It would be both. there are no barriers to iScotland joining the EU and the EU would love to have us

That is if Scotland manages to pull this off before there is a new Spanish government. If the other party wins the next elections (which is a 50/50 toss up), then they’ve already said they would veto a “speedy” application. Something pro-independence voters conveniently ignore.

Now that the negotiations are over, it is very likely the EU will adopt the stance of “We will let the United Kingdom sort itself out, if iScotland happens, we will consider its application”.

Then there is the “love to have us”, well iScotland will be an new nation with a new economy and new currency, of Gdp £200 Billion, of which its biggest trading partner is…the UK.

I think they where spun far too eagerly in the media… the way they were presented invites justifiable cynicism. Being ready with overflow field hospitals was shown to be necessary by the countries hit hard before us though… they were a sensible, if oversold, precaution… don’t you think?

I think they were necessary (I kind of touched on it before), I also think it was an excellent chance for the government to show preparedness and being proactive. On the other hand, the preparedness at every other level, seemed completely insufficient, given that there were other countries in Europe (and also outside) from which they could have applied the “lessons learnt”.

    @kelvin

Maybe this pandemic has made me far too cynical.

The truth is the Nightingale/DH centres weren’t really for what the public were told they were for. I’m trying to avoid hyperbole, but based on my Wife’s experience in work they never had the staff for them and frankly little effort was made in the Summer to up-skill staff or recruit former medics with ITU experience. My Wife has been asked to work on a COVID ward / DH a couple of times, she’s a Community based wound specialist, she hasn’t worked in a hospital for years.

Identical comments have been made by my partner. They have barely enough staff to cover hospitals. They’ve each been asked to do a month in a “covid ward”.

Similar to what you said. My believe is the Nightingale hospitals were overflow facilities in case this pandemic ended up being worse than it was (also a PR move without a doubt).

Thanks @TiRed all is good now thankfully.

Baboonz did she have 2 positive tests? If not, then you’ll never know.

Well for the first one she never got a test because testing nhs personnel was a low priority, however I had to take her for half a day to the hospital since she was getting worse and the consultant said she was 99% sure it was COVID. The timing fit perfectly when she had unknowingly been exposed to a COVID positive patient in inadequate circumstances.

For the second one she did get a positive from test and trace.

Another of her friends who works in ICU London also reported having COVID twice with similar symptoms.

For whoever asked about getting COVID twice. My partner first got it in April/march (can’t really remember), had textbook symptoms. She then got it a second time some weeks ago, this time it was dizziness, headaches and cough. Whilst she recovered from both she did say the second time seems to have worse after effects than the first one.

Maybe she got the new strain of COVID the second time round, who knows, the joys of being in a COVID ward and paying a tenner in parking a day.

FYI: “I am pleased to inform you that your application under the EU Settlement Scheme has

If you were within the UK on the date of your application, you have been granted
Indefinite Leave to Remain. If you were outside the UK on the date of your application,
you have been granted Indefinite Leave to Enter. This means that you have a secure

You can continue (as set out in the important information below) to:
    work in the UK

It is a relatively simple process, but already my Finnish wife has been asked to provide evidence of settled status (which you cannot, as there is no documentation provided)

Yeah that is annoying. You get an e-mail saying, “hey you have given settled status”, and also, “hey this e-mail is not evidence of it”. Thanks.

Other EU staff have had to go thru expensive and awkward bureaucratic processes which quite honestly is embarrassing.

What is this expensive process? So far gov.co.uk only mentions the pre-settled/settled status

    https://www.gov.uk/settled-status-eu-citizens-families

It took my an afternoon to sort it out, and when I had some questions the person at the phone was extremely helpful…

EU would have Scotland back happily

This was the message from the EU during the Brexit talks to weaken UKs position. I personally don’t think it’s as easy as the SNP would let you think.

There’s also Spain‘s position on this, which only recently changed, however depending on the weakest leader the Spanish government has seen in its short democracy seems rather risky, as he is known for flip flopping and playing both sides without batting an eye. His only redeeming quality as a leader is being tall and good looking. The position of the other major part (PP) is that Scotland would have to go through the whole process as a new nation.

Brexit has taken the better part of 4 years, yet somehow Scottish independence would take less? Let’s not forget the SNPs process is leaving the UK to then quickly return to the EU. That is way more moving parts than Brexit.

Germany is a better place to be a worker than the UK no doubt (where isn’t?),

You should get out of the UK a bit more just to realise how good you have it here.

