Shraeder I more robust and more flexible. you can use car type pumping devices like foot pumps on them.

I got Shraeder on my cyclocross 700c wheels so yes you can get them for road tyres.

Never had a problem with not having a lock ring TBH

Presto seem so flimsy and easy to bend!

I think on reflection the SS way of life or thinking is against organised or HRM interval training. Generally the more cycling you can do the fitter you get however a training plan does keep to the straight and narrow 🙂

I can alternate between different bike with different ratios and also different terrain to stimulate shorter and longer or easier and harder rides.

As a previous poster said strength is different to fitness and SS makes you ‘stronger’ but not necessarily fitter than geared bikes.

I do always on the road. I thought it dangerous at first but now I have taught myself to look more…I can really get in the zone when training with the i pod with some Pendulum or fat boy slim blasting out. I believe it makes me cycle faster!

    Never tried it off road…

The thinking is now that you need a high carb (low GI) meal in you before 20 – 4o mins is past after the ride. This will aid recovery.

can you recommend me a tensioner?

SS I think makes you ‘stronger’ but not nessarily fitter. Gears gives you the facility to ‘wimp’ out and change down when the going gets tough; with SS you have nowhere to go.

I have tried changing routes and swapping between a road SS and a cyclo cross SS with a lower gear.

I just wondered how those dedicated SS riders manage to do their training?

I wore shorts in china and it got down to -12 deg C however that was not by design (I didn’t take any tights with me).

now back in the UK I have been using bib tights through December and January just through comfort. Bib tights do wind me up – how do you go for a leak without stripping off completely!

I am not sure there’s any connections between cold knees and them not working?

I agree in part with the statement that you just pedal faster to keep warm however if you get stranded or need to fix a puncture you can get cold very quickly.

TBH MTBs do not need discs either…cantis or vs are perfectly acceptable. More sophistication and technology for us to part with our well earned dosh!

I love this thread…I have some money (at last) and was thinking of Ti but I am not racing it (not fit enough) so I was wondering which would be best as an all round bike (might be my only bike).

Will have you the airborne still for sale?

Try chopped veg such as carrot sticks, celery and cucumber. you can combine these with dips.

The other options is soups. These are excellent in winter and can be thick. You can combine bread with these or leave the bread out. You can make your own or buy the cheap ones (in cans) or expensive ones (fresh in packets such convent garden). My favs are leak & potato, pumpkin and chicken & sweetcorn.

    just some ideas…;-)

Am I missing something here…seems to me the only advantage for tubeless is less punctures but wait a minute…to puncture a normal tubed wheel you need to pierce both the tyre and the tube however to puncture ‘tubeless’ you need to puncture only the tyre! Does not this mean it is easier to puncture with tubeless (and more difficult to repair)?

I think I might just do that..modern konas don’t even come close – I had an alu one and even the new steel kona unit is not as good!
