Like the old maps although nothing has changed where I grew up hence we still have that map!

Quite the opposite here, Saltdean on the edge of Brighton where I am doesn’t exist in 1920 except for some coastguard cottages. Sadly Balsdean which does appear on the map and which I regularly ride through disappeared under Canadian shell fire during the war.

There are some “services” where you might for example pay for someone’s “company” for a fixed time and still the job might be over much quicker than you expected. I don’t think you can ask for a refund then either.

I haven’t used them for a while as they don’t seem to be very competitive these days. I tend to prefer those on line retailers who actually run bike shops as well and then there are all the German sites as well.

They use them at the Eden Project along with poles to do pioneering stuff in the kids area. I did let my kids help a little bit.

85 miles of it last year from home to Winchester which took me 10 hours. Still felt very good at the end and could have done the whole thing. I went at a conservative pace and waited for a day which meant I wouldn’t be headed into the wind. I’m convinced that although the total climbing is very similar in both directions that it is easier to cycle from Eastbourne to Winchester providing it’s not into a headwind. I always felt the climbs were easier, i.e. longer but less steep heading east to west. Also it’s a far easier final 15 miles to Winchester than to Eastbourne.

Update to the bb fitting, realised that the old frame was a 68mm shell. I’ve removed the spacers and now all is working well. Also lost 3 grams by removing them!

Just refitted without spacers and all is good. Thanks to herman for the prompt to actually check and not assume.

The BB shells are the same width right?

A proper check 😳 reveals that the Boardman has a 68mm shell not a 73mm as I believed. A check of the Boardman frame also shows lumps of paint all over the edge of the bb shell so the C456 which is clean should be better. I’ll try refitting now without the spacers which may have been distorted by fitting on the Boardman,s very rough bb shell.

Truvativ BBs are, IME, incredibly awful so I wouldn’t rule out that it’s knackered.

I don’t think you are alone in that opinion! It has only done around 850 miles of dry weather riding though and seemed fine on the previous frame. I suppose the true test would be to fit it to the Boardman again and see if I can get it working on that.

BB shells are the same width and are a year old and have been on my summer bike which never really gets wet. I’ve a rigid bike with good old square taper which ploughs through the mud and filth all winter. The cups went in without any issues.

Hi Andy, I’ve only just started swapping stuff over. I got the lbs to fit the slackset as it wasn’t working with my homemade headset press and the line up has to be right, which wouldn’t be a problem with a standard headset. I’ve bought a Crane Creek seatpost shim as i didn’t want to buy a new seatpost until I can afford a dropper post. I’ve just run into a problem swapping the bottom bracket over as I can’t eliminate play from the cranks without the bearings binding slightly. I’m assuming I’ll need to get the bb faced but I’ve just started another thread on this to see if that’s the STW consensus. Most other parts should go over without too many issues but the 90mm stem will have to go for something shorter at some point.

Oh and my 16″ frame weighed in at 1500g on the kitchen scales including the dropouts.

Multi effects units are just far too complicated and rarely sound better than individual pedals, unless you’re spending megabucks.

That would explain why my friend’s Pete Cornish pedal board has just gone for £1700 on ebay.

Believe me, I spent many years buying expensive rucksacs for walking, cycling and climbing, because there was no alternative.

If only you’d bought the wingnut, you wouldn’t have ended up a bitter, disappointed and disillusioned soul with a sweaty back. 🙂

Wingnut 2.5 here and I won’t be going back to a “normal” pack. I think they are much nicer to wear but whatever you get get pockets you can reach while wearing it.

What do you mean not overrun, it’s full of bloody foreigners.

No need for a Kindle if you have a smartphone or a tablet of any kind…

There is no comparison in the experience of reading on a kindle and reading on a phone or tablet.

Yes you could download dodgy books
It doesn’t really matter what make you get if you run calibre to manage your books it will convert what you have to what you need. I’ve just downloaded it and am very impressed – wish someone would do something as good for music.
Screen is not backlit so you need a light to read by in the dark, the kindle has a cover available with a light built in that is powered by the internal battery. it’s not cheap though.

Should you buy one? If you spend time travelling then yes.

no but there may be a link between extremists and extremist acts.
So let just say extremists are the most likely to bomb you and think for a minute about whether the BNP attract extremists.

I’d kind of hope MI5 might be on to that idea already. 🙂

I’ll support lifetime bans when drug testing becomes infallible. And that means no one who is cheating can evade detection and that no one who is clean can test positive.

Oh and someone needs to explain to me how athletes can be corrupted but testers and lab staff cannot.

On one still have C456’s and Whippets at £250 with no postage charges. At those prices I wouldn’t be looking at the e-bay options.

i’m a 30inch ish waist and mediums swamped me

I’m a 30 and the small are on the large side. My attacks have lasted 3 winters so far and that’s wearing them most days through the winter on my off road commute. I am tempted with the MT500 or semi drys though as it’s the mud and water thrown up that are the issue 95% of the time.

It’s not a religion, you can’t be excommunicated for putting out a fire with a cow. The cow in the extinguisher is not killed to put in there, it’s a bi product of the meat and dairy industry. It’s already dead due to the decision of people to consume meat and dairy products. Given that it has been killed to meet that demand far better that all the by- products are also used. Stop eating meat and dairy and many of these things will disappear out of products as they cease to be cheap by-products.

I thought the difference between ceramic and steel is that ceramic are harder and rounder and therefore last longer and offer lower friction. I assume they still use grease in ceramic bearings.

Even my Nikon D60 can be used in that manner, so why would you need a digital camera that only offers manual operation? That would be such a niche item that it would be so unpopular as to render it prohibitively expensive.

With a focus ring as good as a manual lens?
With a dedicated ring or dial for ISO, aperture and shutter speed?

And as for the cost the Leica range-finder’s in particular were technically obsolete years ago and not widely used by pro’s but they had a dedicated following among enthusiasts willing to pay the premium.

    AND.. it should last forever

Your only problem in the future will be finding a frame it fits in. 🙂
