At the moment it’s the smell of my friend’s ecu frying. He insisted on driving down to pick up a curry rather than walk for 5 minutes. Went to come back and everything is flashing and firing intermittently and the distinct smell of components melting, and that’s not a nice smell.

So the cars still outside the curry house.

Best smell, well the curry is pretty good.

I’ve got my off road commuter rigid now but I’ve bought a hardtail for longer rides and weekends. I like riding rigid for the simplicity and would ride one all the time but for the pain I get in my ribs(lower down at the back) on a longer ride. It can be extremely painful and feels like they are moving around and stabbing vital internal organs. As I’m still alive and not coughing up blood I think it may be a little less serious than that but hurts like hell non the less.

Saddle should be in position so that with pedals horizontal, a vertical line from the front of your knee goes through the middle of the pedal axle

Hasn’t that been tested and found to be nonsense?

A lot of people on here change them more frequently than I clean mine.

The fire risk of them smoking that much in bed must be horrendous.

I hope you’ve got plenty of working smoke detectors.

Can’t believe it took 3 pages to get to Hugh Grant.

I was thinking the same but came to the conclusion that this was because quite rightly no one actually considers him to be an actor.

I needed a rear brake cable in a hurry the other day for my v brake so popped into Halfords and bought the fairly cheap Clarks set with teflon coating. I also put new pads on which were Shimano ceramic specific and replaced Avid ceramic pads. I couldn’t believe the difference, the rear brake is now performing as well as the BB7 at the front. I haven’t changed the cable on that yet but it will be interesting to see how much difference that makes.

Funny how a shop with such bad staff attracts such obnoxious customers.

polar exprorers take jacob crackers (light) and butter (obscenely high in calories) on solo treks.

Really? I can’t think of two more incompatible foods to eat in arctic conditions (imagine trying to spread frozen butter on cream crackers)

And just imagine what happens when you lick your lips and your tongue is welded to them.

I have a small wind up Roberts radio that is a cracking little radio,

Sounds like the one we have and it is excellent. I occasionally use the wind up option but it lasts for ages on rechargeable batteries and the sound quality and reception are better than any of our other fm / am radios.

3 times on my first ride with them, thinking I still had toeclips on and just pulling my foot backwards as I came to a stop. Each time landing on hard chalk and flint on my left hip. I don’t think I ever did it again though.

I drink black tea so mine gets very bad. A while ago I’d put soya milk in it and when I poured it out it was like chocolate Nesquick and my flask was like new. I still used the soya milk and lived.

As used for bike polo where I guess it’s very tempting to shove a stick through your opponents front wheel.

On-One say on their site that the frame was designed around a 2x drive train.

So why do they sell it with a triple?

    That’s the holocaust memorial… it#s Awesome!!!

It’s right by the Brandenburg Gate. The Jewish Museum is worth a visit I’ve never seen anything to compare with the sculpture/installation Fallen Leaves, the most moving piece of art or monument I’ve ever seen.

Pre September 11th 2001, I once arrived at Heathrow 25 mins before my plane was due to leave.

I’ve done 15 mins at Sao Paulo and that was post 9-11. We got held up because everyone was leaving for the carnival in Rio. We arrived at the airport with all the BA check ins closed but they took us into one of the offices and took our cases and sent us off to get on the plane. Sat down and pulled back and we were on our way on time. Luggage arrived as well which was a bonus

Cannondale Bad Boy Rohloff would be my choice. My commute is nearly entirely off road and at the moment it’s a mudfest. I’ve got the Rohloff which is brilliant for such conditions but a little suspension would make things even better. I had been running my Rebas locked out for a couple of months but went back to full rigid a week or so ago. What surprised me most of all was the extra traction the little bit of movement in the Rebas gave. I reckon the headshock would be perfect in such conditions.

Mate shoulder barges me and i end up knocking into this lad in yr10
He shouts at me ‘tw2t’ and i ignore him, next thing I know he’s strangling me from behind and punching me in the ribs.

An apology and checking he was ok might just have saved you a little trouble but it looks like you’ve come over all Gaddafi and launched your heavy weapons on the crowd. I reckon it’s dangling from a lamppost for the pair of you now. :-)

having in/out disk access that fast is going to increase productivity in a big way

Or allow exactly the same amount of work to be done but more time on STW. :-)

The F-111 is a brilliant kit!

It’s the Heinkel 111 I have but I do remember making the F111, I think that was probably the only post WW2 plane I ever built. Can’t honestly remember what noises I made though.

I think one of the very first I built was Richard the Lion-heart.Anyway while looking around I’ve just found an airfix forum so that’s it I’m just going outside, I may be some time.

I’ve got a Wellington and a 111 in the cupboard still in their boxes which I must have bought at least 30 years ago. I don’t know why I didn’t get around to them at the time.

Boardman Pro is now £850. I was thinking of a whippet but the Boardman spec was too good at that price and I can always buy the whippet frame later.

25 years ago I paid £400 for a rigid 15 speed Specialized Rockhopper with friction gears and cantilever brakes.
A couple of weeks ago I bought a Boardman Hardtail pro for £900 with Reba Race forks 27 speed X9 XO gears and avid elixir disk brakes.

That is a price rise of £20 a year.

So while bikes may be expensive it’s nothing new. And when I bought that Rockhopper I was going in to the Muddy Fox shop in London looking at bikes that cost £1000 even then.

And you could always resort to buying the bike you need rather than the one you want. :-)

Every time I see a bloke go into a trap for a wee when there’s perfectly servicable urinals free, I think to myself, “micropenis.”

I know some one who always uses the trap and I’ve also seen him turned down by a professional lady as he was too big.

This has got me wondering if I could run a 29 with my Pace forks but they are only 420mm ac. A quick measure suggests it’ll work and I’ve 40mm of spacers under the stem so I can keep the bars at the same height.
Of to look for a cheap 29″ wheel.

Why don’t you do something useful and learn plumbing instead and get some running water in your house so you no longer have to buy ready washed potatoes just so you can do the washing up! :-)

Giving people in oppressive countries their democratic rights, including, education, healthcare, housing, and employment, is the basis for making them far more productive.

You forgot to add “in a capitalist economy where they see the rewards for their increased productivity” :-)

you can’t have people drinking in the workplace

I used to work in a place that had a bar that was open at lunchtimes. It was all right though because we just blew things up.

OP you did exactly the right thing.
