That’s not an area I know really (have been to Carcassone which is worth a visit). The IGN 1:25,000 maps are pretty good (and usually cheaper to buy them once you are out there), but I guess they might be too detailed if you are doing long road rides. Anyway have fun, the Pyrenees are great 🙂

the more they push 29er the more it will backfire

this is a really stupid thread based on guess what a specialised employee talking up 29ers – well no sh1t!

First I think you will benefit a lot from getting proper road shoes and pedals instead of SPDs

I have some of these r170 wide fit[/url]

Having said that my 15 year old son has and absolutely loves a Specialised hard rock 26er for exactly that sort of riding – just seen they have gone over to 29er now – depends how tall he is I guess

I can only report many years of good experiences with various Cannondales both mtb and road. Havent tried exactly those models though

I’ve canoed it – its a great trip. Like Kayak23, don’t think there are bike trails all along right by the river, but still worth investigating. Go for it

Great first post, feel good for you. Like said above so much better than all the crap about wheels etc. We should all try to remember how it feels after a great ride and use that as help to get out again.

the chance of 26 being discontinued is pretty small. there is a lot on here about the bigger wheels, but by far most bikes actually in use today are 26in. Its like with motobikes – its easy to focus on the small number of superbikes sold, but its the millions of step-thru mopeds that really count

Might be worth checking out what’s available at (edX) – they are doing some excellent courses

+1 to what wrecker said. 650B doesn’t help the tall ones and that is how the population is changing. Women and smaller guys (inc me) are well suited to 26. No need for 650 – not as good for rolling over the bumps not as quick to steer – just in the middle

You are really not helping the bike industry here. Just causing customers to get pi55ed with the manufacturers for forcing the ‘new’ marketing wheel-sizes on them and making them argue too. If your that insecure in your ability to sell enough in a recession you might be better not to reveal it

well as an industry stooge you would say that

I’m 5’8″ and didn’t like the ones I’ve tried (several including spesh camber, scott scale carbon comp) I found them hard to steer quickly although the full suss did mop up the rocks well and the Scot rolled well. Both suffered from poor fork lock out, but that’s nothing to do with wheel size. I loved the dropper posts

This thread is now repeating posts from a previous wheelsize thread!

so it can’t purely be the slope of the river.

no, that’s right, there are lots of factors like the cross-sectional shape of the river bed and how that affects where, and how deep and fast the flow is

    asterix
    Free Member

it depends on a lot of things but a key factor for flow rate is the height drop along the river (or the slope of the river). This is probably more important than water depth

that’s rubbish, real proper bikes have stems of 110 or more;-)

it looks like the OP is changing stuff on the FB page (e.g. next months ‘segment’ looks like more of a loop in a forest that may not be BWs, and there is mention of a ‘revised mission statement’), which I think sounds good and they should get some applause for that

First off, just to say that I hate the idea of the compensation culture that is developing. But sometimes people should sue, because they need to.

I knew someone who was in a normal family car that got hit by a rally car exiting a special stage and joining the public roads.

The rally car wasn’t racing at the time just “hurrying” between special stages. The family in the car lost one life and the other three suffered severe injuries. The rally car wasn’t really damaged (but that’s beside the point). In cases like this a law suit is the right thing so that the injured can try to get their lives back on track.

tbh There are far, far better places to go for a couple of days riding

    Personally, I’d avoid Salisbury Plain.

I agree with these two comment given above.

Ecky – your last reply made me smile sir

[edit – actually the only point I made above was that it was unwise to publicly promote a race on a BW. It is, however, also unwise to promote a race on a BW. And it is also unwise to race on a BW]

this reminds me of the Wesley Crushers 🙂

sorry Ecky, but all that stuff about “what we are expected to be seen to do” is a load of waffle.

I do agree with you that debate about what’s OK and what isn’t OK is fine.

But there’s no need to be fuzzy about the issue in this case -it was not wise to publicly promote a race on a BW; it is illegal to do that.

    what are you talking about?
