She has a genetic advantage, so what? Why are we punishing her when we celebrate Usain Bolt, he has the ACTN3 gene which allows muscles to respond quicker and Michael Phelps produces less lactic acid than your average individual. Surely if we expect Caster to medicate to suppress her natural advantage then it should be extended to those who also have an advantage in their sport
aweeshoeFree MemberMy leg looks like it been bitten by a massive snake 😂 (it feels like it too 😔) I’m going to tell the kids it’s hiding in a cupboard and hopefully the house will stay tidy for at least a week 😊
@tinribz that lot should keep you busy
@redthunder Cool, thank. I’ve just got a set of watercolour pencils, I just need some nice paper and inspiration 😊
@twinw4ll I certainly need some practice, the last time I tried I almost broke my neck when my arms gave way 😂 It’s a great idea. I’ve never been in a gym but I can blast the monkey bars, I used to do a bit of freerunning but it’s slowed to a stroll. It’s a shame we lose these skills as they’re great for strength and agilityaweeshoeFree MemberI’ve been getting really quite into knitting, more so than I expected.
Honestly? I sat on my needles and impaled myself not for the first, but for the second and third time! I thought I’d put it safely in the basket but the kittens decided to play hide and seek with it, I found it stuck through my thigh with at least 3 inches poking out the top, along with the cushion they hid it under stuck to my backside. Not one to panic and not wishing to spend the night in A and E, I thought I’d have a wee whisky while I inspect the damage.
I changed my mind as soon as I stood up and decided the best place to review my situation was lying on the floor googling the major arteries and veins, it confirmed that it would be at least a few weeks before I died of starvation because I was being such a woose. I managed to withdraw the two pricks from my thigh, without tears or bloodshed. Needless to say I won’t be doing that again 😂
aweeshoeFree MemberPeople with autistic traits should to a certain extent train themselves to understand social conventiones, even if they seem nonsensical. I know I did this and live a much happier life
<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>How do you teach a blind person to see? I have prosopagnosia (facial blindness) which means that I can’t read people’s emotions unless it’s obvious because they’re shouting or crying. </span>
Autistic people are generally quite accepting Of NT traits and make many allowances for their behaviour, yet they don’t reciprocate despite having the capacity to do so. This is where things like Autism Awareness fail, I think it’s only so that NT’s can make more money out of it there’s no way we’re anywhere near acceptance.
@Kelron I totally agree with you, I like loud music, busy places and socialising (although I don’t have any friends to socialise with) whereas it’s assumed that people with ASC don’taweeshoeFree MemberHe said “Don’t you feel lonely living in your own little world?”
She whispered “Don’t you feel powerless living in other people’s worlds?”

aweeshoeFree MemberThe word marathon has two definitions:-
Long distance running race of specifically 26 miles and/or difficult long lasting task or activity.
So regardless of whether you were doing it competitively or for charity you’re still entering a marathon and the organisers should allow sufficient time for people to complete it, they’re happy to take the ridiculous amount of cash for the pleasure
aweeshoeFree MemberThe theories of autism explained :-

The Multiple Hits Theory
The Connective Theory
The Female Protective Effect
The Extreme Male Brain
The Predictive Coding Theory
Serotonin’s Link
aweeshoeFree MemberIs there anyone who can out smart and out manoeuvre Araya? She’s awesome.
I left pinch marks on the sofa and all of that was going on and Bran slept through it 😂
aweeshoeFree MemberI fractured my sciatic joint and was in constant pain, taking strong painkillers but they weren’t even touching it. I had the guided cortisone injection and less than a week later I was fine. It’s still gets a bit uncomfortable occasionally but nothing a bit of stretching doesn’t sort out and it’s been ok now for 10yrs.
Be warned it’s a massive needle, but you don’t feel anything but a bit of pressure. I’d advise that afterwards you get someone to pick you up at the door, I tried to walk to the car park (morphine is great) but regretted it pretty quickly.
aweeshoeFree Member“They don’t listen”
I do.
I am.
I understand people’s good intentions by saying that you should “talk to someone” (as long as it’s not them) or “seek help” (you’re ****) I’ve asked for help, friends dismissed it and professionals just want to make money out of misery. It left me feeling worse than I did before. I’ve found that I’ve opened up to the wrong people, they’ve either not been able to cope or manipulated me.
So if you are in a position where you are willing to reach out to someone, give them some of your time and ask them if thing’s are ok and then listen, only offer advice if asked. Don’t expect to sort someone’s life out over one pint or bike ride, they may need more time and if you can then give it. You don’t have to be good friends, or even an aquaitence to make a difference, just a decent human being.
aweeshoeFree MemberThat was early Finiflex, before Chis Connelly left to join The Revolting Cocks and Ministry; so do we get to claim them too?
Chris Connelly was a massive influence on what emerged as techno and was an inspiration for creation of Pure, which brought all sorts of styles of music together to dance to and of course

