If the package’s destination is not immediately served by a major airport or is located in a remote area, it is introduced into a ‘feeder’ aircraft network. The cargo area is not pressurized in many feeder aircraft and when necessary, these aircraft ?y at altitudes that affect the environmental conditions in the cargo area. When exposed to these conditions, products and/or packages may be unfavourably affected by the changes in pressure and temperature.

I would worry about leaving any pressure on your brake lines because during the flight the seals will have to withstand a much larger pressure drop than normal

I suppose an overland ride is completely out of the question? Could be the trip of a lifetime

spent part of my weekend marshalling a temporary / rolling closed road race – this was fully legal as all of the necessary Road Traffic Orders were in place. Virtually all of the drivers I had to stop were quite relaxed and happy to wait for the ~3 minutes it took for the race to pass by.

Why is my highest torque when I accelerate hard from a stand, rather than when I’m at my fastest?

because acceleration requires a force, but no force is required (other than to overcome frictional losses) to maintain a constant velocity – Newton’s first law init

I’ve always thought belt drive was inferior. The motorcycle industry tried it (e.g. on the Kawasaki Z305 – IIRC), and gave up as far as I know. It is very difficult to beat a chain (e.g. in terms of power losses) and buying unusual products is always going to tend to be expensive.

wont most good LBS’s agree to supply the wheels you want (for a price – obviously) rather than the stock wheels that come with a certain bike model? For my most recent bike purchase I just told the LBS what I wanted and there was no “sorry you can only have the basic wheels” or “well we can supply the wheels you want, but you have to buy the wheels that come with the bike as well”

I am a big Cannondale fan, but I found the Synapse too upright, so instead went for a Bianchi InfinitoCV with ultegra

and yes my bike is worth more than my car :-)

Don’t think being carbon would stop it turtling

you could add buoyancy by filling the boom with foam (but check it isn’t going to foul any internal bits of string). I can walk along my carbon boom without turtling quite reliably – RS100)

By the way I also use a fork mounted Thule rack system for my carbon roadbike (and my thin aluminium framed bikes)

Unless it’s muddy and you want to keep the car clean?

Discussion at the sailing club the other day about capsize technique for dingies with ‘wings’ that stop you just leaning back and stepping over.

The consensus is apparently: Aluminium boom, you’re going for a swim! Carbon boom, step down onto the boom as it hits the water, and walk upto the mast and arround the front! Apparently aluminium booms aren’t anywhwere near as strong as we’d like to think they are and would snap if you stepped onto one. Having said that, someone had managed to snap a carbon one with their head during a gybe!

Aluminium boom, you’re going for a swim! – agree that this is likely.

Apparently aluminium booms aren’t anywhwere near as strong as we’d like to think they are and would snap if you stepped onto one – don’t agree, but if you step on them they sink and will turtle the boat

    PS what type of boat?

    PPS wrong forum?

really enjoyed the show. Great to see such fantastic attention to details and finishes on bikes. Good example were the bikes from Feather, Baldwin and (dare I say it ) the trike by Geo. Longstaff – there were loads of other good stuff too. All good except for one clothing company whose stuff was really surprisingly poor quality. A bit of a shame they couldn’t put the Paris-Roubaix on the big screen, but all in all really good day out

Fulcrum Racing 1 tubeless and Fusion 3 tyres here for a couple of years. Lower pressures (10psi ish) = faster and comfier (though faster is subjective). No punctures either. No lighter though. Would recommend.

You do need specific tubeless rims though. You don’t want a blow out or a tyre rolling off the rim at road speeds.

I just bought some Fulcrum 1 two ways – what do you put in them as the sealant? is there a recommended kit or something? cheers:-)

JCL you keep on comin on here ans saying that 29er are faster but whats the evidence for that? – we’ve done this point many times in all the threads before – there isnt any evidence for it – its just wishful thinking/ marketing BS/ trolling

Well, if the market trend is anything to go by, it would appear that many people tried 29 and wanted less!

Quite a few did, but wanted more than the 26, or at least then saw 26 with new less approving eyes. So, here’s 650B.

I don’t think that happened at all – it might be the story the industry told/is telling, but some liked 29, others didn’t and wanted to stay with 26. No-one outside the industry was calling for 650B.

it is the beginning of the end for the 29er

Think you might have the 9 upsidedown!!

No that has already begun, this is the start of the end for the 29er too

it isn’t a very well done survey with all those repetitive and imprecise questions, but then the strategy document, plan and associated maps are pretty quick to look at. I just looked at them, came to a view and wrote a few comments in some of the boxes and cross referred to those from the other boxes. Only took a few minutes.

It would take a long time to really get into any details about particular routes, but I dont think thats what they want or are ready for

well I replied to their survey. It seemed to me that the strategy was full of fine words, but that the plan was almost completely unfunded and didn’t really include mountain biking (am I wrong?). Also, all of the biggest projects are kicked down the road into “the long term”. Overall the plan dosen’t really seem credible and it seems unlikely to make much difference.

I would strongly support the idea of eating often. Although it’s probably a bit of a dodgy estimate, according to my heart rate monitor I burnt over 5800 kcal on my last 100, and running low on energy ain’t fun. I’ve never had difficulty eating gels or energy drinks ( except perhaps Maxim) but I have had trouble trying to eat some normal foods on a ride because they seem too dry (pasties, pies, bread, rolls).

people who flash others out are often trying to be helpful, but are actually a pain in the arse for all concerned. The flashed driver ought to ignore the flashes (not least because he and probably no-one else other than the flasher knows for sure what they are supposed to mean )

I’ve ridden plenty of audaxes at all distances on un-mudguarded road bikes and not been moaned at.

The non-‘guarded riders on the Jack & Grace Cotton audax in January were a PITA. The roads were filthy and narrow, which meant that we would often have to drop back to avoid being jetted with slurry.

surely you can’t take a tow and then moan about getting a bit wet!

I just spoke to MoreThan – they confirmed (and I asked them to check several times) that they will not cover bikes as Specified Personal Possessions. With them, bikes can only be covered under their Bikes Insurance which does have a maximum value of £1500.

as you all know I am a big fan of 26″ wheels, but I would say a 29er would be easier to learn on (although probably not much)
