And after the in house investigation report under riddor if it is deemed necessary. Varying time scales apply.

RIDDOR events need to be reported to the HSE within 10 days.

Has workshop equipment testing been carried as required?

^This. If I’ll effects have been suffered it would be reportable under RIDDOR.

PUWER come into play with regards to the working condition of the test equipment.

The incident would also involve COSHH regulations as well.

I have just seen bits of his interview. Very evasive is how I would describe his answers.

To quote Blackadder, “The whole thing smells fishier than the contents of Baldricks apple crumble”.

There is something about the Tissot that looks cheap and I can’t put my finger on it. I have a Tissot Visodate with the silver dial and it’s a lovely thing. They’re worth looking at. Has a standard 2824 rather than a Powermatic.

I too have a Visodate and really like it. I would wish it was a couple of mm smaller though.

With regards to the Tissot above, roman numerals on a watch, no no no.

Watched Le Mans ’66 yesterday, loved it. Had never heard of Ken Miles before, it’s quite the story. Definitely worth a watch!

Just back from this. I thought it was excellent.

Just to throw something else into the mix, sat at Village B for the Classic, and that was really good

Am I right in saying Village B has a roof? Spent a bit of time in Village A which didn’t. OP mentions Village A as a possible location. The action was good there but with sun out it felt a overly warm, and might be miserable in the rain.

None, luffield is by far the best place, luff b for preference! Been 3 times and on the friday sat in every stand to check 🙂

I did the same at free practice this year but disagree with Luffield.

It has a slow corner, end of hanger straight so you get action, plus the cars are quite slow through but then hammer it down to copse (flat out almost) then the maggots/beckets bit so you really see how fast they are.

Are you sure you mean Luffield? You can’t see maggots/beckets, copse or the Hangar Straight from Luffield unless it’s on the screen.
My preference was the far end of the next stand along (Woodcote A). We sat looking down the entire length of the Wellington straight, then the slow Brooklands/Luffield complex before watching the cars almost the whole length of the National Pit Straight as far as Copse. The cars are in your line of sight for ages. I felt that from the West end of Woodcote A, I could see everything I could from Luffield and a whole lot more.

I think the greeting card industry needs to go altogether… All those trees, all that fuel in transportation for what? For someone to look at a card then throw it in the bin a few days later. One of man’s less intelligent inventions as far as I’m concerned.

It would be interesting to know the carbon footprint of the card industry.
It’s not right to say its killing off trees. If we did not have a card industry, the trees would not be planted to support it. Is the production and transport pollution offset by the life of the tree? I dont know.

The business model of Clinton’s does seem a bit s**t though. I understand people hoping to preserve the skills and knowledge of their high street butcher and baker, but what does the high street card retailer bring to the specialist table?

I’ve been watching that series too OP, it’s very well done, but certainly makes me feel even less proud to be British than usual…

Exactly. The civil rights movement in NI is never taught in schools for example. I think we are quick to learn about civil rights in The US for as we can have a sense of self righteousness about it, but we do not learn about important conflict and arguments much closer to home. Whatever opinion we take on issues such as this, it would surely be better achieved by being armed with knowledge.

I have worked in private schools for the past 10 years, and the quality of the children we produce is truly amazing.

That quite an odd turn of phrase by someone working in the education sector of our youngsters to come out with. It’s how Gregg Wallace would describe Bakewell Tarts coming off the production line at the Mr Kipling factory.

All countries should be reducing their use of fossil fuels and investing in alternatives. Fossil fuels will run out, they pollute the environment, and contribute to the Climate Emergency. Carrying on business as usual is short sighted in the extreme.

Things are changing, but perhaps not fast enough. I know through bitter first hand experience. Coal use in the UK has dropped off a cliff in the last 5-7 years.

I think their was potential mileage in carbon capture and storage, however this was funding fossil fuels and subsidies dried up a few years ago.

    athgray

Seems crazy to subsidise fossil fuels by billions more than we do renewables. What’s that about a Climate Emergency?

Things are not as simple as that report suggests involver. It highlight Germany as a beacon of hope. Although now changing, Germany is more reliant on its coal sector than we are.

