Fun idea. Is there any way to create two teams with the same account, or do you need multiple sign-ins?
ashfanmanFree MemberMy friend – in preparation for a huge charity ride – did 37 continous laps of the park.
8O
And you “only” did 12? PATHETIC.
ashfanmanFree MemberI go everyday during the week, but avoid it at weekends – it’s ridiculously busy. (That, and because I have time to go somewhere else. :) )
ashfanmanFree MemberTop by just over 300 points.
Hesjedal ended up being a huge waste of money and I should have gone for Uran instead of Henao, but Santambrogio and Betancur did the business. (And Cavendish and Nibali, obviously.) 8)
ashfanmanFree MemberA-mazing. Must be pretty light, too, what with all those bubbles…
ashfanmanFree Memberis it a long distance or olympic ~? rules changed a couple years back to allow drafting.
Yeah, it’s Olympic distance. So I’m not allowed full-length extensions in case I try to draft someone and end up skewering them? Not that I’m planning on drafting some stranger, but surely the rider should be trusted to exercise judgment in not getting close enough to prod them with your aero bars, in the same way that you wouldn’t just randomly ride into someone’s back wheel?
Presumably it’s a draft legal tri, where I think the above rule applies and you can only use stubby extensions.
In that case I’m not sure there’s any point – I’m 6’5, so if I tried to use some of those stubby things I’d end up with the pads practically at my wrists! :(
ashfanmanFree MemberThanks all. That’s really helpful.
As you’ve discovered, finding under-bar mounts is tricky. The only ones I found were Pro-Lites or PZ racing ones, both available from CRC.
I just saw a review for some Ritchey ones on Road.cc, which also mount under the bar.
But to put a potential spanner in the works, I’ve just noticed this on the event site:
“Triathlon bars must not exceed the breaks on your handle bars. BTF referees will inspect your bike and can take your out of the race if rules are not adhered to.”
I assume they mean the extension poles can’t go past the brake hoods? I don’t even see how that would be possible – resting my arms out straight on the tops, with my elbows just behind the bar, my arms stretch WAY past the hoods. I’ll call them to confirm, but is this some standard rule for triathlons?
ashfanmanFree MemberThanks all.
Good advice about getting ones where the poles mount under the bars, but I can’t seem to find any under-bar ones with ski-bend poles that are even relatively cheap?
Even the Profile ones mount above the bars…
ashfanmanFree MemberSee if you get a loan to start with.
Don’t think that’s going to be an option, unfortunately. What I’m hoping my LBS will let me do is hook me up to a turbo in-store, fit the mounting brackets (or whatever they’re called) and then have a quick try with the different-shaped extension poles. (Having paid in advance, of course.)
I like 2 for clipping onto a road bike as they tend to be longer in the top tube so you need a shorter extension – but yout elbow pads are only allowed so far back.
Yeah, the top tube on my road bike is pretty long, so I suspect it will take some tinkering to get the proper fit with clip-ons.
the bars are longer so i can nearly get my elbow on the pad so i can support all weight on that part of my arm for as long as i want.
Ahh. I had assumed the pads were for your elbows to rest on – is that not the case?
Infact all three of those suck
Get some where the extensions mount under the handlebar, means you can dictate the height rather than being forced to live with them high
They were just for illustration purposes, but do happen to be the ones stocked in my LBS. Any other recommendations? Really not looking to spend too much, as I won’t be using them that often. (The Deda’s are £70-odd, I think.)
ashfanmanFree MemberNo, just ignoring those who discredit or twist others valid views or are rude because i suspect the motives behind are not genuine.
Pot. Kettle.
To be honest, you seem like you would be pretty hard work as a customer, but it’s entirely possible that you may have received what you consider to be genuinely bad service from Canyon. So, you came on here to see if others had experienced the same. Fair enough. But if you read through the past four pages with any degree of objectivity, it is clear that the overwhelming majority of Canyon customers have had very positive experiences – myself included. (And no, I don’t work for them or have any other vested interests.)
That obviously isn’t the response you were hoping for, but I’m afraid it’s the response you’ve got. If you don’t like Canyon, there’s a simple solution – don’t buy one.
EDIT:
Tell us pinkfish, what £5k+ bike were you looking at with Canyon?
The top-of-the-range Aeroad and Ultimate CF SLXs are over £5k. Just.
ashfanmanFree Membernot in my experience they’re not, canyon have been great to deal with.
Same here – I haven’t had to email them since the bike arrived, as I’ve not had cause to, but during the order process I found they replied within 24 hours without fail. Happy customer here.
ashfanmanFree MemberGood gear is designed so it’s long enough when you are on a bike, in a racing position. Trying it on stood up in front of a mirror is not the way to buy cycling stuff.
Did anyone say that’s what they were doing?
As for waterproofs if gore are anything like their longs they may have the length you need.
Spot on – that’s what I ended up with. I still had to go up one size to get the required length, but they still fit pretty well elsewhere.
ashfanmanFree MemberYou are not exactly slimline compared to some roadies so getting stuff to fit should be easy.
From my experience, it’s more the issue of getting something that is close fitting while still being long enough. I know you’re also tall, at 6’2, but being 6’5 does make it that bit more difficult. I had to try on about 10 different jerseys before I found one with a fit I was happy with. (And don’t get me started on waterproof trousers.)
ashfanmanFree MemberI got a Castelli Prima in large, which was the best overall fit and really nice quality. I also tried the Castelli Fuga, which was a bit tighter, so I needed an XL, but it was also a bit too short at the front. The Sportful was the Tour jersey, also in large. It was a very close call between that and the Prima – both very nice.
