Suns been out most of the morning and we have just had a shower of rain. The black ice has now gone so i think tomorrow will be fine. So it's me and a SS tomorrow trying to ride Brechfa – this is going to hurt – i live in Suffolk so hills are alien to me.
AverageMarkFree MemberRight, spent 1/2 hour pushing my bike out of Llanpumsaint as the roads are coverd in black ice, gave up and turned back. Suns comming out but i would think twice if Brechfa has 1/2 as much ice then it will be pretty bad.
Will try tomorrow instead i think.AverageMarkFree MemberWill be there in the morning, hope that the rain thats just been falling will melt the ice off.
AverageMarkFree MemberSlowjo, i may be able to help a little here. Ride Thetford alot and race in the winter and the summer series. If it's paperwork and the such that is dragging i'm currently sat twiddling my thumbs on the dole line – my line of work is basicly dealing with this sort of thing in the building trade – O & M manuals, project documentation that sort of thing. and after dealing with Tech 12 at the base up the road anything the FC make would be a doddle. E-mail is in my profile if you want to drop me a line.
AverageMarkFree Memberwore it for a 3 hour ride this afternoon. Weather was a bit blowy but quite mild even if it was overcast. the comments about it getting warm where right, i took the arms off after about 10 mins – but then i think you'll find this true of most waterproofs. Once i had taken them off though the cut of it was great – v comfortable, no riding up and kept me dry and happy the whole ride.
AverageMarkFree MemberI had the same thing last week and in the end went for the convert. It arrived today and i'm impressed. Was swayed towards the Attack but then i figured the convert was a lot more practicle as i could remove the arms and use it as a Gilet when it was milder.
AverageMarkFree MemberThat'll stand out like a sore thumb round here, given the heads up to streetlife. lifecycles and ceder? will keep eyes open in lowestoft for it.
AverageMarkFree MemberI gave my on one forks some stick over the period i had them and they shrugged it all off. Now happily sat on someone else's bike i believe
AverageMarkFree MemberI have a troutlite and before that built tripple and quad crees up. the one thing i have found with all these lights is never listen to the lumens count. The quality of the lens and what they do with the light is so much more important (within reason of course). Of all the lights i have seen i really liked the ay ups a mate had. It was the fact that you could use all the output from them and direct them exactly where needed.
AverageMarkFree MemberErm – back on track i ran an On One carbon jobbie on the front of my bike for the summer and raced on it/ messed around on it. Was worried at first cause i was 15 stone but hell the thing was pretty indestructable. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another if the need came up. In fact it's moved on to someone else on here as well. When i looked i think the On One was the only one without a rider weight limit.
AverageMarkFree MemberGood to meet you there trout, even if it was only for a few mins. the baby Trout was definatly a really cool little bit of kit.
AverageMarkFree MemberReally enjoyed it, can only echo the comment about the good fun track and the cadets sat round doing the marshalling where always ready with a cheer or encouragment.
AverageMarkFree MemberI actually quite like the idea of the bloke in his shed making my lights – it's part of the charm. and i'm sure with the quality of this product then Chris could set himself up and ship in from the far east and probably make a good living from it, but then would they have the same appeal? I find it quite a nice thought that some bloke from up North came up with the idea of my light and a local business to him produced it off the back of a fag packet over a cuppa or 2. Sorta like how things should be …… And hell we all spend ridiculous amounts on our bikes anyway, whats being sensible and going to the large manufacturer's got to do with it anyway.
AverageMarkFree MemberHeat problems? i havn't looked at the new XPG's specs as i'm happy with the ones i have but as the current LEDS don't have an overheating problem i struggle to see why the new ones would. Not having a pop but just genuinly interested in this statement. I thought with the LEDs – to simplify it – at any given drive current, say 750 mah max as my XPE's are, you have a set amount of energy being transmited to the led's. The LED then converts this energy to light – the energy that it doesn't convert is what produces the heat. Now if the new LED's are brighter at a certain drive current then the only way to achieve this is by converting more energy to light than heat i.e. higher efficiency so therefore there wil surly be less heat? am i being simple? (probably)
AverageMarkFree Memberreal world results CaptainCrash? i've had my troutelight sine March i think, hasn't missed a beat, done Mayhem on it and will be racing D2D this weekend. I would trust Trout's customer service more than a fair few companies i've brought from over time, he was helpfull beyond belief when i first brought the light from him and i am 100% sure that should there be any problems he would fix them. I know where i would spend my money if it came down to it again – i also know where a few of my riding mates will be spending theirs. which reminds me, can i get a couple of cases seperatly or are you just doing complete units? also trout, do you have any perspex covers as i could use another? (builder cack handiness).
