Right ovens…you need to check he rating of the oven s most cannot be run off a ring main in the Uk. They need a dedicated supply at a higher rating. A conventional oven point has the main feed switch and an aux 240v socket. sometimes the feed for the oven comes out of a fused spur (as you describe it hole) where a cable would exit (to the oven). I assume the rating is lower on this oven looking at your plug. That does not look BSI uk standard to me.

As regards cabling yes green/yellow is definitely the earth. Originally single phase supply was red for live and black for neutral. New uk std then went to Brown for live and Blue for neutral.

It is the pedal crank on this…

the shaft or spline for the pedal slides on to the crank for the pedal (left I think) and is retained (stopping the crank working its way off the spline shaft) with an end cap (this has the torque setting and has the stripped thread). The is an allen bolt grub screw binding the crank to the spline and that is ok but will not hold it on without the end cap.

One thing everybody has forgotten is cost?

FS carbon bike (which was quoted in the OP) is about £2k+

Many have not got that dosh or want to spend that sort of dosh therefore hardtails make the sport accessible to many. You can have just as much fun on a HT at a fraction of the cost.

Pick the right frame material and even fully rigid works (steel takes out some of the 'buzz')

To get a FS to a decently low weight you are talking carbon or light alu frames at more than a grand a throw. You can build a SS or HT for about £300 – £500 easy and it will not be that much worse than your £2k+ bikes.

I bought the bike below 2nd hand for example for £350!

For me (only my opinion) Full sus = armchair!

The 'lets make it as easy as possible' runs out when you think well if that is the case lets get a trials motorbike or a jeep etc (make it even easier)? Or alternatively lets go on the road; no bumps!

Psyche, I don't know if you re still looking at this post but events have changed and I might consider accepting £300.

There I one other fault with the bike, the crank came off the spline and the retaining end cap has unscrewed itself. This has a torque setting and it looks like the thread has stripped so I/you would need to get a replacement. Not sure where we could source this. I would not accept a further price reduction for this BTW 😉

well I didn't put on here with the express view to sell but to see if people could advise me of my options especially the break option (and sell the reminder).

£300 would be the absolute minimum and I must admit I would be loath to sell it at that considering in one year I would be getting less than half original price.

I have already been in yesterday and he saw me then so to turn around and say 'well actually I was unfit for work and I am not coming back in' would be difficult.

    Who gave the extra week?

I had no advice and learnt via internet not to go to my GP for fear of infecting everyone else. Therefore I just sat out the worst of the symptoms.

How did you find the DMR tensioner to set up – I had problems with mine (getting enough tension on it)

I think the knee thing is a misnomer 😉

Never had any problems with mine and now over 45!

I loved SS soon as I tried it and found it quite liberating never having to worry about if you are in the right gear. You can lose that ghost shifting, gear crunching feeling behind 🙂

And think of all the weight saving and maintenance free riding you can do.

If the hill is too steep just get off and walk

    Hi Fitzy…sounds like a real bummer ;-(

I am just about to split 9I think) with my wife. We have 3 kids after 17 years of marriage. She has lost the plot and is going through some mid life crisis. She is currently on her 4th affair to my knowledge!

I desperately love the kids and do not want to end despite her behaviour but I have to face facts that the marriage and relationship are unrepairable.

Go for a rucksack or large camelbak rather than panniers.

Try to carry as less as possible but I do take a full set of clothes for each day. This idea of dropping all the shirts on Monday means one less commuting day 🙂

    nice one munqe-chick…yes I agree 🙂

The thing is I always thought I was fast …

No matter how fast you think you are there is always someone faster (in this case quite a few faster) 😉

yes depending on the terrain SS need not be slower…

the SS are different, one is a 29er the other a 26er

ok lets look a bit closer…additional maintenance for the car due to extra mileage (i.e. oil change), more car tyres in the waste stream, more air pollution due to exhaust fumes, more traffic (causing more pollution due to congestion

    On the +ve side…
rider is fitter thereby avoiding hospital bills, and carbon footprint, less dependent on the state, works longer and is therefore more productive, is happier (slimmer and fitter).

playing slow and low with promise of spin later 🙂

I think England will take them and I like the balance of the side…

    question marks remain on…

This event was a blast…got back tonight very tired but very happy. The course was fast singe track with some rises in places but mainly level. The gravel/slate type substrate made for a sketchy experience in cornering etc. The bumpy ride made it a little tough on the old never regions if you did not get the timing right with the pedaling!

We did 13 laps in the 6 hours of about 5 miles long. Most times for the lap were 24min – 28 min. I used my geared Fs Klein throughout even though I took both my single speed rigid bikes (kona cindercone and kona unit 29er). I just didn’t feel the bumpy surface would suit fully rigid and the fast grass sections would ‘kill’ my single speeds.

Thanks plop and buzz…sounds cool! I am really looking forward it as it is my first race/event ever.

I am a little senior in years and not the fastest carrying about a stone too much (13st 5 10 and 45 years old). i am just going to take part really not seriously trying to win the thing 🙂

thanks for the comment about the terrain because I didn’t know what Fowlmead was like; does not look like it is conducive to single speed then?

I need to sort the bikes out…I have 3 one with gears that slip under load (presumably wear) another with a badly balanced back wheel and loose chain (SS) and another SS 29er which is ok but I just need to fix the puncture!
