    Ratio is 7.75mi/£ for 98 and 8.66mi/£ for 95.

Maths says the cheaper is better. Anyone is welcome to shoot down my maths (especially since I can’t be arsed to show working..)

after messing about for ages making crap homemade burgers i’ve found one ingredient sorts any binding issues with shop bought mince: tomato puree. Coincidentally it makes them proper yummy :D

    ingredients:
    500g mince (makes 4 burgers)
    1 egg yolk
    Black pepper
    2 tbsp tomato puree
    1 smallish finely chopped onion
seasoning to taste (I usually end up going for 2 tsp of bbq seasoning)

Mix together by hand, part into 4 balls. Oil up hands to make forming patties easier and make them slightly bigger than the bun they’re set to go into. don’t bother sticking them in the fridge, just whack them straight on a hot grill. NOM

As soon as a bbq gets mentioned someone asks if I’m making them.

Coincidentally, a couple of mates ended up doing something the other day that I was going to suggest to you lot.
A burger with two Chicago town pizzas as the bun, it’s either pure evil or the most beautiful thing in the world… I’m currently undecided

It could possibly be the arms on your disk brake rotors hitting the pads? You might want to check how much the caliper sits over the rotor.

I tend to stick to a lot of Vertigo titles as i’m not really big on the archetypal superhero comics, though they can be fun, e.g. Marvel Zombies and the Marvel Civil War volumes (as a side note, i give it 5-10 years and Marvel will be making a movie out of both of these, they’re already converging on the Avengers movie)

I’ve REALLY been enjoying Fables, it’s an incredible story that just keeps getting better! (just finished book 11) the Sandman is also a pretty good series to get your teeth into.

Watchmen is a damn good bit of writing, and reading it makes the movie significantly better. And a couple of more non mainstream comics being Maus and Bone are definately worth a read

oh and if you’re looking for a shorter story with beautiful visuals i can gladly recommend WE3

some of the other suggestions on this page thus far are also definitely worth a good look :-)

I’ve worked in pet insurance (Tesco) for a summer job a few years back, and can gladly state that 90% of the time pet insurance is a sham.

The premiums SERIOUSLY ramp up once the pet reaches 8 years of age to the point that had you been putting the premiums from the first 8 years of the pets life, you would be more that capable of paying any vets bills that arise. Adding to this the £4000 1 year limit to ongoing claims on individual conditions and you’re buggered after a year with no paying out for the pet and a massively increased premium.

The only ones worth going for are the proper lifetime cover policies. DO NOT use Tesco

go for a pair of CX300 Mk2, they got rid of the flimsy join in the Mk1s and have a solid rubber part instead now, much better! they do sound pretty awesome too, plenty of base for those that want it :)

EDIT: +1 for using a reputable seller, i’ve been stung by fakes on ebay before…

last friday on the commute home i saw another cyclist (not the usual BSO type) merrily cycling on the pavement in the opposite direction, that was until someone in a car opened their door into him. He seemed fine, but it looked like his front wheel was properly trashed. I rarely take pleasure from the misfortune of others, but when you’re doing something illegal/dangerous i do reserve the right to chuckle

All i’m hearing is good things about superstar wheels at the moment, the new EVOs got a good write-up in MBUK recently.

The only negative i’ve heard is that the superleggera hubs occasionally throw a wobbly with the hub engagement, but they’re not on these wheels! I know i’ll be stumping for an EVO set when i’ve got the spare cash..

Well i'll definately plump for the M520s then. If they're as good as you all say at that price point i can hardly say no!

Hmm, now to find nice shoes… i know i can't afford proper winter boots, and i'll avoid canvas/suede as you say foxy.

i'll nip to the local LBS and have a good look for a pair that actually fits, not risking the internet with sizing, particularly if shimano are dodgy with sizing

    Ta!

I'm glad you've mentioned Godwin's Law, first thing i thought of when i heard that idiotic statement! Taking into consideration the concordat, it further reveals some pretty hefty hypocrisy.

