So what do we call a 650 front 560 rear bike then?

all supported by rubbish explainations of physics ….

Yeh and I guess unsurprisingly They never did manage to come up with anything convincing from the physics to show 29er was faster did they HaHa

    Hi Mattg

were in the east midlands with pretty muddy trails and trips to neighbouring trail centres (e.g sherwood cannock and wales occasionally, cornwall lakes etc) some of the guys do more jump stuff at chicksands but I am old and riding xc. we have a few fixies too. I used to ride surrey hills before it was call that – just ranmore common down to Leith hills and around there

it is interesting though to see that range of how different things are in different places

agree with the “everyone should ride what makes them happy”

yes! really our group rides with about 25 – 30 locals here and there is 1, yes one, guy (over 6ft) who has just got a 29er – the rest of us are on 26ers and quite happy. its not as though we only ride occasionally

The UK has different conditions and a dedicated mountain biking community (with its own trails and events) that has grown up with 26ers. That’s not to say there aren’t all sorts of other bikes and events (cross, road) run as well though. We do suffer somewhat from the US pushing stuff on us without bothering to understand us. Just because the US does it doesn’t make it right

seem to be plenty of 29ers riding xc round here this weekend 😆

@miketually – man, great route, but I’m surprised you can move after all those pies!

I have a rough rule that I don’t drive for longer than I would end up riding. So I wont drive for more than 3 hours to do a 3 hour cross counry ride/event. I only go a long way to ride if I am staying over and get two or three days riding in

definitely report the driver of the corsa

don’t muddle the issue by mentioning strava

well I think it made me faster, but I accept that probably the best thing to do would be for me the rider to get a bit more aero [and I’m lucky in that I have the potential for a few Kgs weight loss too )

so I could probably “beat” a few more riders in the sportives and the feeling would be good – worth £1000s? I dont know, but then I have splashed that sort of amount on other types of toys before

hmmm. so its likely to be the frame rather than the wheels – oh well

in truth I dont know what the tyre pressures were on the foil. I usually ride at 120 psi on my bike.

but some Chinese “cheap, fairly light full carbon clinchers” sound tempting – any links?

cant you squeeze 1.5 kg of bike stuff into your hand luggage?

a friend of mine once flew with the rear subframe for his citroen which had broken down in Spain as hand luggage – they just asked him to put caution heavy stickers on it

Not sure I would stop and challenge anyone though as I can’t imagine it would be a constructive debate

You’re right. I certainly wouldn’t recommend getting into any roadside discussion or debates, as these things usually don’t help. Instead, ride with a go-pro on and use the video as evidence.

    HT’s are ‘easier’ to ride

really – do you really mean this? why then do we (well some riders) bother with relatively heavy, expensive FS bikes?

just bought a 2013 Scott speedster 20 with Tiagra groupset for £810 – its not carbon but still seems excellent value

are the Audis relatively bigger on the outside and smaller than you would expect on the inside because they have more safety stuff in their design?

maybe we could run a side event to see who could get the fastest recorded speed 😆

I know the OP explicitly focussed on estates, but are taller things (e.g. XC60, Q5, Discovery) any good for biking? Are they too tall to put bikes on the roof (unless maybe you are chalky46)

I’m a novice in all this but why do you want to use both viewranger and endomondo? Cant you record your track in viewranger (and then export it to e.g. endomondo later)?

and results are printed in order of fastest to slowest

    wrong

It’s a race if it wasn’t there would be tea and cake stops

    wrong

the New Forest though. The nimbyest place in the universe

maybe – I’ve not seen objections to other sportives