If anyones tempted by one and is at D2D this weekend your more than welcome to have a look at my first Gen one, just look for the knackerd sod in the retrobike team.
AverageMarkFree MemberBlimey trout you have been busy! looking forward to seeing how the beamshots on this one will compare to my first gen Troutlite – how do i justify the upgrade to the Wife is the other problem …..
AverageMarkFree MemberIt's gonna be a mud fest – i brought some new summer tyres for Sunday . On Thursdays we start about 8.30 – it makes it alot more fun riding Fritton in the dark.
AverageMarkFree MemberHey Ho Greedy! Tunstall is a good spot if you meet with TROG on a Sunday morning but can be a bugger on your own without someone showing you around. We ride on a Thursday evening from lowestoft and do a route out to Fritton as mentioned and youre more than welcome to join us. Failing that i'm not at work atm so if you post up when youre here and can get to Lowestoft i'll show you the way myself.

AverageMarkFree MemberMoney or run time?
Money was about 70 for a bat and charger from smusge. Run time i reckon 2 – 2 1/2 hours at full pelt and 4 hours at 350 ma – about half power. The thing is due to the amount of leds in it i found out that u can run it at lvl 2 – about 100 ma ish current and it’s still perfectly useable. Theoreticly 7 ish hours of usable light of a 2600 mah battery. If you pay more – Smudge does 5200 mah bats as well for 80 -90 ish i think then you can double that. Trout should be able to give you exact details.
One thing, don’t run it in double – just high and low – i done this with it set to 350 low and 700 high and got a right bollicking from the police when i was riding on the road.
AverageMarkFree Membersss smudge is your man, 14.8v Li-on and charger from him. I just orderd one due to my ham fisted messing up of my Ni-MH one
AverageMarkFree MemberIf anyone wants to see one i’ll be at MM next weekend with my Trout 6er thingy. Just come over to the retrobike bit and you can have a play with one and see just how bright the barsteward is. You going to be there Trout? if you are i’ll treat you to a Pims!
AverageMarkFree MemberJust to sway slightly off topic Trout. Finally tested my troutlite properly last night, went out with my mate and his brand new hope 4 led light. I think there’s a place for your lights still Trout as i have a funny feeling his Hope is going on e-bay and you may be recieving another order soon ……….
AverageMarkFree MemberDicky, you don’t want to mix and match mate, as i found out when i tried to find a seatclamp. The hope stuff is a very light green and doesn’t seem to match other green components. I think it would be better to keep them together to be honest so wouldn’t be interested in splitting. Sorry but if i’m going through the trouble of removing the aheadset and having a new one pressed in it would be better for me to have all the parts i wanted.
AverageMarkFree MemberSlight Hi-jack
I have both a set of green hope qr’s and a green hope aheadset that i’m considering swapping for Red stuff, they have been used for 3 months only. Make me an offer and we’ll see if we can come to some arrangment.
AverageMarkFree MemberMy Vanillas’s have exactly the same wear as MTBidle’s, looks identical. Is this caused by dirt getting in the seals as well?. I must admit i would probably retire my set after the summer anyhow, 3 years of riding through all sorts of crap is probably the limit. though i must admit they do work luverly ……..
AverageMarkFree MemberSwiftacular, i remember being slightly obsessed with that after school for a while.
AverageMarkFree Membergenghispod – try again. Christianity encompasses a mass of religions – including JW’s. They won’t let you believe anything, they are just people who don’t pick the best bits to believe in and try to follow the whole of the bible’s teachings. As with all things, it’s interpretation.
AverageMarkFree MemberErm, some of this is utter bolx, my wife’s a witness. Rudeboy, just tell them your not interested, politly point out that you have no interest in religion and they will leave you alone. You wouldn’t believe how organized they are, they have territories and routes they stick to. If you ignore them and don’t answer the door they will make a note and come back another time. Just tell them not to bother and hey presto!
AverageMarkFree Memberforgetmename, any chance of pics on that aheadset? i’m definatly interested.