Oh well, at least he's lost the argument by default now. (are we right to call this argument a win now? "we" being British atheists of course)

Retro83, i was expecting somebody to drop something like that, but not so quick, BRAVO!
Yeah the shorts have definately sorted out the numbness issues, so i'll definately be using them for the forseeable future.
I'll definately look into some pearl izumi and endura shorts. Thing is i'd toyed with the idea of buying some pearl ones a while back from my LBS but balked a little because of the cost (still paying off the student overdraft and JUST breaking even supporting me and the Gf) ta guys!

Depends on the application, generally for the same volume of material a larger diameter tube is more rigid torsionally as well as in tension/compression. However this does reduce the wall thickness and increases the chance of denting and crushing.

The walls of some roadbike tubes are ridiculously thin for this reason!

It's £7.50 a month to uncap your limit on sky, we did it as 2Gb is utterly taking the piddle.
With that we worked out that it's still cheaper than going elsewhere just for the broadband (circa £10pcm for others as said above)

Sky did this knowing full well that they could advertise a very high speed with a very limited service for free then have their proper unlimited broadband at a small premium, cheeky buggers!

he's frequently acted up on this forum when people commented on his "reconditioned" bikes that looked gopping. That and he acted like the sun shone out of his arse…
But if he's providing something better for a reasonable price then buy them, certainly at half price!

Pop the rear shock out and slowly put the rear end through its full travel by hand. If it's a smooth actuation then you should be good, if it's notchy/rough then it's time to think about replacing the bearings. That's the method i use anyway, you could also check the manufacturers lit for information, and Specialized do have a Q&A section on their site.

All in all i've found sheffield not to be too bad if you're careful. You get some proper idiots about, but they seem to have a natural focus point of the university ring road roundabout and the M1 roundabout next to Meadowhall
Almost got smooshed by a truck pulling up to a set of lights i was waiting at on the M1 roundabout yesterday. Only stopped when he heard me shouting "fuuuuuuuuuccckkkk!" and then looked at me as though it was my fault! Those who drive for a living are usually the real dangers!

I found patience and knowing their route to be pretty effective.

Our "little visitor" ran across the skirting board and up a little step to get through our living room to our kitchen. I proceeded to test how willing they are to change this route by placing a piece of cardboard in front of the step.
this lead to *skitter skitter BANG skitter skitter* it ran clean into it and back the opposite way in a shamefaced manner. turns out once they have a path they rarely deviate…

following this we put a sticky trap down and got the bugger (this was humane, putting veggie oil on the trap removes its stickyness and it can get off harmlessly) we took it out to the peaks and released it, albeit with a message: you come to ours and we'll grease you, set you out in the middle of nowhere and leave you to the birds… i think is understood…

i'm liking that a good half of the people are going the ghetto route. can't stand hair dressers, making small talk with somebody i have nothing in common with for 10 minutes is not something i call enjoyable. And when i bothered with growing hair they never did it right…

+1 for the missus with clippers nowadays :)

was wondering how long it'd be before MTFU is uttered :P

thankfully i'm not cramping up during rides, that'd kill me!
i thought it was as much, i generally drink loads of water through the day and not very much during the evening. i'll try to get a pint in before i go to bed in future!

hmm… interval training… that's planned for a couple of weeks time, i'm gonna leave it till my base fitness is getting properly there!

    cheers for the responses!

@gonfishing why are you assuming that the force required to break a carbon component will break that of a metal component? it relates down to specific stiffness, material UTS figures and geometry, and without quoting those that argument is fairly redundant.
Anyway when a steel fails it fails progressively and plasticly, this act dissipates energy, mitigating (arguably minutely) any failure. carbon fibre failure modes are poorly understood and catastrophic with zero plastic flow, do with that what you will…
oh and putting a small ding in steel/alu isn't the end of the world, whereas with carbon you get all sorts of nasty effects such as debonding, crack initiation and delamination.

    B_Leach

Yup from an engineering perspective it's the ratio of stiffness to density that's desireable, it's neither stiffer than steel, or lighter than aluminium!
