Yeah, if you’re worried though get Stan’s rims as they’re designed to be tubeless using non tubeless tyres.

Same experience here, never got 24hr delivery when forced to use it by the retailer. The process of claiming back your money has been made over complicated in order to put you off. Interlink express are just as bad and have never delivered on the arranged day.

Superfli, is that a Raleigh Burner I see hiding in your garage? Please tell me you’re saving it for your son.

Right pedals have a right hand thread and lefts a left hand thread, most use a 15mm spanner to tighten, allen key fittings are 6 or 8mm. Grease the threads before you put them on. You don’t need to lean on the tool to tighten them as they will get tighter as you ride. DMR make great pedals but the Wellgo copies are just as good and far cheaper.

Currently using Raceface Evolve XC ( 680mm ) but fancy going a bit wider. Most wide bars I’ve been looking at are more of the downhill variety and have too great a rise for my liking. Will probably go down the flats and bar ends route instead.

If you have tracks stored outside the itunes library, the consolidate function puts them in itunes and arranges them correctly.

+1 for the Montane, had 2 years of constant wear and rough packing from mine and still good to go. If you’re quick you can get a limited edition black and red one. Buffalo make some similar stuff too.

New XTR Trail? Heard that R1s are getting difficult to find as nobody is importing them, so spares might be a problem. Can’t really offer advice on which as I’m after something similar myself. Not having Shimano again though as my current ones have been a constant headache.

+1 for Montane pertex stuff. Their Extreme Smock is great for really cold weather biking and comes with vents for when things get sweaty.

You get a tiny plastic washer with it that allows you to adjust the chainline by 1mm, not much but may make a difference if needed. MRP now make a version that clamps to the seat tube if you prefer.

Keep the bridge cable short as this gives a more positive feel. Routing the cable with the smoothest possible curves will also help. Can’t see that you will have a problem with the levers, you should only get problems if doing it the other way. Keep the blocks a long way from the rim if you’re worried, you can always adjust later. Be careful, cantis tend to be very on/off.

Sealskins stuff is awful, have Gore Tool gloves and they’re the best I’ve had, check the sizing though as I needed a size up from what the size guide says.

Have Humvees and the waist popper is a bit of a pain, but don’t want to give them up as they are the only short I’ve come across with an OS map sized pocket. Quality is fantastic and they still look like new with 2000 miles on the clock. I believe the Singletracks are made from a thinner fabric which will probably breath better, I thought they seemed expensive though as they don’t come with a liner.

Give Merlin a call, they’ve been really helpful when I’ve asked about max tyre and rotor sizes.

Eggbeaters don’t clog with mud as much so should make an ideal winter pedal, except that the bearings last about five minutes in same mud. Also think that Eggbeaters are expensive for what they are. Would suggest Look pedals as a cheaper, more robust alternative with the same weight saving.

Everybody seems to think they are great, but for that price they’d bloody have to be. For that sort of cash you can almost have a ti frame or get a steel one custom built. Love the look of them but just can’t justify the expense for steel.

Coolmax socks, chainring bolt spanner, Pedros tyre levers and Jelly Babies. The tenner rule makes it far too difficult to come up with inspired choices.

All types but Organic produce a lot of squeal, especially when wet. The kevlar ones are IMO the worst for this and sound like a flock of geese when you haul the anchors on.

Never used them as it seems a really expensive way of keeping cables clean. As I have slotted cable guides, keeping them clean is never a problem anyway. If you’re a lazy mechanic, consider Middleburn cable oilers.

Apparently the formula is your shoulder width plus four inches, just measured and found that this is spot on for what I’m using. But as with most bicycle related formulas, it could all be bollocks.

nbt, was really trying to make the point that if I can get it next day, why can’t the shop? We can all have net access if we want it.

Go hiking. Every year I do a long distance trail of about 200 miles and every year I’ve lost between a half and three quarters of a stone by the time I get home and I’m only eleven stone to begin with. The weight just seems to fall off.

Where have you been riding downhill in Essex? Would be interested to know as I’m also an Essex boy and really want to have a go. Also, what tyres do you use to handle the awful Essex clay?

Ask to see the idiots mechanics qualification. Think the LBS may be in decline as mine never have what I want in the size I want and tell me I can have it within a week. Why would I bother when I can get it next day on the web? I can also buy the tools I need to my own mechanics for about the same price as they will charge to do the job once and I don’t need to leave my bike with them for a week. Shops like cycleking will always stay in business as they are usually used by those looking for a cheap bike with no mechanical knowledge. Since cycling split into it’s many different disciplines it becomes very difficult for shops to stock everything the enthusiast wants and the net makes it all so accessable ( I’m staring at a CRC advert as I type this ). I would miss my LBS if it goes but I’m afraid to say that they just don’t cater for my needs.

Can’t believe Pennywise and NOFX haven’t been mentioned yet. Or The Damned, or The Clash. THE RAMONES. Must stop now or I’ll just keep going on. Punk’s not dead, it just smells at way.
