I havent checked the feeling of the headset. Seriosuly though I thought that first off and felt fine.
Someone was telling me today its because im using aftermarket rotors in formula brakes, but that struck me as odd.

Thought about contamination also but they were running fine when I put them on thursday for a ride (although lacking power as they wernt bedded in). I was thinking that somehow I have polished the rotors if that makes sense so need to sand them off?

I will defo be buying some quality tools very soon. I have had a good day changing a bb ( which was quite a daunting prospect) and followed up with an air can service on a fox shock.

    Forget that.

You northwind, were right. Not a great surprise to me but just wanted to let you know.

73mm so effectively 75.5. Burger! Not going my way!

Assuming the bb is currently 68mm that would make it 70.5mm.

Whatsit? Which bit is that? The actual bb shell or whatever its called?

I was so proud of myself as I was scared of the bb and now im disappointed at my lack of knowledge!

I did yeah, but would rather try and keep it all one if that makes sense.

How do you mean leeway in the cranks? My view was that I cant buy a set of cranks with a different axle length for a 73mm bb. So in theory I have 5mm before the cranks would be affected if that makes any sense at all?

Cheers, seems my bb is knackered as well. So still getting play.

What bike do you have op? Are there no spacers on the drive side on the bb? The xcx is good and may be what I have to go for as its seat post mount I think.

If you have spacers go for a bb mount you can get them for half the price

Stayhigh, it was the most descriptive description I could think of. At least I didnt include the colour!

    Red stubby nubbin!

Right just looked at mine again. Had a thought. As my bb is a gxp 68-73mm or whatever the measurement is could I not use the bb mounted chain guide.

I cant see a reason why I couldnt as I would be extending the bb whichis extendable and the crank axle remains the same whatever.

I wouldnt be affecting a chain line as there is only one ring at the front so no mech to worry about. Correct me if im wrong!

For northwinds benefit and anyone else who wants to see the stubby nubbin.

    ashleydwsmith

Northwind, unfortunately not, it is a gt 9r so the mech attaches to a little stubby nubbin. No icsg mounts either. Stupid stupid bicycle.

Seen that but £100 is a lot as well. I have just seen a dmr one that looks so simpe its got to work!

Mrp bling ring goes straight on done it tonight.

Only thing that I have had an issue with is play in the cranks but I think that is because I am to scared of torquing the cranks up to 45nm it just seems to be a lot!

I thought that about the mrp1x, £35 for the bb one but twice that for a plastic one!

    Mental.

    Any other recommendations?

    ashleydwsmith

Yeah think I might just go with the ring and guide

    ashleydwsmith

See your thinking there nikxl and also in a great place to go get the whole xx1 setup over time! May well do the same!

As looking at mrp ring and e13 im looking at £140 at least! Plus sundries!

Nikxl I take it thats just for the crankset?

Question now is if I put a bling ring on would I need to space it on the cranks. Also what e13 will fit my frame. Iscg5 iscg old? Its qukte confusing really!

    ashleydwsmith

Ooooooh ‘need’to change my rear mech now!

    ashleydwsmith

Nikxl how much was the chainset?

    ashleydwsmith

Hmm think its the way forward. Got a full suss 29er use it mainly for local trail riding and the occasional race ( well everyone else races and I just pay to ride my local trails.)

So what do I need to consider in terms of gxp bb and chain guide as I would like an lg1

    ashleydwsmith

Ok so concensus is do It. However what chainguide now? Using a sram s1400 crankset gxp so what is compatible with that. The lg1 looks great although pricey.

    ashleydwsmith

Forget that, found it. However what guide would work as im not paying £100 for the micro g2sl just cos they say so.

    ashleydwsmith

Would a 32t be ok? Cos im a bit of a sram man (except for brakes) and can get kit for 50quid with a guard!

Have you got a link for the mrp one so I choose the right one. I can be incredibly stupid sometimes!

Would I need to replace my sram s1400 crankset? Or just the ring?

    ashleydwsmith

Yeah but already found out the price for a service, as much as id love to pay that. Although might struggle finding a replacment.

Cy any chance of a free one? Given all the publicity?

I am amazed at the response this has got. I would like to tryone as I am looking into getting a bike for the commute, but is capable on trails as well. Seems it may be the way to go.

So what colour for a cotic soul?
