Actually I don’t think you’ll find Scott had to worry about that my great great uncle Henry Bowers was navigating.

So you went on a test ride without what you consider the most common replacement part on a bike. 🙄

Yet again the Germans win on penalties.

Is this the third time or have I missed some.

Whatever, I’ll never tire of saying it’s Victoria Pendleton.

not in the rules. it’s quite straight forward.

    🙄

I realise it’s not in the rules otherwise he would have got a restart. I’m making the point that it would not be unreasonable if the rules were to allow a restart for a mechanical failure in the first few meters. I don’t want to see events which are basically about the physical prowess of a competitor decided by an equipment failure. Allowing a minute to restart would hardly throw the competition into chaos.

Well if he gets a restart then why not Luis Leon Sanchez in the Time Trial. It seemed a bit harsh as his chain seemed to break before he even got to the tarmac.

Just need to find a judged sport and some bent judges to say you have reached the required standard then

One of the Canadian canoeists was competing in a round where both his mother and father were judges on the course according to the BBC. Both of them gave him penalty points!

I’ve a trip coming up in a couple of weeks which means flying BA to Rome, then Alitalia to Moscow then Aeroflot to Paris and BA back to London.
Are BA the worst of those 3? Anyone who thinks BA are the worst airline around can’t have travelled with some of the carriers I’ve flown with.

A lot of hours was spent drilling, sawing and buying certain new parts to fit the 29er front down tube while
fixing the new type brakes because the sprocket replaced the back disc brake.

    😯

Just 6 times used due to my son going in the army

I guess he decided it would be safer to be shot at!

Tall is needed for the rowing and is a hell of a help in the cycling (long legs = long levers etc.)

Victoria Pendleton is 5’5″. These programs in place to look for potential athletes for the future would miss her.

and I understand that you can use non-Kindle readers to read kindle books bought from Amazon, bit it’s a bit of faff.

Use Calibre a free bit of software to manage your libary which will read all formats and convert them to the right format for the device you have attached to the pc. It’s simple, free and completely does away with format issues. Brilliant.

One thing to note on the kindle is that they are pretty fragile, it takes very little to flex the unit and crack the screen, it happens with normal use, you don’t have to drop it or sit on it to break it. If I replace mine it’ll only be with the cheapest one or I may look at the Sony though I’ve no idea if it’s any more fit for purpose than the kindle.

I’ve just joined British Cycling but that was down to a thread on here about someone unfortunate enough to be taken off the bike by a car. Seemed like a good idea to both support them and get access to legal help should the same ever happen to me.

My own rule on the road is never to go on the inside of any vehicle being driven by someone paid to do it especially when there is a left turn ahead. No buses, lorries, vans or taxis, they’ve all got to be somewhere yesterday and the drivers are always under pressure to achieve that.

Half way through “The Worst Journey In The World” when mine decided that actually I’m not up to be carried around and the screen cracked.

It’s frustrating that the only UK retailer sells only a limited range of all the models available. I’d be quite tempted with the 3″ version as although maybe not the best they seem the easiest to maintain and repair yourself.

I’m disgusted by the OP’s attitude, as someone who had to live on a grant with extra money for being in London, who had no fees to pay and who also got housing benefit and has never had to pay anything back other than through normal taxation and ended 3 years with more money in my bank account than I started with I find this attitude objectionable.

If it’s first over the line on The Mall who cares what it looks like.

Anyway I bet Realman could make it sound good if he were selling it on the classifieds. 🙂

My photos are on 2 hard drives at home and a third at work. If it’s not on at least 2 devices in 2 separate locations then it isn’t backed up. The fire or theft that takes out your computer is can take out your back up as well.

I’ve had an order in that turned out to be out of stock but they had the decency to pick up the phone and call me and offer an alternative which I was happy to accept. For that reason I would use them again but maybe not initially for anything I needed quickly.

I don’t understand why there are so many swimming events. Surely if you are racing over a distance you use the fastest stroke possible.

    +1

How can you possibly justify deliberately using a technique that is slower than the optimum? Will Usain Bolt be lining up for the 100m backwards race? As for butterfly that has as much a place in the Olympics as the three legged race.

3 times on my first ride with spd’s. I persisted for 20 years before deciding to try flats last year and wishing I’d tried them years ago. I’d ridden for 5 years before spd’s with clips and straps.

I think if you introduce a 20 limit then you will tend to at least keep people down to 30 which all in all is a good thing.

So will the Mavics still be fine for mostly XC and light trail riding?

Mine are 6 years old and have never been trued, 2 years on road commuting and 4 years off road on a rigid bike. It’s all wheels on the ground xc riding and I’m only 60KG but they have been good. The rear still has a v-brake and the ceramic coating is still in pretty good condition. Not really relevant to you but it does give an indication of the quality.

I’ve had a couple I reckon it could buy.

Why’ll the kindle is very good for reading, as good as paper I have been one of many who have discovered just how easily the screens can crack. Mine has always been in the amazon case and looked after, never dropped or sat on but it broke just being put in my laptop bag after 10 months. The problem seems to be that they are made so light that the case is just too flexible and this can lead to the screen cracking even if the unit receives no significant impact.
If your not constantly travelling then this is unlikely to be a problem but If I replace mine it will be with the cheapest model or I may look around to see if any of the alternatives are any tougher.

My bike is made to look as crap as possible

I think for once the entire stw community will agree with you TJ. 🙂

I ride everyday I’m in the office, a hub geared rigid bike all through the winter, and what has tried to pass as a summer so far and a hardtail when it’s nice. 6 miles each way 5 miles of it off road though tonight with the sun shining it’ll be a 25 mile route home.

some homeopathic mumbo jumbo, worked for me though

It’s not homoeopathic it’s a plant based treatment. You may however be correct on the mumbo jumbo conclusion as I don’t think any proper trial has shown it to work.

Went for a ride earlier which included a fair bit of roads and with the exception of one Audi I’m sure everyone was giving me more room than usual.