Other brands that I didn’t get on with at all: Gore, Endura, Altura, Mavic.
ashfanmanFree MemberI’m more or less exactly the same height and weight as you. I assume you’re talking about road jerseys, giving that you want it to be really close fitting? If so, have you tried Castelli? I bought one of their Prima jerseys and it fits perfectly. I tried one from Sportful, which was also pretty good.
ashfanmanFree MemberI’ve been in contact direct with Fixie Inc
I thought they went bust?
Replacement dropout here, but drive side only and from Sweden.
EDIT: Sorry, didn’t see you wanted the SS dropout.
Might be worth getting in touch with a shop like Tokyo Fixed[/url]? They might be able to suggest an alternative? Might even be able to get some machined?
ashfanmanFree MemberSpecialized BG Ridge.
Really comfortable (the top is a light, stretchy mesh that is great for the summer and there is gel padding on the palm) and well made. I’ve had mine for five years, during which time they’ve been through the wash countless times, and they’re still going strong.
Cheap too. Currently in the sale for £14.99 at Tredz, if you’re a small or medium.
ashfanmanFree MemberCannondale super 6 di2 £2400
If you happen to be a 54 or 56 (the only sizes Paul’s has left in stock), you’d probably struggle to do much better than that for the price…
ashfanmanFree MemberThe canyon Aeroad is certainly an option just a shame Udi2 is only on the lower spec models.
Canyon’s even-lighter Ultimate CF SLX has a Ultegra Di2-equipped model at £2,900:
Still has Ksyrium Elites, too. Barely 7kg. 8O
Link.
ashfanmanFree MemberYou could get a Canyon Aeroad CF 8.0 for £3,000:
11-speed Campag Chorus, Cosmic Carbone SLEs, 7.2kg.
Or just get the CF 8.0 (same frame but Ultegra and Ksyrium Elites, still only 7.25kg) for £2,200 and either pocket the rest or put it towards shoes, shorts, etc.
They have a test event tomorrow in Kingston Upon Thames, if you’re local…
ashfanmanFree MemberMy favourite Cav clip of all time: link.
Two things to look out for, other than the simply impossible burst of speed:
1) Sanchez’s “what the hell?!” reaction after Cav flies past him like he’s barely moving
2) The French commentary at 6:00, during an amazing overhead shot that really shows the difference in pace between Cav and everyone else: “C’est pas possible!”Awesome. :D
ashfanmanFree Member15th but henao, betancur and nibali are going to clean up in the hills for me…
I’ve got those three and also got the same points as you this week (you were actually joint 11th, not 15th).
Can’t really read too much from today, but I’m beginning to suspect that not having any Cannondale riders was a mistake. They looked very tidy.
ashfanmanFree MemberGot to feel a bit sorry for Cannondale – they were by far the best performers over the stage. Huge effort from Wurf in his 110km break and they were by far the most organised lead out.
Quick Step was a bit of a shambles, but Cav is just too damned fast. Does make me miss the HTC days though…
ashfanmanFree MemberAnybody know how to find out what that track is in that tt video?
Isle of Man TT.
ashfanmanFree MemberIm 6FT 4 and some bib shorts nearly cut me it two as the straps are so short
Which brands have you found tend to have longer straps?
ashfanmanFree MemberGo to a shop. Ask for advice. try some on.
That’s the plan for this weekend. Just thought I’d ask any potentially stupid questions anonymously. :D
I’m fairly close to your measurements and I’d say you should be okay.
What brand(s) have you found fit you best?
ashfanmanFree MemberCan also be used to carry a shopping bag
Please tell me you actually did pop down to the shops on a full carbon TT bike…
EDIT: Is that a crack in your seat post?
ashfanmanFree MemberJust posting this for those that ended up on this thread expecting something else
Those guys are insane.
3:47… 8O
ashfanmanFree MemberI’ve no doubt it’s fast, but looks a bit awkward to me. For true TT porn, English Cycles:
More pics here.
ashfanmanFree MemberAnd who is going to pay for all this? Surely if cyclists want a programme of expenditure specifically for cycling infrastructure then some kind of tax should be introduced, similar in practice to road tax for cars
I thought roads were taxed through council (and other) taxes, and that the taxes drivers pay for their cars were related to emissions (hence electric and other super fuel efficient cars not paying any tax)? That means that all cyclists are paying for the maintenance and development of the road network, whether we own a car or not (I don’t).
But then I might be totally wrong – I often am. :D
ashfanmanFree MemberTo be fair, Howies pricing did get a bit out of hand over the past 4-5 years, but I think that had something to do with them being bought by Timberland? They’re back on their own now and things seem to have improved as a result.
The new cycling stuff looks good (also tempted by the bibs) and certainly not overpriced. £49 for a jersey, £59 for bibs – way below the likes of Assos, Rapha, Castelli, etc, and strikes me as pretty reasonable, if the quality is as good as people are saying.
ashfanmanFree MemberDepending on how big you want to go, the Deuter Trans Alp is great. 30L of storage space, comfy and well made. (It can be used with a bladder, but doesn’t come with one.) I’m very happy with mine.
ashfanmanFree MemberVery sad. Saw Deftones in Brixton this Feb – while they were still amazing, it wasn’t quite the same without him. :(
