ta for the advice all. It’s an out and back course and looks like it will be out into, and back with the wind. How to factor that in. Say the wind is ~10mph

Best TT advice I ever heard was to have a strawberry yoghurt before the race. That way when you puke it doesn’t taste so bad

    love it 😆

actually having a bit of a nightmare just now – the new wheel I ordered to replace one I broke last Saturday just turned up, but isn’t dished properly (aargh) so it doesn’t sit in the middle of the frame – factory built wheels eh! – that’ll teach me to try to save money. Supplier has agreed to replace in time for next Saturday’s TT.

Just go ride it. Have fun, just go see what it’s all about.

yes, thanks, I think that’s gonna have to be pretty much the plan.

I have a heart rate monitor (well I should get it back from Polar in time) and hope to use that to stop me exploding totally! I will warm up too.

Should I ride the 6 hilly miles to the start or drive do you think?

it will be useless for mtb due to the impact and sudden movements you do when out on the bike.

nothing like informed comment is there! well done sui, why not just rubbish it before you’ve even seen it –

it is possible to text the emergency services on 112 if you register your phone for that service, so you could get it to do that instead of relying on someone else to do it for you

I can’t work out what’s happened as I definitely sat on and tried a 60 in the shop and agreed to buy it but this one is a 57!!!!!!! What a plonker

I think a phone call to decathalon and a bike fit on a 60 is the way forward!!!

definitely change it if you can – good luck

    29ers are actually 28ers.

well actually 700c is smaller than the old 27″ standard on road bikes, So 29ers are actually smaller than 27ers which makes them 26″?

    [/quote]

no, no, no, they are 26.5″ obviously, ’cause that’s what “makes the trail come alive”

I’ve been riding aluminium bikes for years and currently a Cannondale CAAD4. Am thinking about upgrading to a newer model, but whether to choose an CAAD10 or a carbon Supersix (or a carbon Bianchi) doesn’t seem like an easy choice. Tempted to go with what I know (aluminium) unless you (and more test rides) can convince me that carbon is really better

I struggle with this too – it is weak core plus for me an old injury. It needs stretching and strengthening exercises pretty continuously. But the problem isn’t the bike. Riding will actually help with flexibility and strength as long as you arnt actually injured at the time. So, stretch, do Pilates (or similar) and don’t stop riding as and when you can-build slowly

No, 29is on the way out – you’re looking at stock that reflects last year and the year before . It not fair is it the manufacturers messing like this, but either go 26 or wait

    Don’t walk in road shoes
Do wear road shoes and cleats on a road bike – they support your foot so much better than SPDs
Wear SPDs on off road or for when you need to walk a bit
    Not so hArd is it

26″ – less angular momentum – easier to stop:-)

strange thing was that ceramic coatings on the less expensive Mavic SUP 117CD Ceramics I had on a ’96 Cannondale seemed to last for ever with no delamination at all

I test rode a few 29ers – didn’t like them so I didn’t buy them (for me they seemed hard work to steer and a bit heavy, but then I’m only small) I’m sure I will ride a 650b one day but I’m in no rush

maybe a naive question but is there really any benefit in just taking the big ring off to go from 3×9 to 2×9?

I’m a big fan of 2×10 – if a things worth doing, do it properly

Please, please – no more threads about xxxxing Lance!

Pantani was a deeply flawed man who killed himself through his own demons whilst also providing fantastic theatre whilst Armstrong was a lying shit who deliberately set out to destroy other people’s lives and careers.
This. The reason I, and many others despise Armstrong isn’t only because he doped.

It’s all general guidance though so application on a particular site can need a bit of common sense / judgement of appropriateness.

that’s really true – a lot of the US stuff might seem a bit theoretical/idealistic if you have to work/ride in a good old soaking wet clay based british woodland

and then if you keep the bike long enough, the depreciation effectively stops and you can “ride for free”. Eventually people think you are being retro on purpose:-)

Those were the days when your rigid mtb was your XC, downhill and enduro bike all in one. The only difference in wheel size was the tyre width.

Life seemed so much simpler then 🙂

it can still be – it is for me, just one fully rigid mtb:-) have swapped the smoke/darts for XC pros but other than that, not much has changed
