a circular saw? what was he thinking

The right circular saw that can be set to the right depth i.e the thickness of the boards is ideal.Don't blame the tool it needs the idiot attached before it can do any real damage.

I've seen plenty of people do stupid things but nothing makes me madder than doing something stupid myself.

Oh and don't paint your wheels and then reattach to car without removing any paint from the bolt holes. They will come loose, luckily in my case quite quickly while driving slowly.

It is indeed a lovely morning. I extended the commute this morning and although the first 2 climbs were in to a headwind it was still very nice. My shortest route is 6 miles but it's easy enough to extended it to any distance I feel like and still have less than a mile on the road in total.

Someone needs to do a proper test by fitting a boot on one side and nothing on the other. Then after a couple of years we might know what works best.

I imagine waterproof shorts to be very hot/sweaty

Rather than imagine, buy a cheap pair of army surplus trousers and cut them down and try them. Alternatively when its wet just sit in a nice comfy chair close your eyes and imagine that your out on a ride. :-)

I should point out -m- that I got them for nothing after they'd be bought for a job we were doing and you can't get better value than that. I wouldn't have paid that sort of money for them. But having said that they work very well and I've worn them for hours on end and find them very comfortable.

I also have some in ear Sony units but find that they fall out of my ears because they are heavy due to the microphones on the sides.

It depends on how often you ride. I bought the Alturas and they have been good but a winter of off road commuting where they have been used everyday has seen them start to delaminate in the seat. I'll probably just go back to using cut down army surplus in the future as they seem tougher and for the money I'd be happy if they last a winter. If your doing occasional longer rides in bad conditions then purpose made may be better, It's the day in day out use when they stay muddy all the time that destroys them.

That's very nice Luminous but I'd be a bit worried about losing the fish on a rough downhill.

    not fit for purpose.

Just ask for the manager and ask if he would like to sort out the problem or should you refer it to trading standards. Take a print out of the description with you and if they give you any crap just ring TS from your mobile while standing at the cash desk. wait till there is a good crowd though.

As a hub gear convert I think the 11 speed will be worth waiting for if only for the oil bath. My Rohloff must have done somewhere in the region of 8000 miles plus in the last 4 years and an oil change once a year takes half an hour or so. It's a damn site better than having to take something apart to re grease it. In that 4 years I've changed the chain once even though the original chain was still running fine and reversed the chain ring and replaced the sprocket. I could have reversed that as well but chose not to as the outer surface which had 3 years of exposure to the elements would then of been running against the oil seal. Looking on the Thorn forums many have done this without problems but most don't commute off road all year round on their bikes as I do.

I think the 11 speed alfine is going to be as big a milestone in mountain biking as index gearing, working suspension forks and disc brakes. well Maybe I should say hope rather than think. I should also add that I adopted all of those big improvements years after they were established. But like the Americans I may have been late for WWI and WWII but god dammit I'm going to be early for WWIII

So what about all the tractor ruts on the South Downs. You can ride side by side but only in separate ruts. Can they be considered as a dual carriageways of mountain biking.

I'd be waiting for the 11 speed version which will use an oil bath like the Rohloff. I believe it should be avaliable before the worst of the winter weather sets in.

They work great till they leak

But on the plus side they work for longer than the gloves. I've got a pair of the thermal ones and combined with MW80's they are great for the winter.

i'll have a look for someone near brighton that can do that..

Enigma in Eastbourne certainly have the capability as they offer it for their bespoke builds. It might be worth contacted them to see if they offer it as a separate service. Of course you may find it hard to leave without ordering one.

Call your local undertaker, might be able to do you something cheap if they've had a last minute cancellation.

And if your wife might finds out your after cheap flowers then they might be able to offer her a discount once she's finished with you.

In your case Mr Woppit "perhaps" seems to be the closest you can get to saying "Sorry njee20 you were right and I was wrong."

Go on I dare you to put that in writing. :-)

I say chaps what wood should I choose for the wheels of my dandyhorse. It must be able to cope with long gravel driveways and the occasional collision with a peasant.

He can think himself lucky he was only pulled up for CO2, I once had mister security man announce loud enough for every one to hear that my valves and logos weren't lined up.

Thanks jahwomble I'd just finished my last session with my therapist to deal with my fear of carbon shards heading for my heart and now you throw that one in. it's going to cost me another small fortune to get over this. I reckon I might take up base jumping it seems so much safer.

Did Raleigh ever make that many decent bikes?

Well when I was a kid I reckoned the Raleigh Tour de France was the best bike in the world.

I've no real idea but I think it remains at 7 but don't we have to now consider the issue of time. The force will be the same but it will take twice as long. Or have I really even less idea than I think.

But the difference between a 32 and a 36 is really walking or riding…

Yes maybe, but at the same speed.

Geoffrey Rush in just about everything I've seen him in. Like Sir Ben Kingsley he's one of those actors whose own persona doesn't overwhelm the character.

Also impressed with Michael Sheen in the Queen and The Damned United. I haven't seen Frost /Nikon but I believe he was equally good in that, one of those actors who becomes the person they are portraying.

I agree that Heath Ledger would have gone on to be an one of the best of his generation but I preferred him in films like The Knights Tale and Candy (in which you get another great performance from Geoffery Rush as well)to the Batman films.

I think the drugs were tolerated because it wasn't seen as cheating just a way to try and get through it. Don't forget it was a 1000km longer then than now.

For the price of the Soul you could look at the Ti 456 with full XT kit. Lifetime guarantee on the frame as well.

I've left my Mud x on the front through the summer. Many others on here seemed to be doing the same so I gave it a go and been very pleased with it.I find them a really good in the mud and make my commute possible all year round.

I've just changed from coil forks to air and I wouldn't go back but I weigh 60kg and ride in a manner that could only be described as xc lite. Even with the lightest spring in my last forks and no preload I was lucky to get more than 50mm travel. I'm riding faster now because I can see rather than everything being a bit blurred. There is a bit of faffing with air pressure initially but it's hardly an onerous task.

But then how would everyone know I had a Ti seatpost, I'd have to mask off the logo. :-)

I only move the seatpost to compensate when adjusting the ebb so it could be an option. Better still though keep it as it is and then have to buy a Ti frame.

I'm looking at these as well but the bike and all the finishing kit is black so I'm not sure about the look. And yes I am aware that I won't be looking at it when I'm riding.