aweeshoeFree MemberIn fairness to the woman I think that giving birth would be the only thing on her agenda at that time, and really the onus is on the guy to have done the decent thing and given her a bit of respect and not the woman who is in shock and labour.
aweeshoeFree MemberThis is the first track from the new label AFT and a top bloke, I like it and I think you should too 😀
aweeshoeFree MemberI meant to say that I hope that your cat gets better soon and that you don’t have anymore problems, but I deleted that bit by accident, doh
aweeshoeFree MemberLast summer my cat’s eyes and nose kept swelling up, I took her to the vet thinking she had allergies but nothing showed up in tests and antihistamines didn’t work. It was when I was scrolling through the local fb page when I saw that a neighbour was delighted to find something that kept cats out of her garden, it was pepper spray! A wee visit from the police (it’s classed as an offensive weapon) and the SSPCA and the “allergy” cleared up
aweeshoeFree MemberI’m another one who is on the fringes and never fitted in, it’s a lonely place to be and I reached out to someone I thought was a friend but was told that I’m a drama queen (among other insults, and this person wants to be a special needs mtb coach!) . I no longer have any friends to turn to when I’m down as I’m autistic, and reluctantly beginning to accept that I won’t ever be
aweeshoeFree MemberI don’t think technology is itself to blame, how we use it reflects social attitudes towards commercialism, inclusion and status. For myself it’s a lifeline where I can communicate to such diverse network of people, whereas I can’t in my physical life.
A month before he killed himself my dad came home in tears saying that he’d made a mistake and had to speak to my mum, he never spoke to anyone about it despite having a lot of good friends. A week after my 17th birthday I had an argument with him and told him where to go, the next morning he decided to take the day off work as he had a headache and went to put his van in the lockup. He was found 4 days later, then buried on Christmas eve.
It’s not the memories which hurt but the social stigma it attached to those who were left behind did. It’s not talked about, even as a family and my mum was a therapist!
I’ve felt a sob rise a few times reading this thread, some of you are having such a rough time and others have been so thoughtful and taken time out to let someone know that they care and to just listen. Unfortunately it’s rare, it takes a lot of courage to talk of the difficulties you are having, and too many dismiss concerns or issues as drama or chin up if you’re feeling not worthy.
aweeshoeFree Member@scott_mcavennie2 *hugs*
I was the last person to speak to my dad before he killed himself. I was a teenager at the time and I’d told him to **** off. Be kind, ask and listen to those close to you
aweeshoeFree MemberPhew passed the test 😊 I couldn’t remember the last part of it’s name. It’s a striking wee plant, I love the bold blue shades it has
aweeshoeFree MemberI ride as much as I can, but not as much as I’d like. I’m lucky to get a chance once or twice a month 😔
aweeshoeFree Member@kerley I quite often associate people with places or activities so if I cease visiting then I don’t see them again either. There’s very few people with whom I’ve connected and become what I thought was friends and only one of which I keep in touch with.
I’ve read a wee bit too 😊, it’s interesting seeing a philosophy develop over centuries. On the friendship theme I’ve touched on Confucius, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and Nietzsche, do you have any reading suggestions @esme?”
” (Friendship is) … most necessary with a view to living. For without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods; even rich men and those in possession of office and of dominating power are thought to need friends most of all” Aristotle
aweeshoeFree MemberIt’s an extremely thoughtful and benevolent thing to do. It was ideas like this which prompted Quakers to form the first banks, until the corporation act came into force changing them from family businesses who acted on morals to shareholders who chased profits.
The last thing you want, I guess, is to cause arguments so don’t lend money you can’t afford to lose and either be strict on what circumstances people can use it for, or let it be accessed when needed or wanted without question.
I don’t think GoFundMe will hold money for long after the campaign target has been reached but it would be worth emailing them. How about a credit union or charity?
aweeshoeFree MemberYou know where you are with a routine, eh? As long as it’s my routine and any changes are instigated by me, it’s all cool 😉
With socialising I’m the opposite, I prefer clubs and parties than one to one. The pressure is off in a crowd, 9 seconds of eye contact then you’re free to look over their shoulder or stare at their shoes and move on. I’ve learned to make small talk, like when talking about the weather it’s not necessary to comment on the clouds or low pressure above Iceland and that Farrow and Ball is the way to cover your walls.
But one to one, that terrifies me. You have to be everything then, you have to get it right. I’ve got prosopagnosia, or facial blindness which means that I not only do I not recognise people but that I can’t read intent or emotion. I don’t get a lot of jokes, I miss sarcasm and lies, until much later than anyone else would as I go by the inference of the words and tone of voice. It either leads me to being highly inappropriate or easily manipulated
