It does seem frustrating that a frame designed for rigid forks with the potential for a low front end doesn’t come in a small size. It looks like the perfect frame for my next winter off road commuter as it’ll take the Rohloff but I’d want a 15-16″ frame. It does seem that a few manufacturers have decided that their 29ers will start at medium.

Another vote for Wolf Hall. Not only the best book I’ve read this year but one of the best I’ve ever read. Naranjada have you got to the account of Anne’s coronation, the page describing the gargoyles is stunning, I haven’t read a page of fiction that well written since I got to the last page of The Grapes of Wrath nearly 30 years ago.

The company could just buy the bikes, and let the employees use them.

This is what I did through work. One thing to be aware of is that in this situation the company is responsible for the bike being in a safe condition. I appointed myself as bicycle safety officer. 🙂 None of the others have taken up the opportunity although one keeps threatening to do so.

2 hard drives at home and one at work. If all your photos are in one physical location then it doesn’t matter on how many drives they are on they are not backed up!

The realisation that I am never, ever, ever right.

The realisation that although I am always right this is not the ultimate goal in life. I have however no idea what the ultimate goal actually is.

I’ve never understood why The Usual Suspects doesn’t end as Spacey’s foot finally straightens and he begins to walk normally. I cannot figure for the life of me why you’d throw away one of the best film endings ever for the sake of those not quite bright enough to catch on.

When my now wife first moved in with me 20 odd years ago we were walking past a local charity shop when I pointed out they had the same delightful 70’s china that I had. She went very quiet and quickly changed the subject.

I’ve found the Leyland white emulsion in 20L buckets much better than the Crown paint I was using previously and it’s pretty cheap at Screwfix. I’ve found a single coat of that thinned down till it’s runny very effective and subsequent coats have gone on fine without being thinned. I mix it by eye but I’d estimate around 1/3rd water 2/3rds paint. One thing you might find is that the paint can craze or crack where you have used caulk in which case you need to thin the paint in those areas. It seems to be a problem with modern paints that contain a lot of filler but it’s easy to get round and the coverage of the paint is excellent.

I got a red one earlier in the year when they’d dropped the price to £250, not a second either. I couldn’t resist it at that price. But as others have said on other posts about carbon fibre frames – why shouldn’t they be as cheap if not cheaper than frames made from any other material. Because it’s light and strong we all seem to accept that it must be expensive when there’s no good reason for it.

    Anybody tried running a 96er

I’ve got Pace RC31’s 440mm on my off road commuter and put a 29″ wheel on the front over the summer. It was pretty good and the increase in comfort was noticeable over downland as hard as concrete, but it wasn’t as manoeuvrable. I’ve gone back to a 26 over the winter as I have a dynamo hub in that wheel. If I were buying a rigid bike again I’d certainly be looking at 29″ wheels.

He was a guest speaker at a conference I was working on 10 years or so ago. I and 99% of the audience had no idea who he was but for 90 minutes he had a totally captivated audience. Speaking to him before and afterwards he didn’t come across as someone comfortable just chatting but he sure knows how to tell a story.

You can add a bit of the cleaning oil to the rohloff when it gets very cold to thin it out a bit.

A few years ago Wiggle announced 20% of all waterproofs and at the same time they moved the event Gill Pro Speed in to the windproof category. They assured me that one decision was made by the technical department and one made by the marketing department. I think they were lying.

My mother in law travelled three floors into the basement in her cot during the Blitz and still has a mirror that was in the bedroom and also survived the journey with her.

I assume the map shows all bombs dropped including the pretty high percentage of dud ones.

I’ve used altura attacks for 2 winters of off road commuting and been very happy with them. I’ve bought some semi drys as well now as I wear them every day in the winter and the attacks are overkill for dealing with mud and puddles when it’s not actually raining.

If you want to change the world you don’t read the rules. Why is it that in sport we want to people to follow the rules but that in all other aspects of life we recognise it’s those that throw away the rule book that change the world?
