I shall be buying a Kindle on Thursday when I’m at the airport – I don’t know if it’ll make me want to get rid of the books I have though as I like just having them on shelves. With DVD’s and CD’s on the other hand I have no attachment at all to the physical object. I’ll probably still keep buying physical books which I usually pick up in charity shops, the Kindle is really just for travelling which I do a lot of for work.
I’ve also got some old partwork books that a neighbour left me many years ago, all from the the early 1900’s to the 1930’s. They don’t really appear to be worth much but I can’t get rid of them.

very few other places to lose weight on this bike now

How much does it currently weigh? I love my Rohloff but one day would like to build it into a light option as it’s currently a long way from that even though it’s rigid. And have you thought about a belt drive or is that not an option with the current frame?

That on one looks good, I reckon that with the flat bar would be perfect.

I’ve actually got a friends Subway 8 with the Nexus hub in the garage at the moment while he’s no where to keep it. It needs the cabling sorted but he might want to sell it as he only bought it because a friend offered it to him for £50.

I’d pretty much decided on 2×10, so it’s a bit of a disappointment to find there’s no twist shifters. I’ll give triggers a go and see how I get on with them

I’ve got an XO mech and X9 trigger shifters on one bike and a Rohloff on another. The SRAM stuff seems fine after 6 months of use but I haven’t used Shimano in years so I can’t compare them. I also only use the normal gears in nice weather so I’ve no idea how it’ll cope with really grotty conditions. I too actually prefer the twist shifter and would look to go get one when I get around to going 10 speed but it wouldn’t stop me going to Shimano if I thought the actual rear mech were better.

Caldey Island is worth a trip and just tell the 9 year old they make chocolate there. There are loads of really nice beaches and quite a few castles if you like those.

Governments have been known to break promises in the past. You should also consider will you be able to keep them clean without too much difficulty. Also consider that the payback times shown compared to investing the money in the building society etc are based on current very low interest rates. Also as far as I can see they also don’t take into consideration the compound interest on your savings if they are elsewhere.
These feed in tariffs will push energy prices up and the people who are the poorest who don’t own their own homes and who cannot fund the installation will be the ones who subsidise the relatively wealthy. They might start to get just a little pissed off with that and maybe one or two politicians will cotton on to that and see the removal of middle class subsidies as a vote winner.
In short if you think the Government(s) will keep a promise for at least a decade, if you believe that interest rates will stay low for a decade and if you don’t give a dam whose subsidising you then yes it’s a no brainer.
I’m in no way against installing pv but I don’t think you should rely on points 1 and 2.

In a walk in the woods Bill Bryson recalls the advice he was given at the outdoor store regarding differentiating between a black bear and a grizzly. If you see a bear climb a tree to get away- if the bear climbs the tree and eats you it’s a black bear if it shakes you out of the tree and eats you it’s a grizzly.

An Anthem is still 100mm so doesn’t exactly for the ‘mid travel’ tag

OP does say short to medium though. And the forks could be changed to 120 later.

Another thought. Does the DVI port of your graphics card give out both an analogue and digital signal? I’ve a couple of Dell Optiplex PC’s running down in the warehouse at the moment and they only have a DVI connector but with a DVI – 1xDVI and Ix VGA splitter they run either or both together. If you can go that way there is no loss of signal.

60M of VGA will give you a picture but you will get some ghosting and a soft image. I’ve had over a 100M running on one occasion to a projector. It worked but it’s very soft. You can do long runs if you have delay units though. If we run DVI over 10M we use CAT5 boxes but even then the limit is 60M at 1024×768 and 30M at 1920×1080.
As for splitters you get what you pay for and if your going the cheap route I’d go for a cheap switcher over a cheap splitter. You should be able to pick up one of those old rotary switch ones for very little – the switch is pretty crude but it doesn’t sound like that will be an issue.

Call the police and tell them that if they are not going to act then you are going to the local paper with the story. They’ll like it as they can link it to the horrible case of Simon Richardson which is national news. Why are local police not taking hit and run seriously etc etc. I don’t think they will like the idea of the exposure. This case is just as serious – hitting someone in your car and doing nothing to see if they are ok or getting help for them is totally unforgivable. The fact that you injuries will quickly heal is irrelevant – this person left you with no regard to your condition, if you’d been seriously hurt in desperate need of medical attention they would have still left you.

It might be an offence if they can prove it was you who damaged the clamp. However some action with an angle grinder and then the clamp dumped in the nearest canal/skip etc. How would they prove it was you who removed it? I’m talking proof beyond reasonable doubt – not just suspicion

CCTV? I wouldn’t suggest you should change career to master criminal. 🙂

en suite have door in middle

Same for the small bedroom – doors in corners means you lose useful wall space. As others have said I’d also think about bringing the en-suite to the front as it looks like plumbing and drainage should be easier.

You may need a medium cage rather than a short one as a short one may not cope with your largest sprocket even if it will handle the range.

You need a specific bb for the Truvativ – I wouldn’t swap the Stylo for a Deore I’d get the right bb.

Why do people make a point of answering the question and the referring to the use of Google. Is it so they can both show off their knowledge and sneer at someone else at the same time or is because it’s a qualifying requirement to become a forum expert. 🙂

I think Realman makes a good point especially if your market is people who know a bit about what they are buying. I bought an off the shelf Boardman from 2010 with the idea that it might be a donor bike but in reality it’s so well matched throughout I’ve felt no need to do it.
Bikes these days rarely come with pedals because people have preferences and have bought into systems but I think you could offer options on tyres and saddles as well as much of your market will have definite preferences on these. Many people may be happy to buy without tyres or saddles as they have those ready to swap to a new bike. I’ve changed those bits on the Boardman and I would imagine they are the most commonly swapped items on stock bikes.

The chainring is of course getting more wear in a 1×10 setup though

That is true but you can use an unramped ring and reverse it when worn. Unramped rings also tend to be a bit cheaper as well so you’ll reduce your costs.

I’m running 1×9 and will go to 1×10 once it all needs replacing. What I’d be interested in is if anyone sells 10 speed rear shifters as single unit rather than as pairs. Judging by the amount of 1x threads on here there must be a lot of front shifters in peoples spares box.

    Edit
I’m still running the ramped middle ring and a long cage mech and haven’t shortened the chain at all and it’s been fine for xc riding. I’ve a bash ring and an old light bracket bodged as a jump stop.