    Likewise Horizon 2020 replacement

The door is open for us to take part but we will have to pay in as associate members and can see that being a casualty of our jingoistic MPs & press, they’ll need a new target to attack.
Interestingly we are staying in Euratom, which is overseen by dreaded ECJ

Thanks. I suspect they will continue to participate once this is sorted, it’s not just universities who participate in those projects (as you probably know), its big companies and smes. Whilst the Erasmus touches on the immigration topic, I can’t think of any barrier (other than money) that would prevent uk from rejoining this programme.

That put-down will keep me chuckling all through today and tomorrow. 🤣

Good on ya and merry Xmas.

Not when I did it in 1990. Must have changed by the time you did it (I am assuming you have first hand knowledge).

Lol I wasn’t even born then. I actually grew up in a Spanish town that was the target of a lot of Erasmus students and it’s students also went abroad. I never participated in Erasmus myself.

it is not, as many are reporting, merely a university programme.

I didn’t know this. Thanks for the lengthy explanation.

On another note, is the UK also out of the research collaboration programme (horizon 2020 and so on?)

Just checked the Spanish main news outlets, the deal (or any news about it) is barely even covered. Shows how much this has been a France and Germany issue, rather than an EU issue.

I live in an area like that and I’ve never needed more speed(50 down 18up). Best thing is if they could do a ookla speed test checker(or take your laptop and do it there). Maybe the current owners havent got a contract for higher speeds?

Do you think all your customers understand exactly what you mean and none of them are ever going “bloody hell, 12 weeks to do that – I thought it would be a day and half”.

You are missing the point. The company quoting the OP are avoiding this information

    baboonz

they can’t really tell me exactly where the time will be allocated and also why it is so expensive, i’ll be managing it in terms of taking off orders, updating stock etc…

This seams somewhat shady. When we quote for projects(research) you will get a breakdown of milestones/tasks and justification of why they may take longer.

Levi have a fit for all shapes and sizes. Go to one of those big stores with all their models and try them on. Not all 511 (or whatever model it is you are after) are the same, as materials change between sub-models.

Hose down after ride since bike stays indoors.

wipe down chain and mech if necessary.

Wipe down suspension components again if necessary.

If bike stayed in garage I would only clean the functional components.

If your lucky and the trails are frozen, then I probably wouldn’t even touch the bike.

There are already shortages of computer components at a consumer level, PSU’s CPUS’s, GPU’s, Monitors.

CPUs were already in that state pre-covid.

Monitors are widely available, just maybe not the exact one that you want.

Not enough GPUs were manufactured with the release of the 3XXX series to match the demand.

    This is worldwide.

In fact I just checked in amazon, if I wanted to build a pc tomorrow I’d only struggle finding a current gen GPU.

Prices of SSDs and RAM are still below what they were in 2017…….

He really is the gift that keeps on giving. The name of the project is just glorious “the Peace and Justice project”, that’ll make sure that everyone associated with it gets warm and fuzzy inside. This comes across as the parody of a TED talk.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the console version has stuff tuned to med/low. On those settings the game looks like GTA5 which is a much older game.

Apparently some of the video card drivers (especially Nvidia ones) were working a bit clunky with Cyberpunk. A fresh install of the drivers seems to solve it. My friend went from 20fps to 100fps with that. I don’t know how this will affect consoles though.

The good thing is that CDprojekt are known for fixing their stuff and all this will probably get ironed out.

I read somewhere that this year there was also a really nasty flue going on at the start of the year (which was not COVID).

Partner who is a nurse most likely has.

First time (around April I believe) she had all the symptoms whilst I had almost none, and when she went to get checked, they couldn’t test her (since she’s not a footballer), but told her they were 99% it was Covid.

Second time was some weeks, ago, she wasn’t feeling great, we both got tested in the test and trace facilities, she got positive and I got negative.

What’s even more bizarre, is that a friend who lives outside the UK, has also likely had Covid twice. With symptoms very similar to my partners at also similar times.

The first time, the main symptom was severe breathing problems and tiredness. The second time, it was dizziness and pain in the lungs, but much milder than the first time.

Going to wait until the devs fix the large amount of bugs that are inevitable with large openworld rpg titles. This title is meant to be the one they don’t rush, and nothing (of value) gets cut.

Unlike the (cut) Novigrad pestilence main quest in the Witcher 3, that was meant to be linked with the last Keira Metz side quest.

I would not be surprised if some of the “rush” and delays are due to releasing the game as a crossgen title.

I’m not familiar with the current batch of apple laptops, but they were really good value before the touchbar nonsense(Prices got “updated” when these released). Especially for students, you could get a 13 inch one at a discount and it would reliably last you your whole degree. Something that windows laptops never seemed to do. My 2012 retina only just died, after years and years of abuse. My partners 2014 Macbok Air is still going and doesn’t show signs of wear.

One of the reason why people suggest Apple stuff, is because it works, and it generally does it very well. From the build quality, components, software to the end user experience.
