found that all the wheel nuts had come out

I once made the mistake of painting a rim only to discover that you must make sure there is no paint in the bolt holes or your bolts will undo as you drive along. Fortunately I stopped as soon as I felt the very unnerving vibration and discovered the problem.

Would this work on an orange five?

No, the kona pivots around the bottom bracket so the chain length never varies.

You’ll need rack mounts for your panniers! 🙂

The primary position puts you at risk from drivers who see you and decide that you shouldn’t be there and they can get quite aggressive, however the crucial point is that they do know you are there.
Not taking up the primary position puts you at risk from every dozy idiot who isn’t really aware of anything much at all.
In the first case they have to decide to hit you in the second case it’s all down to luck.

I’d really like my Rohloff running with a belt drive one day, it’s encouraging to hear that the center track is working well. I’ve been following your’s and MTG’s posts on belt drives with great interest.

We were about to do the same when the bricklayer pointed out that the outer wall had no lintel and although that wasn’t a major problem he advised that if we were doing the work to stay long term rather than sell then he’d put a lintel in. Anyway the upshot of it was that as we decided to get the lintel done we decided also go from a 6′ opening to an 8′ one. It meant getting a structural engineer in and going through building regs but the end result is vastly better than what we would have had and well worth the extra cost involved.

Thread direction means that pedals unscrew whilst pedalling forwards, bottom bracket tightens as pedalling forwards.

I think you may be sitting on your bike the wrong way round.

litespeed frame warranty = schrodingers cat

So the frame has both failed and not failed and the OP needs to relocate to the branch of the universe in which the frame has not failed. Perhaps Litespeed should have said this as it’s more reasonable than their current position.

We warranty all of our bikes and frames from manufacturing defects for the life of the frame

Excellent a warranty that expires at the exact moment something breaks.
I don’t think anyone should offer such vague warranties, put it down in years in black and white so people can make an informed decision.

And re-post this on any other bike forums you can so that anyone else thinking of buying their products knows how long they actually consider to be the lifetime of their products.

“Have no cables rubbing and no helitape on the fame”

Some frames are much better designed in regards to cable guides than others. My Thorn Catalyst seems to have been very well thought out while my C456 seems a little less well designed!

By IPA do you mean isopropyl alcohol??

Both but be careful not to confuse them!

Every day thousands die from the result of not having access to safe water, this hot tap issue has to be the ultimate first world problem.

Wet hands, wet tape, wet bike. Water mixed with a little baby shampoo and a 25/75 mix of IPA Water for the bits you need to stretch. I didn’t find any need for the hair dryer.

I’ve had both and they both work about the same but I prefer the Mucky Nutz as it shields your fork seals and stanchions a bit as well.

I’ve just bought a 27.2 to 31.6 shim and Tredz were the only people with that size in stock (Crane Creek)when I was looking.

Might be easier to paint the frame to match the wheels. And just think of all that extra rotational weight!

I ride a rigid bike with a Rohloff hub all winter and pretty much any other time it’s wet and muddy. I wipe the chain occasionally and chuck on whatever oil is lying around and change the hub oil once a year. I ride it every day off road to work whatever the weather and never have to clean it. It just works and it’s always just ready to go. If I had to have only one bike it would be that.

I know the 456 will take a 100mm fork but it seems not too advisable.

I’ve bought a slackset for mine as I’ll be running it with 100mm forks but plenty of people run them at 100 with normal headsets. I’m just waiting for a new dropout to arrive as my Avid brakes won’t fit inside the rear triangle and then it’ll be ready to go. Hard to beat at £250 and it’s light enough for anything bar racing.

Still wouldn’t work. Sorry, couldn’t work.

Well as you can’t travel faster than the speed of light you cannot know what would or wouldn’t happen if you did. You cannot predict the result of achieving the impossible.

“Have you figured out a way of going back in time?”

Yes travel faster than the speed of light, although I can’t take all the credit for working it out.

I’d second Devils Dyke to Eastbourne on the SDW and Friston is only a short diversion off the route. As for an overnight stop just make sure it’s at the top of a hill unless you want to be washed away.

I use Rohloff oil on my Thorn Raven

I use anything lying around on my Catalyst, currently Toyota gearbox oil, and only occasionally wipe it clean.

I use Squirt on my other bike but it’s the Catalyst that comes out whenever it’s wet and muddy.

I know one person who’s life was saved by one of them.
I know another person who was killed when the jaw bar broke and was driven back through his teeth puncturing the roof of his mouth and driving through his brain.

Following comments will range somewhere between these two. 🙂

Was this a new mortgage on a property you already lived in or were you moving into a new property. If the later and it was a requirement following a survey I would have expected the vendor to meet the cost.

You preload the bearings by popping the unit out of the cap and the bolt is below. Charlie offers a non magnetic one for the compass but it does say the compass needs to be level to work properly but you can tilt the unit by 15 deg. I think i like the clock best though.

Charlie is making a more modest mark up though and if you want to buy a Bender Fender they are cheaper from him that the manufacturers once you allow for the postage costs.

I might be able to see you from the office window!

I live in Saltdean on the eastern edge of Brighton with the South Downs 2 minutes ride away and the beach much the same. I’ve also got an off road commute into work which can be anything from 6 miles to 26 depending on the weather and my mood.

I wish you hadn’t posted that binners, it’s one of those that seems to good to miss even if you don’t need them. You can get levers as well for another £11. I’m almost tempted just to avoid the prospect of having to bleed my Elixirs when the time comes.

Workstand and track pump should be bought before you even buy a bike, it took me about 25 years.
