Surely it’s all rock if you go down far enough

Well if you go far enough it’s metal (no really)

Scott: “When discussing the pros and cons of the big wheeled bikes, shorter riders find themselves in an ambivalent situation. They want to benefit from the 29” wheels, but suffer from the negative effects when fit is considered. Additionally, the increase in rotational weight challenges many lower watt producing riders, so the performance gains are negated when the rider cannot accelerate the wheel system as quickly. The solution for many riders is 27,5”. The new wheelsize standard combines the best of both worlds, 29” and 26”.”

So it’s your fault you short arsed, low watters!

test rode a Bianchi infinito cv last week – it was xxxxing amazing to ride – so different from what I thought was a reasonable Alu framed bike

The reverse parking thing is pretty much standard through the oil industry. It’s complete b*llocks though,

I have this image of people keep backing over the edge of the dock

I agree, this has probably been my favourite whelk size thread so far, and while it has been active it does seem to have prevented any other more annoying ones from starting

Okay then as edlong said, suck it up. Within the site they have a duty of care and can enforce whatever safety clothing they deem suitable.

tend to agree with this. Unless hi viz would only be compulsory for cyclists and not for pedestrians, you will have a hard time arguing against it. But ask them for the evidence that hi viz reduces risk anyway…

Who says when its low light?

    the Umpires, obviously!

does the employer have any evidence to show that cyclists are/would be safer when wearing hi viz? An answer along the lines of “well its obvious init?” isn’t good enough

do they have any information on the costs, and if so what are they going to do about that?

    etc etc

The Smoke is a recent reissue btw.

yes, and that’s because the market really wanted it!

just proves that if there’s genuine demand someone will supply the parts and take the profit quite happily

rp – I agree. So maybe a smaller angle of attack on a bigger wheel means less spring compression, but then this would be counterbalanced by the greater mass of the larger wheel – so maybe you shouldn’t care too much about angle of attack for a bike with suspension

depends on what you mean by efficient? Dont you just store up the energy from hitting the bump (and not lifting the suspended parts of the bike) in the springs? Isnt this energy then released again after the bump pushing backwards on the bike?

but if the cranks are too long they will hit the ground however much the dropper goes up and down – I can see it now… 😆

maybe the answer is bigger wheels – no wait isnt that circular?

don’t really get mikewsmiths post, but the differences are really small. And since when did we all lose the ability to lift or unweight our wheels when riding?

you’re right those diagrams from Giant are complete crap

The guy on the brompton in the vid is an arrogant ill mannered idiot who risks giving us cyclists all a bad name – all the waffle about the law (or not) above misses the point

Wrong. They were testing 650b three years ago.

So they tested them 3 yrs ago and decided to stay with 26″ on their bigger bikes. This must say something about the “massive” increase in performance they found 27.7″ to give, pretty much F all for the average rider.[/quote]

No. No, you don’t understand, JCL knows better -it is so apparent

Matt, your not making any sense – he’s saying they are more likely to offer you a 650B as a replacement for a broken 9er, not that 9ers will be around for long into the future

I’ve said it on here before but if you really look into the reason why 650b29er came along it was only ever a pure marketing decision from companies

the recent resurgence is due to the advances in LED technology.

do the new dynamos cause less drag then than the old ones because the new LEDs need less power or something?

    asterix

I’m amazed that dynamo lights haven’t (apparently) become obsolete because of the advances in battery and LED technology. do they really do something that cant be done better in another way? (I had dynamo lights when I was a kid and they were awful then)

didnt the motorcycle world go through the transition to upside down forks years ago?

Yes, but it was (and still is) the case that the USD forks weighed considerably more to keep them stiff

Yes I agree that’s what I understood too.

What we are seeing here is market(ing) forces. THe only benefit I see to USD MTB forks is the LBS’s will clean up

this made me smile – shock horror stuff changing to keep the market alive – bit like wheel sizes 😆

nasty – feel sorry for you

I doubt any bike frame materials would be OK after a fire like that, certainly not heat-treated aluminium, so its not a problem with carbon fibre (or Cannondale for that matter) – will you get insurance for a fire?

    asterix

Just be very careful not to get it on your skin or in your eyes – it really is dangerous stuff.

If you put too much in water the heat released can boil the water and you get nasty alkaline fumes coming off. – don’t breathe that in!

Please please please can we stop associating “vitamins” and cycling

Cycling has no special nutritional needs over and above any other normal healthy pursuits.

for too long drugs were falsely described as “vitamins” – please stop
