i rode it from edinburgh to santiago about eight years ago . it was great but i did it out of season in October , November and December . then rode to porto for a fortnights holiday then cycled back to Santander and ferry home . it was much nicer cycling in France , Spain and Portugal than it was in englandshire where i was pretty much abused as a vagrant

i have a few knives of various types by various manufacturers some commercial and some home spun like Daftvader . his custom blades are excellent and are good value for money . His prices are not at all unreasonable if you consider his time and effort i’ll bet very few on here would work for his hourly rate .a friend of mine has just paid £500 for a Jacklore knife at the weekend and i didn’t think it was any better than the knives produced by DV . Sandy at jacklore is the first to admit that his knife is essentially a copy of the woodlore knife designed by Ray Mears . so what makes a jacklore worth up to a thousand dollars? when Tim charges a mere £150 for a full custom design .

in the current market one from a freelander is probably worth £17.50 if it is oem if it is after market it is worth about a quid as scrap . ebay is more likely now . they have some palladium in them although this is now starting to be replaced with ceramics making them worthless as scrap

“The Exped downmat is definitely the most comfortable and warmest. A bit of a pain blowing it up though, but hey, you’ve nothing better to do whilst waiting for the water to boil.”
the newer down mats come with a bag/inflator, three pumps and it is good to go . i must admit i love mine but various people including my son have had problems with them delaminating .now me being a fat bastid i reckoned mine would be a nap to go but so far (two years + ) it has been flawless .

As Druidh really i have the Pentlands on the door step . Also the east Lothian coast. There is a lovely little spot down at Gullane Point which is only half an hour from home on the road but by going coastal i can stretch that out to a good couple of hours . Got to love any chance for a night out
