My dad’s managed to track down a copy of a biography of him, I’m just waiting for him to finish it so I can read it.

This picture is actually at the pole and in the uncropped version you can see Bowers holding the cable release. He’s a great inspiration when I’m out on the bike and the weathers crap and my hands are a little cold.

250ml of each should last me 10 years so cheaper than the single change measures I was buying.

    Just fitted a new bathroom myself;

Your in Brighton aren’t you?. Those small black tiles should show up the lime-scale a treat. 🙂

Tin openers will become redundant but everyone will still have one at the back of a draw for when the pull tab breaks.

I can’t think of a single reason why you would use steel in a full suspension bike.

My company credit card statements haven’t been checked for a couple of years. I haven’t even seen them myself. I’ve got a huge pile of receipts but I don’t think my boss can face the prospect of going through them all.

I feel totally relaxed and calm about this

I was too before I went in for mine and then Woman’s Hour ran a special that morning on complications arising from the snip. There were few stories I’d rather not have heard.

What liner do you use epicyclo?

Tubes here but I rode rigid for 12 years before getting any suspension, was using friction shifters for at least 5 years after indexed gears arrived and only got my first bike with all disc brakes last year.
I’m sure at some point I’ll try it and may well yet again wonder why I didn’t do it years ago. However I’m pretty light and can ride what I ride and how I ride it with 25 psi in the tyres without getting pinch flats and I reckon on an average of 2 – 4 punctures a year so it’s not a priority.

My mum put her fingers into the still spinning blade of a Flymo many years ago.

Another guy I’ve worked with was making set panels when he reached under the wood to clear the blade of the circular saw and pulled the trigger at the same time. The blade split his finger in half lengthways. The surgeons saved it by temporarily stitching it back together and to the adjacent finger and taking the blood supply from there.

If I look down into the eaves in my loft (over the top of the 300mm of insulation) I can see daylight and feel some breeze on my face. Can you?

Why would he be up in your loft?

I’ve been thinking along similar lines and will go for the 456 as I feel it will be more versatile and I can use my existing chainset.

I only weigh 60 in total!

I reckon a Girvin Flexstem would have been the perfect match for that Thudbuster. 🙂

I could live with someone with very different views to me but I could not and would not live with someone whose decisions in life were based on a religion or faith or belief that was not open to question.

I’d go 1 x 10. I’m currently running 1 x 9 and won’t be going back to 2 or 3 chainrings. 32 x 11-36 will give you a range that will be fine if your not at you’re fittest and you could easily change to a 34 or even a 36 as you get fitter if you want.

I am I the only person who thought the books were a load of rubbish ?

They are a good read but not great books. I enjoyed them for what they are.
I’ve finally finished reading the Harry Potter saga to my son after a couple of years, again not great books but a good read for the target market. We’re now onto Just William and they really are a different class in terms of the quality of writing as well as being good read.

I think the thing that angers many about the sentence being based on the fact that they were minors when they committed the crime is that for many years as adults they have continued to deny any responsibility for their actions and continued the suffering of his family.

The Lawrence family have given up 18 years of their lives to get this far and no doubt will give up more years still in the pursuit of justice for the other members of the gang. I can see how hard it must be to realise that the guilty may give up less.

I’d like to think that the 2 now inside will have it made known to them that they could be kept till they die if they don’t come forward with the names of the rest of the gang. may not be possible or legal but it would be worth planting the idea in their minds.

and it seems that the Bonty Mud X’s seem to be pretty close to what (I think) I’m looking for

As I was reading the first part I was thinking Mud X. I use them on my rigid bike which is the one I use whenever the weather is a bit iffy, the hardtail is mainly just a summer bike. Mine are on their second winter and do a fair few miles as I commute off road to work. They are a little draggy on the short road section of my ride but I only really notice that because it’s a mile up Bear Road which anyone who rides around Brighton will know to be a bit of an arse whatever off road tyres your using.

I find them good in all conditions and they have stood up to all the flints I regularly encounter but I’m only around 60KG so I’m probably a bit less demanding on tyres than heavier riders and they are quite narrow.

I read John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden 25 years apart and think both are utterly outstanding. I reckon any author who can seem as brilliant to you at 46 as 21 has to be pretty good.

tried that approach yesterday – water over the top of the socks!!

That’s why you need the marigolds. Cut them off at the wrist, original open end goes over your socks and the wrist grips your legs. The heavy duty ones come in black if your not into dayglo yellow or pink.

seal the ankle with gaffe tape

Cut down heavy duty Marigolds are a better option.
