    it’s a vacuum cleaner

I’ve always failed to see what there could possibly be in a vacuum to clean so consequently have never used one.

I drove a Vito for years for work, it was never looked after particularly well and in 8 years I don’t think anything ever broke on it but you could see it rust in front of your eyes. Look around at the first model and all of them are rusty. They may have improved since however.

Margaret Thatcher was urged to abandon Liverpool to “managed decline”

Well LFC obviously thought it a good idea as it’s the model they’ve adopted in the intervening period.

This IS my backup…the other data is in a big desktop PC in Italy… in future I will back up on a remote server…

Looks like I will have to pay the money as we have our tax returns and calendars to do….

    bollox

Probably cheaper, more reliable and quicker to buy a cheap return flight if you can.

It was good but I think the writer missed a trick or two. I think he should have had a burning building with all the main characters running in and out of it at various points while we sat riveted on the edge of our seats trying to guess who would die.

If you could limit yourself to 120 forks then the Whippet would seem a good option.

I love how people try and turn a positive experience into something negative.

We didn’t your mate did, ruined the whole spirit of Christmas for me. 😉

We’re not really having a go at him it’s just that you didn’t seem to see the irony in you original post. Anyway whatever he’s decided at least you’ve come forward and told us all a positive story about Halfords.

Found a pigeon in the garden yesterday that looked a lot like that. As your mutt has form I’d be obliged if he could account for his movements yesterday.

It’s all a bit of a laugh but it was a malicious false alarm that marked my dad’s worst day in 30 years of being in the fire brigade. He was the County Fire Officer when a 12 year old girl phoned the fire brigade to report a fire in a hotel, the first fire engine to respond was in collision with a car which burst into flames killing the 2 friends in it, one of them was celebrating his eighteenth birthday that day.

Complete and utter waste of 2 lives and untold damage to others just to have a laugh.

So who did he buy the Trek from? If I’d had that from a shop I’d have stuck with them and gone for the replacement.

Half a pound of that must be pvc tape. 🙂
Maybe a bit of helitape instead may look better and save some weight!

Looks nice in red, if we hadn’t been spending a small fortune on building work I’d be really tempted by one. I’m hoping by the time I can afford it they’ll be doing a white one again.

I ride commute to work on the downs and quite frankly the idea of doing 100 miles in the winter has no appeal at all. If you do go for it I would definitely avoid summer tyres, I use Mud X all through the winter which seem pretty good, enough grip, don’t clog too easily and are reasonably fast rolling.

Not seafood but if you like Thai then I’d recommend the Thai Orchid 336 Argyle Street which is near the central station. I ate there a couple of times back in October when I had a job at the SECC and it was very good.

Surely his honesty should go in his favour, no?

I think it would have done if he had come clean at the beginning and openly admitted and apologised for what he said. Unfortunately I think he has had very bad advice from his club who have behaved at the very least naively throughout the whole affair. I think they come out of this worse than he does.

For the intelligent on here trying to convince the gullible, stop. Instead realise that there is a world of people out there who need exploiting and relieving of their cash. Put your efforts into that it’ll be a lot more productive. Embrace the mystical and get rich – I think there may be at least one person on here who has already started on that plan. 🙂

There seems to be some confusion amongst people as to what he is being punished for and the people with the least comprehension of it seem to be Liverpool football club.

His defenders are all saying that he is not a racist but that is irrelevant as he has not been charged with being a racist. He has been charged with using language which in the country he used it in and in the context he used it is considered to be racist. The defence that this would be fine in another country is no defence at all and neither is ignorance of the law.
I think the club have acted very unwisely in this as they know that he said something which is not acceptable in this country and yet they have defended him. They should have stood by him but told him to plead guilty and to make a public apology and he could have gone on to explain how what he said would not have been seen in the same way in his own country.

More and slower moving traffic may be one factor. As the weather gets worse more people get in their cars rather than walk cycle or use public transport.

My commute can take 35 minutes in Summer and 55 in winter but that’s off road.

I’m finding it easier than I thought. I switched about 3 months ago but I do ride off road to work and back everyday so I’m spending plenty of time with them. Although the terrain is very tame the bike is rigid so the ride is a lot rougher than it would be with suspension. I’m just using very cheap pedals that came with my Boardman and some old Specialized Posi Trac shoes a friend gave me. Overall I’m really happy to have switched as I’ve never been a confident or skilled rider and the knowledge that I can put a foot down without thinking about it means I’m enjoying the riding more. I’ve also found the ability to move my foot around on the pedal a great help when riding at slower speeds and manoeuvring the bike.
In the spring I’ll by some better pedals and shoes for my cross country hardtail and see how I get on for longer rides. If I don’t get on with them then I’ll go back to spd’s on that bike and put the better pedals on the rigid bike as I’ll be sticking with flats on that bike.

In the 90’s I found hiking boots / gaiters / plastic toe clips fine. Why not now?

Up until a bout 3 years ago I found v brakes fine all winter but once I’d tried something better I didn’t want to go back.

The irritation is that it doesn’t need any great leap forward or even any development. There are plenty of good uppers and plenty of good soles that if combined would make a boot better than any of the compromises that people are using now.

We’ve just come back from a job in Dublin. We arrived on a Sunday evening at the hotel we were staying in and working in later in the week but our first job was at the Guinness factory the following day so we had a sprinter full of expensive kit we had to leave loaded overnight. We checked with the hotel about where the best and safest place to park would be.We couldn’t fit it in their car park so the C&B manager phoned the local Garda to see if we could park it outside the station. Not only that he then got in his car so we could follow him there. We went in saw the Sargent on duty who said well there isn’t really any space outside but don’t worry I’ll open up the pound and we’ll lock it up overnight for you and you can collect it in the morning. That’s how you get people on your side, not by giving people who have done nothing wrong a hard time.