Also Germany has no real oil and gas sector. I think I read that Germany is reliant on importing 95% of the gas it uses. The UK is reliant on about 50% imports. Believe me, I am sure Germany is happy enough for other countries to subsidise their oil and gas industries on Germanys behalf. I imagine the same applies to other European countries with minimal oil and gas sectors.

I imagine that leaves Germany with more money in the pot to put up wind farms.

It’s very good. I like She’s the One.
I like my atmospheric drum an bass. Here is one from a classical violinist and pianist, turned his hand to dnb.

They can’t go for the record this year – no rocket fitted afaik.

I wasnt sure whether the record was achievable or not without the rocket.

I know they needed it to aim for 1000mph.

I think their plan it to have test runs up to 500mph with a return next year to go for the record.

I wish they would have a go at it this year.

What hasn’t been answered, is how the bloke managed to get to the bottom of the ladder, which is 15’ from the ground, even before climbing the rest of the way to the top.

An investigation will determine this. Commenting on it here would be pure guess work of little value.

It does seem odd that someone didn’t just climb up, clip a harness around him an lower him down.

    No it doesn’t.

Would you climb up that ladder with a large unsecure load directly above you? I bet the fire officer in charge had to consider it in their risk assessment.

The vibrations on the ladder caused by your movement could have brought the mans body down on your head.

Indirect routes – take a right just before Broughton onto B712, past Stobo, over the Meldons into Eddleston is lovely. From there A703 is fast and quite busy but usually OK – side roads if you take a left back towards A701/ Lamancha after about 2km, or a right towards Temple and Carrington and in through SE Edinburgh.

This is what I thought. Moffat to just before Broughton, then right through Drumelzier and Stobo. Quick right then left at Lyne Station to join the road over the Meldons. Pop out at Eddleston. Head up the A703 for a couple of miles then turn right at Cowieslinn Quarry, past Gladhouse Reservoir and Temple to pop out at Gorebridge.

Mine’s from the 80s IIRC, USSR on the dial. Tiny wee things by today’s standards, aren’t they?

They are. Mine are both 36mm case diameter. That’s my sweet spot size. I have a selection of Raketas, Vostoks, Poljots and Pobedas. I love them.

I tend to get them on ebay looking a bit battered and scratched for £10-£20, but as the crystal’s are acrylic, a polish with poly watch really takes out scratches. Remove the movement and put the case and bracelet if it has one in a hydrosonic bath. It’s quite satisfying seeing the muck drop off them.

My daily watch for work is an inexpensive Casio F91-W.

I did splurge recently to dip my toe into the Swiss market and bought a used Tissot Visodate. It looks nice but feels huge compared to all the other watches I have.

You are talking my language with those watches Johannes. I have the same Casio but with the round indices rather than Arabic numerals.

I also have a couple of old Sekondas in my vintage Russian collection.

Kammy missing the red card at Portsmouth was absolute gold and still leaves me in tears when I watch it

This x1000. It’s pure comedy gold. “What…. a red card Geoff….. I must have missed that???. Whist turning back and forth.

    “What has happened Chris Kamara?”

“I dont know Geoff.. I dont know?????”

Johnson’s deal also breaches May’s self-imposed red line re. border in Irish Sea. Despite which, she voted for it today. For May, Brexit means any old shit.

To be fair, May’s red lines were set in part due to the ghost of Ian Paisley shouting ‘Never, Never, Never!” in her ear.

Doris Johnson is less hamstrung by the neanderthal numb skulls of the DUP than she was.

Similar to others, the scale of space. Voyager 1 will pass by a star in 40,000 years, and voyager 2 will pass by Sirius in around 300,000 years, and these are our near neighbours in the universe.

However World Rugby have really let everyone down by focusing entirely on developing a new market this tournament has become all about the bottom line and not the rugby.. World Rugby gambled that the tournament would not be hit by a typhoon. In typhoon season.

Japan has hosted plenty of major sporting events on or around typhoon season. Formula 1, world athletics championships, next years olympics and the football world cup (although that was in June, just outside peak typhoon season.

If World Rugby have got it wrong then so does the FIA, IAAF, IOC and FIFA.

which is fine as long as there is a minium width for pedestrians.

    Which is what exactly?

When my 2 daughters were younger we had a double width pushchair. There were plenty of times close to my house when drivers probably thought they had left enough room, but I would have to take the push chair onto the road.
