miss/dooring/stupid overtake …back2basicsFree MemberIt’s appeal could be in using older f1 circuits but also knowing red bull it could also introduce different types of racing in the one series for example
Hill climbing
Drifting
Ice racing in f1 style car
And the same goes for dirt out sand races
Rbr have run thier own f1 car on ice and in Texas on the race track before it was tarmac
Deep inside me wants this. But.. It’s a big big risk….back2basicsFree MemberThe lotus Renault buy out was all but a done deal 3 weeks ago until Bernie decided he was not going to pay them xx amount of millions in Historic Team payments. There will never be an rbr buyout on the cards for Renault
The interesting talk of a rival f1 series is perhaps pairing but has anyone thought that red bull could just buy f1 from CVC and just change the structure and then the rules.
Alonso staying at mclaren is utter pr nonsense at the moment. When asked about his future Alonso is not stupid to rock his boat that much just yet to say he is thinking of leaving. He is keeping all his options open if teams can run 3 cars next year!!
back2basicsFree Memberhow do you know what rechargeable batteries fit what lights when going down the china / ebay route? i’ve got a magicshine battery (and light) and want to connect a front and/or rear light to it, but not sure what connections would go with what – is there a way to tell?
back2basicsFree Member@jonba has it, same with me 75kg rider, run at about 90 front and rear, and they soak up the terrible roads here on my commute,
currently on cheap inners, but might go for latex stuff,
touching wood, p*nctures have been few and very far between
theres some interesting articles on winter tyres on road.cc if anyone want to compare….
back2basicsFree MemberButton stays at McLaren
shhhh dont tell anyone….Alonso to “new” Renault 🙂
back2basicsFree Memberagree with above – really great one this week – even Kevin was well impressed, in his top 5 didnt he say? sticks 2 fingers up all the 600,000 pound all the monye and no taste usual ones on the program.
back2basicsFree MemberThe EU thing can really cause F1 major problems, it could indeed either wipe the power base out the big teams have enjoyed (i.e rule veto) , or force F1 to not run inside the EU …
And, its not exactly great when 2 teams that are inside F1 are activley lodging proceedings against it…
i can only imagine the EU would want a 1 vote 1 team policy and fair prize money distribution, (i.e 1 WDC/WMC point = X million) – and none of this historic payment formula rubbish.
all of it shows its not a great time to be investing millions in f1….
back2basicsFree Memberno one run rings around bernie,
if red bull pull out (along with torro rosso) then its 3 car teams, and bernie has been wanting that for ages
given that
silly season would go into overloadi get dibs on Nico, Lewis, Alonso at merc 🙂 🙂
back2basicsFree Memberjeez do you guys watch f1?
merc had issue with tyre pressures at start of race 2 races ago, was going to get disqualified after race investigation but pulled the “oh but the procedure of the rule was a bit grey” and in theory they should have been removed from the race – perhaps a deal was struck then? in the “interests” of the show, let them win and they will throw the next one.
as for the agreement – nico and lauda both said on camera about an agreement that meant towards the mid-to end of last year they would not push each other off in the first ‘x’ laps of a race.
3 seconds of google searching for you

hamilton once again gets away with pushing rosberg off – considering last year they had a written agreement they would not do that in the first 3 laps but this time lewis “complained of understeer” at the exact same time nico was on the outside!
nice to see ron squirm, although a lot of talk from him i didnt really see him actually answer ANY question!
did merc throw the last race? for some reason? because they should have been disqualified from the previious race with the tyre issue – did they make some kind of backhand agreement to not finish in the top 3 ?
