Those prices for the control 1’s are for a single speakers. They are nice though, I used 4 of them with an 85″ LCD earlier this year and they do sound good.

I’d second the arms and legs advice, your radiators get warmer for the same output from your boiler if you lag the pipes after all. Many years ago when I was a postman I never wore more than just a shirt and the basic jacket or the waterproof if it was raining, my winter jacket went back to the stores unworn when I left. However I do feel the cold in my hands and there was a noticeable difference between wearing a short sleeve or long sleeve shirt in how cold my hands got.

Arm and leg warmers might be worth a try, they won’t cause you to feel too hot and they won’t restrict your circulation.

If you took all the money spent on Air Ambulances and put it all into preventative medicine would you save more or less lives?

True crypt is free and will allow 2 levels of security meaning that when they start on you with the pliers and the blowtorch you can give in and let them into your supposedly secret info while still keeping your hamster porn safe.

The biggest difference in the Pacific was that there was no getting away from the jungle itself which for many of the troops in that theatre was a far harder thing to deal with than the actual fighting. Those conditions were unrelenting 24 hours a day, day after day, week after week, month after month. There were no towns or villages to fall back too for troops to rest, they just sat it out in one patch of jungle or another.

As for the original question it is worth watching although I too preferred BOB

A couple of years ago they ran a 20% of all waterproofs promotion. Immediately before they moved some items from the waterproofs section to the windproof section. I did e-mail them as I thought it was a pretty rotten trick, they claimed it was pure coincidence and that the decision of the product manager who decided to move the items was completely independent of the marketing department who ran the promotion.

I think they were lying myself but I saw no point in pursuing it.

Another advantage of the desiccant type like the Ruby Dry is that they are a lot lighter than the conventional type and easier to move around the house. We run ours downstairs in the evening and move it upstairs at night.

Clippers at home now but 11 years without cutting it before that.

I did go to the barbers once after that 11 years and said cut it all off. His reply was “You been on f***ing crimewatch.”

Whatever you get make sure you can source a nice cheap fake one so you can sell the original and buy something useful. You’ll just need a good cover story for the new bike. :-)

I’d replace that laminate quadrant with timber quadrant, use filler, rub down all the paintwork and paint the whole lot white.

Well at work we use plasma and LCD. So what gives the best picture? Simple, the 15 year old Sony 27″ CRT cube monitors. Not much call for 4×3 these days though and they weigh about the same as a small car.

I went LCD because I didn’t want reflective glass. Best image I’ve seen for a while though was a 37″ Sony Plasma, looked a lot like a CRT monitor with realistic skin tones. I’m not sure who actually make them for Sony though as they don’t produce plasma screens themselves.

If you go with LED you may need to but a speaker system immediately as the very thin units have no room for speakers that don’t sound pretty poor.

I think one important question is what is the father of these children doing to ensure his children don’t become homeless. I have no idea and he may be doing all he can or he may not. If he is left with more disposable income than his ex wife then he isn’t doing enough and I don’t think the rest of us should have to step in if he isn’t making the same sacrifices as she is. If they are both doing all they can then in the long run it will be cheaper for all of us to support them until she can go back to work.

    It wont kill you though.

That kind of depends on when you discover you don’t have

quite a bit of control/grip that you could have

    doesn’t it

If it’s a nice dry day I see no reason not to open the windows

If it’s a nice day then just open all the windows and turn the dehumidifier off. No point trying to dehumidify the whole planet. We have the Ruby Dry unit as it’s quieter and works without the heating on. We don’t set the thermostat above 18 and it goes off at 8.30 in the evening so a standard unit would not perform at it’s best.

Edit: I did wonder when I got ours out of the cupboard a week ago when we’d get the first dehumidifier post.

Anyway Tenby is very nice with great beaches in the town and all along the coast. Like Cornwall but quieter nicer and cheaper but don’t tell anyone else that.

Brighton is getting worse to cycle around, only yesterday I had a bloke push a wheelbarrow out in front of me while heading down Bear Road.

Overall though I think generally the standard of driving in Brighton is actually a lot better than the standard of cycling. I know cyclists don’t directly do damage very often to others but every time I see one piss off another motorist by doing something stupid and selfish I reckon that’s another motorist whose going to show me less respect.

Mud X front and rear since yesterday. I find them ideal for winter riding and they even get me over the wet bare chalk sections of the commute without overworking my sphincter.

I ask because a lot of people on here will say what tyres they run and at what sort of pressure but rarely mention running different front and rear pressures. It makes sense due to weight distribution although I guess that distribution can vary significantly as you move around on the bike and braking must also have quite an affect.

So as an aside does anyone here run different tyre pressures front and rear.

I’m on my second Carlton Suitcase after 14 years of very regular flying. The first one only needed replacing as some baggage handler in Helsinki dropped it out of the hold onto the tarmac. The nice people at BA bought me a new one though.

I like a lot about it but I just don’t get the obsession in the whole industry with glossy screens on portable devices. When I chose a netbook the first requirement I had was that it had a matt screen. Glossy screens may look really good when you have control over the ambient lighting but when your travelling I find them a pain. I believe you can get stick on anti reflective screens for the Ipad but that’s just likely to look crap and I guess if your interested in one then the aesthetics are important to you.

There is one ‘part’ that gets cold and I’ve not found a solution for that yet.

Well put it away when your riding then.

I agree with uponthedowns – amazing how they can cram a 20 minute program into an hour.

I agree with you epicyclo I just think that most of the advantage comes from the hub gear itself and the belt only offers a relatively small improvement on top. However once these things are working properly in frames designed rather than adapted for the purpose and the teething problems are ironed out then I’d get the Rohloff converted. The best thing about the belt in my opinion though is that the reduction in weight may encourage more people to try hub gears. And the more people do that then the more time and money the manufacturers will spend in trying to improve them.

If you know anyone flying anywhere then the airport is the best as you can get them at equivalent to VAT free. With Dixons you can also pre order them from the their airport website which means it will be reserved and waiting for you. You can also take it back to any high street branch if you have any problems with it.

Having run a hub gear with a chain for over 4 years the only real advantage of the belt seems to be saving a bit of weight and a very small amount of maintenance. My last chain lasted 3 years and the current one has done over a year of off road commuting and general use and I’ve never done more than wipe it over with a rag and spray it with GT85. I still like the idea of one though.
