  • Marshall & Paterson Want You To Calm The F*ck Down And Become A Better Rider – Book Review

At 200lb you should be fine. I'm 60kg and even with the soft spring I can't get more than 60mm out of my 85's. Most of the time I'm getting around 50mm of travel. But they do that well and I've never serviced them and I use them for off road commuting all year round. I doubt you'll find a better fit and forget option at any price. I like the way they ride, they pretty much feel to me like riding with my rigid forks but without the pain.

I find it amusing that you should ask the question on a forum where people have the greatest difficulty in accurately weighing a bicycle.

Mud X here. I did try leaving Fire XC pros on last winter but they clogged so badly that I would have to stop 3 or 4 times on a 6 mile ride to work to unjam everything.

But those who disagree with the poster never cite any EVIDENCE either. Thats what's so fun about these arguments, they have no hope of going anywhere. As Jose Luis Borges would say "two bald men fighting over a comb."

Which terminal(s) at Heathrow are you using?

And it's a good job CDG is clean as it's good to have somewhere nice to be when your baggage can easily take over an hour to arrive.

Best decision was going for a Rohloff worst decision was to go for Thorn Catalyst rather than the Enduro as I thought I'd do my commuting on the road. Now I've ditched the rack, guards and rigid forks and commute off road. The bike is good but having recently upgraded to disc brakes at the front I wish I could do the same at the back.

But Simon you are being cruel to the living object who could be using it.

I've never found cost an issue in wanting things only buying them! All I can say on the cost of the Rohloff is that in over 3 years I've changed the oil 3 times and changed the chain once at the 3 year mark. It was still running perfectly well but as I was doing an oil change anyway I thought I might as well change the chain and reverse the chainring and I also chose to replace rather than reverse the rear sprocket. I replaced it because after reading up on the Thorn forums I decided that the risk of damaging an oil seal with a pitted surface running against it meant that it was probably more economical to spend £25 on a new sprocket rather than risk having to buy a new oil seal and the fitting tool required to replace it. I also factored in the additional cost of what would be an additional oil change. I use the bike as a commuter and the last 18 months of that has been commuting off road all year round. if the bike gets wet or muddy I just wipe the chain with a rag and relube it. If it gets very muddy I might hose it down. I don't bother to remove and clean the chain at all anymore. So living with it with a chain is very easy and the only real appeal of the belt is to drop the weight a bit. I live and ride on the South Downs so would be hard pressed to find anywhere to actually submerge the hub. I think Simon should send you his unloved hub, keeping it languishing in a cellar is right up there with keeping your children down there.

Isla bikes do trade in so they might have some second hand stock in. They don't advertise them on the web site so you may have to call them.

    I want one of these

Gates carbon belt is supposed not to stretch and only weigh 100g so cost apart no reason not to carry a spare. I'm very happy with the Rohloff and find it's only disadvantage for me is the weight. A belt drive would go a long way to making a Rohloff set up comparable in weight to a conventional set up. I've no idea how well it would work in the real world but given the money I'd give it a go.

Chrome is Google's browser which I use out of preference. I'll look at it on ie later which I still use for those sites that don't work with Chrome.

I've just hit 97% Chrome and XP but it is only a netbook. Having said that it's dropping as low as 6% as well.

Singlespeedpunk how much difference do you find between the LT and the ST? I have been considering one for a while just to take the edge off on longer rides. I only ride xc over the South Downs so nothing very rough but the rock hard chalk in the summer can get a bit wearing on the back.

There is also the possibility that the router has been set to only accept the MAC address of your wife's work laptop. I have my router set so that in will only work with my laptop and my netbook. You won't be able to do anything about it though without admin access to the router.

How old is the router and is the netbook wireless N. We had a couple of Lenovos at work that would not connect until I restricted them to G. Since then we've upgraded the firmware on the router and now they work quite happily. My own Eee pc wouldn't connect either at work until we did the upgrade. Wouldn't explain the fact that it's not working with a cable though.

That Rush does look nice but like Tankslapper I thought they were a bit lardy. I haven't been able to find any weights for them though.

grumm unfortunately Rafa's comments simply show that he has already given up any hope of the title. I think with all the rubbish going on with the ownership he's also giving away the fact that he really doesn't see himself being there long term.

doctornickriviera Dr Shipman simply exceeded his quota. He could have happily gone on killing them if he'd just slowed down a bit. If pensioners in Hyde hadn't become as scarce as cod in the North Sea he might have got away with it for a bit longer. Don't worry yourself as long as your careful with how your forge the wills and keep it down to just one a month or so you should be fine.

Don't they make frames for a lot of the so called big boy's who then stick bits on them sourced from other manufacturers and then hand the project over to the real bike experts in the marketing department?
