What a Birthday Present for me! (tis my Birthday tomorrow you know…)

Mine too (assuming you meant today). Happy birthday!

If you would loud hubs that are decent and good value then you’ll struggle to beat Hope ProII Evo. Great value in Hoops form with Stans rims and a satisfyingly loud click.

EDIT: That said, I was out walking the other day and a roadie on what looked to be a very high-end bike rode past. The rear hub noise was LUDICROUS. Like a ProII only much louder and with much more rapid clicks (no, this wasn’t just because he was going faster! :D ) Anyone any ideas what it might have been?

The new Shimano SLX/XT brakes have been pretty popular on here of late. There were some very cheap deals to be had at Rose Bikes, but not sure if that’s still the case. Certainly worth a look.

Very nice indeed. I haven’t ridden BMX since I was about eight and every time I see bikes like that I get a hankering!

And really don’t worry about being too old, not good enough, etc. So long as you enjoy riding it, that’s all that matters. Have fun!

Anyone else watch that thinking of a Rob Warner course preview ride? :D

    Whyte 146 s / x

Is that yours? How is it?

I’d love to have a try on one of those. Look like a lot of fun.

EDIT: just read the other thread – sounds like you’ve had a bit of a nightmare with it. Glad you got it all sorted in the end though. And it looks even better in black…

I’m cheating here with the dog.

Before I saw the logo, I thought that was a Knolly Endorphin. Linkage is different, but still looks pretty similar in that colour…

    Oh, and nice dog. :D

Assuming that isn’t just a photo of your road bike propped up in your garden this winter, that is a very good effort indeed. :D

How did you get a test ride in the UK?

I arranged a test ride through a guy called Finlay Patton. Not sure if he still works at Rose, but his email was fin (at) rosebikes (dot) co (dot) uk. Might be worth a try.

Granny’s Rings back into top 30, and I guess it’ll help now Cancellara has pulled out as I don’t have him, but it generally isn’t going well. Wiggins, Sagan and Greipel have done me proud, but every other rider I’ve picked has less than 200 points. Hoogerland on zero, Schleck an expensive mistake on just 187… Oh well. Next year!

Things getting close at the top between Rorschach and Hudson. Hudson doesn’t have Sagan though – could be decisive?

    Got mine this morning. Thanks!

Right, now to find somewhere suitably public to stick it…

Canyon and Rose prices are very good value for money. But there are pros and cons. I have looked at Strive and Uncle Jimbo. Impressive spec but no demo

You can test Rose bikes – or at least you used to be able to. I spoke to a very helpful guy at Rose UK called Finlay Paton who was going to sort me out with one for a few days, but I ended up buying a different bike before we got round to it. (A Transition, as it happens.) I can probably dig out his email, if anyone is interested.

Depends if you’re actually planning on using it on a track, in which case there are certain regs you have to adhere to…

I thought that might be one of those bikes where the longer you look at it, the more you like it. Only I’ve looked at it for quite a while now… :D

Still, if it works for you then who cares what anyone else thinks.

I’m leaving London for the entirety of the Olympics. Leave two days before the opening ceremony, come back two days after the closing ceremony. No thank you.

I honestly wish Paris had won. Let them deal with it. :D

Completely unfounded, but still bloody funny. :D

Wiggo to catch Cuddles as they near the home straight, then to pass him while no-handed endoing across the finish line.

My mate crashed on the boardwalk and immediately lost feeling in both legs and said his back felt funny. After 30 mins or so the first aid guys turned and told us they were going to carry him down on a stretcher!

Bandit is 130mm travel and designed for forks between 140-160mm. I find mine perfect at 150mm.

Covert is 150mm travel (new one is 160mm) and really wants a beefy 160mm fork – something like Fox 36s or a Lyrik. Wouldn’t be ideal with Revs, so OP would need new forks.

I’ve found my Bandit plenty tough enough anyway. Transition tend towards making their bikes tough rather than super light, so unless you really want more travel then I’m sure you’d be fine.

2011 models are very cheap on the transition US site even with delivery charges.

Just remember to factor in import duties.

Yep, I’ve got one. Very happy with it.

And perfect with 150mm forks too. Go for it. :D

And there was me keeping the colour scheme nice and plain so it wouldn’t look tarty

I guess that depends on how you define ‘tarty’ – it’s certainly understated, considering the build, and to Joe Public wouldn’t look too out of the ordinary. But to someone who likes their bikes… You’ve even got the valves/logos perfectly lined up. Definitely tarty. Very, very nice though. :D

need to change his name to something more dynamic otherwise it just doesn’t evoke an urge to own a “steve”

    Good point. Maybe just Potts?

    ashfanman

Although I thought it looked more understated than tarty

It may look understated, but a Potts frame, full XTR and Enve wheels…definitely tarty.

    What frame is that?

    Looks like a Kingdom Foia?

    Linky.

    ashfanman

Blur LTC is 140mm travel, Strive is 160mm. Assuming you wanted a lighter frame with less travel, then yes, you’re doing the right thing.

And you’ll be able to keep the old forks, as the LTC is warrantied for 160mm.

Union Jacks, a Mini and torrential rain in the middle of summer – all that image needs is some Morris dancers treading water in the middle of the high street river and it would be the perfect pictorial representation of this fair isle.

Should put it on a stamp.

I can see the argument for travel adjust on a longer travel bike, but I just don’t see the point of a 70mm travel option when a sorted 120mm frame will climb plenty well enough – particularly with Propedal. Why add the weight, complexity and faff of a proprietary shock that is harder to set up? I’d much rather have a lighter and cheaper frame with an RP23.

    Also, “over mountain”? Groan.
