Langy, at last, a fellow tell-ier speaks up! I used to Alpine – taught for a living for several years, but met a lovely lady (now my wife) who could do this amazingly graceful style of skiing – Telemarking. She taught me and I've been dropping the knee and still falling over (!) for nearly 10 years now.
Deep snow and tele-ing is a match made in heaven. But to return to the original post, a full week with an instructor for a fit sporty "bloke" should do it, but there are no guarantees!

Stoner, I'm loving that. I had something similar made up from cheap n cheerful tent pegs and a "hexy" block; light, simple and aaaaah the smell! Takes me back.

I use Felco's at work most days in yeuch conditions and often cutting roots covered in mud – not nice. Still going strong 3 years-ish on and only sharpened once a year, wd40'd every day though!

As a wee side note, closest (1 hr away!) "proper" camera shop has them in at £399, but found them on web for £309! I'm usually keen to use real shops, but it's going to have to be the web for this one

willard, spot on, my cardio-vascular felt up for more, more, more. But…..the legs, aaaargh the pain. Had to ease right off for a couple of weeks re-assess and slowly take it from there.

I’ve had hamstring issues since getting back into running. I gently stretch three times a day regardless of exercise / work and elevate / ice every evening after run.
Easy on the stretching if it’s an actual “mechanical” injury though, as that might just be making things worse.
I use a very good sports physio who causes me great pain during massages (don’t cry out loud) but has helped me no end.
Two months into running and the hamstrings are finally getting the message!

Get into Bothy Bikes or Fat Tread Bikes and quiz the guys for detailed route advice. The trails around Loch an Eilein out to either Loch Morlich / Feshiebridge are lovely and mellow – visit Inshriach Nursery Cafe for good coffee n cake!
For water stuff contact G2 Outdoor (nr Fat Treads) great guides for rafting / canyoning.
Quad biking see info at Rothiemurchus visitor centre, walking – everywhere good! But the hill behind Aviemore (Craigellachie)is a wee gem.
Wet weather climbing get along to the indoor climbing wall (Extreme Dream) again nr Fat Treads.
    Enjoy.

Aye, don’t use road shoes, I love Adidas Swoop’s, they fit me well and grippy on rock. Much as I love mtbing there is a great sense of freedom running in the mountains and it does wonders for your ankle strength!

I spent most of my twenties “bivvy’ing” up round the world and even without a goretex “bivvybag” I slept very comfortably, but nowadays if I was to sleep out tent-less I would probably team up an ex-army “poncho” (Aussie issue ones were always covetted) with a goretex bivvy bag, just for the warmth and peace of mind with a down bag. But v fond memories of getting the basha up just right – I preferred para-cord to bungees.

jim, oh yes, the pain! I used to run a lot, but for the last 10 odd years all I’ve done is cycle (road and mtb). However, with time limited I’ve started running again and although the heart/lungs feel good, the legs have been in shreds – heavy and tight. However, after a month or so of basically jogging on off road terrain things are much better. Interestingly, exercising at the same hrm intensities running “feels” much harder than riding.

Try riding Drummochter bit on a roadbike with skinny hard tyres – it’s a bit rough! Other bits further north tarmacked (sp?) much nicer.

Hmmm mrsflash, Julianna was my first thought, but measured up a medium Superlite is apparently the same geometry as a medium Julianna. It’s the stretch and toptube clearance thing that’s wrong with the frame at the mo’.

I guess if I don’t concentrate I could do some damage with a 20 odd ton excavator or chainsaw.

Yep same here, plus add 27deg c heat and safety kit!

Well I tried it, legs feel ok, hard to say if legs feels “better”. I’ll try everything I can at the mo’; warmups/downs, stretching, “proper” recovery food, etc, etc. Tell you what though losing weight way quicker than riding.

Steven Graham’s character very close to the reality of some Private Security Employees. Not so much in the manic drugs/drink way, but the “let’s at least now make some serious cash” attitude of some ex squaddies.

Hi Richard, fit like? I “borrowed” a Chariot off a friend for some family fun during the Spring good weather (!) and found it an excellent bit of kit. Handled our local tame trails nae bother and the missus also found it nae bother to tow(I had number 1 son on the tag-a-long). However, I haven’t bought one as number 2 son will have to make do with our hand me down Rhode Gear rear kid seat – which served Fergs well for many a 2-3 hr Rothiemurchus jaunt.
