Well as it’s probably diesel I wouldn’t recommend this as it’ll leave them even more unpleasant than if they’d been wee’d in.

as I only used 5wt and that’s not right really.

Peter Poddy in one of his posts about servicing Rebas says he’s a pair that have been going for 4 years just using 5wt oil for the lubrication.

I went through all this 3 times in 18 months

Similar experience here. Must have been at least 5 times before I saw someone who knew what the problem was. It was always taken seriously and I had ultrasounds for stones and blood tests. The pain was fairly bad, the worst thing being I couldn’t sleep as I couldn’t stay in one position for more than a few minutes. The nausea was pretty unpleasant as well. It usually lasted between 24 and 48 hours and then everything would be fine for a few months. Mine came out as a planned operation a couple of months after seeing the specialist and was nice and straightforward.
It all began shortly after sailing over the bars while going downhill resulting in a fairly heavy landing. I’ve no idea if there was a link.

it’s equivalent to saying he’d be happy for anyone to go in to work as a copper if the police went on strike!

Well the public seem quite good at dealing with burglars so why not. I’m off on Thursday, I think I might tell the kids this evening that it’s ok school will be open and I’ll be teaching them. That should go down well.

I think the only real reason to rule out 9 speed is if you wanted to run a single chainring. Not that you can’t do that with 9 speed but it would be more versatile with 10.

When I had mice in the loft I googled it and STW was third on the list, so you’ve come to the right place. Anyway before you worry about getting rid of them you need to stop more getting in. I’ve put fine mesh over the air bricks as they reckon if you can get a pencil in a gap a mouse can get in.

Rift Zone? 4″ travel but built for trails more than racing from what I gather. I’ve no idea how it would handle longer forks.

I wonder if anyone’s been left to die on the SDW yet. Once their on that wet chalk it’ll be every man for himself.

Don’t forget to factor in 5mins for a mandatory icecream from the van at Ditchling Beacon.

Unless he’s only there at weekends?

It was there at 6:15 last Tuesday.

If the wind is anything like on Saturday then I reckon it’ll be like going to New York on Concorde and you’ll arrive before you leave. I did 20 miles from Worthing back to the far side of Brighton on the road on the mountain bike in an hour and 10 without even trying.
I was out above Kingston on Sunday and it was fine, as others have said it does dry quickly at this time of year. I’d like to be giving it a go but I’m stuck in Dublin all week but hoping to find a gap in July when I can give it a go. Not sure I’m up to the whole thing in a day but living in Brighton gives me the option of doing it 2 without the hassle of carrying extra kit.

Good luck to all of you doing it.

If the chain stays on it’s tight enough. I only tighten my chain when it falls off.

It’s not the mud that’ll get you. It’s the sheet ice-like wet chalk, but you probably know that. No tyre will keep you upright on that stuff.

I ride to work all year round on the South Downs and I’ve found Mud X tyres pretty good in the wet and mud. There’s a couple of stretches of smooth bare chalk and even they feel ok with them on. I had XC pros on before that and the same sections were really twitchy. If you are on the bare smooth chalk ride in the puddles there’s a lot more grip at the bottom of those.

Still tubes for me mainly because I seem to average around 1 to 2 punctures a year and I’m light enough and enough of an xc mincer to run down to 30psi without ever getting pinch flats.

    I don’t change tyres, I change wheels,

I change bikes, I have one for wet muddy conditions, Rohloff hub Pace RC31 forks Mud x tyres and hideous mudguards and another bike for nice days. I’d be tempted to go tubeless on that to save weight but I won’t do that till I’ve worn out the heavy wired tyres that came on it.

A quick release pedal system that allows the axle to remain in place and interchangeable spd and flat bodies.

A software solution into which all variables are input and it outputs the correct tyre choice.

A couple of new subjects for the forum as if you do the above this place is going to get a bit quiet.

I’ve heard about the triples fouling, which is one of the main reasons I haven’t bought as it would mean a new chainset, as well BB, front mech & headset to swap from my other XC bike

I’m thinking of one of these at the moment but I’ll go 1 x 9 and take an angle grinder to the chainset so I’ll only need a headset and BB with it.

Well I’ve been riding Bridleways exclusively for 25 years and I’m not stopping now. I’ve never been to a trail centre, personally the less people I see on a ride the better. The great appeal to me about riding is that it starts and ends on my doorstep, I don’t want to have to travel somewhere to then ride. I’m lucky in that I live right on the edge of the South Downs, only 15 minutes riding from the SDW and there are miles and miles of bridleways and I’ve never found myself tired of it in all that time. I can cover the 6 miles to work using 5 miles of bridleways though most days, at least when the weathers good, I take a longer route.

I work as an AV technician often working with local suppliers and crews. When we have pre production meetings I always know that the more smartly dressed the company representative is the less they know about the technical aspects of the job. They are basically sales people and the answer to most questions you ask them is I’ll have to check on that. Now when someone turns up dressed in show blacks I’m almost certain to be able to get an answer to my questions straight away. An awful lot of people out there are hiding in a suit.

I do this all the time, I always take a book. Sounds odd but one of the reasons I want a Kindle is that you don’t have to use the cutlery to hold it open. The other thing I like to do is just go for a wander and see what’s around, best to pick up a map from reception if like me you realise you’ve been wandering for ages and now have no idea where you are. I’m usually out of the country and to be honest I find that helps because it’s nice to be out just soaking up a different atmosphere, I don’t enjoy it as much when it’s in this country when I often think I’d much rather be at home.

I’ll be going 1 x 9 at the weekend with a 32/11-32. When things need replacing I’ll go to a 32 or 34/11-36 10 speed. I can ride everything near me on a 1:1 set up and I reckon by the time I’m struggling with that it may be quicker to get off and push.

I use it and it seems to work well. It certainly gets a lot of crap out from the wipers and when I had the lowers off to increase the travel recently everything was very clean after around 10 months of using the forks including commuting off road all through the winter.
I’ve not compared it to anything else but a can lasts a long time, I use it perhaps once a week in the current weather conditions and maybe 2 or 3 times a week in the winter. That is though on a bike ridden off road everyday.

Be aware that the whippet is really designed for 2 x 10 set ups and not all all triple cranks will give adequate mud clearance.A few people have already damaged the frames running triples. The On One web site tells you which triples will work with it. It’s top of my list to buy to transfer all the parts from my Boardman onto. That will involve going to 1 x 9 and taking an angle grinder to my chainset though!

On my decking I screwed a joist to the house and garage walls and then used joist hangers for the joists coming off

The outside bricks of your house and garage are not structural! Although give enough other supports I’m sure it will be fine. My deck is around 4.5ft in the air at the highest point so I wasn’t taking any chances. Also if your fix to the wall all water running down the wall will soak into that joist.

On the over engineering front my 5x3M deck has 13 4″ posts and a large concrete pillar in one corner 6 8×2 beams and 6×2 joists at 400mm intervals. All I need now is to paint a big white H on it.
